Sixers Grab Steven Hunter
RealGM - 08/11 - 6:31 PM EST
Philadelphia 76ers President Billy King announced today that the Sixers have agreed to terms with free agent center Steven Hunter. Hunter is expected to sign with Philadelphia on Friday, Aug. 12.

"We felt Steven was one of the top free-agent big men out there. He is an extremely important addition to our team," King said. "He is young, athletic and a natural shot-blocker. This move really strengthens our front court."

In four NBA seasons, the 23-year-old, 7-footer has averaged 3.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.10 blocks on 54.4 percent shooting from the field in 221 career games with two teams - Orlando (2001-04) and Phoenix (2004-05). Last season with the Suns, Hunter averaged 4.6 points and 3.0 rebounds in a career-high 76 games (3 starts) and appeared in all 15 playoff games off the bench, averaging 4.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.20 blocks per game.

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice move --so your PF has mobility issues limiting his defense? Resign Dalembert, trade away a non-dfending center, and add Sten Hunter to give you a nasty 48min of Dalembert and Hunter shotblocking to anchor the defense. Nicely done.

ACK!

Hunter was another player I was silently hoping Petrie just might make a move for...

Foiled again!!!

Wow, I didn't see that one coming. Those Sixers are sure breaking the bank. Dalembert and Hunter in the same lineup? Wow, that's some athleticism.

It hardly matters...AI will never let them see the ball anyway. They will be dominant in rebounding and shotblocking, though.

That's the beauty of what they are doing. Already have all your ballhandlin and shooting accounted for? Go sign guys who do OTHER things and excel off the ball. Hunter is a very good fit there. Play defense, clean up the garbage, don't worry about shots.

IF Webb's knee holds up, and IF the ball can be pried loose from A.I.'s hands at least 2 or 3 times a game, with a new coach, more experience together, some little moves here, Philly could be much improved. Have good balance and well defioned roles.

Yeah, I think CWebb starting isn't much of a question. The only problem I see is that the C position has NO scoring ability other than putbacks. Will be very interesting to see if putting two defensive bigs will be able to cover for Webbs defensive inabilities.

No offense to Webb, but I am not sure anything could cover for Webbs Defensive inabilities.

There are some moves Webber just can't make any more. It's not like he's out there with one leg and a prosthesis. He can and still will be an important part of the Sixers. If he stays at the level he was at in April 2005, at some point people are going to have to accept that he was dealt away because of the potential for future injury, not for how he was playing when he was dealt.

I agree with everything that you just said. I think offensivly he is a major weapon. I didn't mean to appear like I was bashing him because I like CWebb. I understand that it sounded that way though. I guess I was making a poor point that he cant play defense. Of course that is not his fault.

You're kidding, right?

I was just saying that "I hope he still starts," being a big C-Webb fan.. I know that he most likely won't, but I sure hope he does.

I don't know if any of you are still fans of Chris but I, for one, still am.. and I sure hope he still does well (same goes for Doug, Hedo, Scott, Vlade and others).

Sorry for rooting for our past kings players....

He most likely won't start? No offense whatsoever, but are you blooming nuts?

I am virtually speechless...

Just so you know, there are a LOT of Kings fans here who are still fans of Chris Webber. A LOT of them!

damn sixers.... i claimed hunter a while back then they raided this site and saw my idea....

My bad.. I guess I was at a misunderstanding.. I was at that assumption, since his minutes went down so much last year....I just didn't know....

You sure say "No offense" a lot to ppl VF, when in fact some ppl do get offended.. So, I guess I'm sorry for not being as NBA-informed like the rest of them...

Line-up will be:

AI/Iguodala/Korver/Webber/Dalembert

They'll have a decent bench. Philly have always been a fav to watch, especially after Iguodala, then Webber. But with a full season they'll be much better than last year.

I'd like to see us get Francisco Elson, unrestricted free-agent of Nuggets. They've only said they "plan/want to keep him". Same for Buckner, who I'd love to see come to Sac, and both would be pretty cheap.

Smart move to get Hunter.

As far as Webb goes, I'm thinking he'll play around 50 games next year.

That was O'Brien's thing and now he's gone, he should get back to full minutes.

wow that's just over half a season... not optimistic huh :(

i hope he plays at least 65 games. barring a serious setback in his injuries, i think he could play a bunch of games.
