SF 49ers: 2009-2010

The Bears just didn't want that one a little more than we did tonight... :p

Sheesh, how useless is our offense??? Well, it was nice to see Frank get >100 yards anyway...

Well, I'm certainly happy they grabbed some turnovers. :)

And Gore with 100 yards not all coming from one play is a good sign. Not a great sign, but it was nice.

I'm fine with the passing game, I'd really like to see more and better run production though.

Jay Cutler
Lovie Smith
Ron Turner
Offensive Line
"Wide Receivers" - I put qutation marks because they are not true WR, they are some sort of impostors from the planet Suckass that have come to wreak havoc on this team.

This is the order that should be stripped naked and throw into Lake Michigan. Coming from a die hard Bears fan, I can't watch this anymore. Congrats to the Niners, but trust me, you played pitiful. If this was any other team than the Bears, you would have been blown out. The sooner they get rid of Lovie and the cover 2, the better off we'll be.

Here I was all geeked up that I was actually gonna get to see a Niner game and I get to watch this rubbish. Don't get me wrong I'll take the win, but damn that might of been the ugliest game of professional football I've witnessed in a looooong time.
You clearly didn't see the Browns vs. Bills 6-3 barn-burner last month. Chicago is where quarterbacks go to die. Or in the case of Cutler, where primadonnas get multi-year contract extensions for playing just as poorly as they did in their previous location.

In the NFL, a win is a win. Sure, it was ugly. (And I mean uuuuuugly.) It doesn't matter though, as the Niners aren't looking to impress pollsters to get into the BCS. Just win, baby. I'll take it.

Jay Cutler could be an elite QB but he never will...he's way more reckless with the ball than any QB I've seen.

He'd rather try to squeeze a ball in reguardless of coverage than throw it away, he should of had another pick when he was being dragged down for a sack and he just throws it up...he got lucky there.

Cutler can't be an elite QB because he doesn't have the brains for it. It is a lot more fun watching him play for a team I don't have a rooting interest in one way or the other and be able to watch him objectively. But he continues to repeat the same mistakes he did in his first pro game 3 seasons later. He's a dope who apparently hasn't learned a thing.

Trust me, it is very painful to watch. He not only makes mistakes, but keeps repeating them. It has been brutal to watch. When Orton played, we at least knew what we were getting and could plan for it. With Cutler, you never know what he's going to do. The receivers are on pins and needles. The offensive line is not good, but it was good enough to give us a chance to win. Ron Turner is just lost... you have to know your personnel if you're going to be the OC. Reign in Cutler, run some slants and outs, run a 2 back system where the RBs have the ability to get in the flat, open up the field... something. Just terrible...

On the flip side, what happened to the Niners. The bears are in the last third of the teams when it comes to playing. The Niners though just seem to be lost. On numerous times on D, their CBs were pointing all over the place and jumping like jackrabbits, almost like the didn't know the play? Thank god for Willis and that D line. Vernon Davis needs to shut the hell up. Or start backing it up. This guy was supposed to be the second coming. Is he still injured?

Vernon is having a mega year. Just didn't back up his smack talk. Oh well a win is a win and we have a long rest before the next game. Let's start a streak here boys

Barring a miracle, this season is pretty much over. Guess you play Smith the rest of the season to see if there is any development with him (doubt it). The SF offense has been pretty terrible for a while. Hard to watch and I think a high school team could do as well.

They shouldn't be called the 49ers...they should change their name to the 3 and outs. :)

Oh well, still there's always next year's draft.

This is probably payback for having such a great run during the 80's.

If the coaching staff goes back to grind it out football next week they all need to be fired on the spot...

Alex can play in the spread. We have the weapons. EVERYBODY (announcers/analysts/fans) knows it works better.

I thought I would contribute as a drive by poster.. Smith can't read defenses. He has all the physical tools. He may never be able to read defenses and if so he will never be a good quarterback. So! Number one. The 49'ers need a quarterback. And a good one. They need a solid offensive line. Either do it through freeagency, or through the draft. Until you can protect the quarterback and create some holes for the running back your going nowhere. Its an old adidge, but the war is won in the trenches. Game in and game out the 49'ers lose that battle. Both on the offensive line and the defensive line. They have no pass rush to speak of. They have a pretty good linebacking core and a pretty good defensive backfield. But I don't care how good your defensive backfield is. If you give a good NFL quarterback enough time, he'll kill you.

Bottom line is that this is a team with a lot of holes. Hardly a championship team. An overaccheiving team maybe, but thats it. When I can sit and tell you every play our offense is going to run before they run it, then I pretty sure the other teams defense can too. They disquise nothing. Well if you don't make an effort to disquise what your about to do, you damm well better do it well.

I would love to see Shanahan enter the center. Keep Sing as the head coach but have Shanny running the offense all the way. Not that that's possible.. unless... you pay him enough? ;)

I'm happy with Mike Singletary and I'm even happy - at least at the moment - with the improvement I'm seeing in Alex Smith. In fact, overall I'm feeling pretty good right now about this team.

Niners!!!

Good chance to getting within one game of the cards after this week. We play up in a Seattle. Although a tough environment to play in, I still see the 9ers taking care of business. And the cards who are terrible at home have to play the Vikings. What a monday night that'll be if one game seperates the two teams with where if the 9ers win will give them the tie breaker in the division. Let's go 9ers and let's go Vikings!

Tied for lead league in TD's and is one of the better blocking tight ends in the league.

Is that backing it up?

I meant during the game - he sucked *** in it vs a Bears defense that is just pitiful - I had heard he was injured during the week which is why I asked that question. Plus, he has that 3 TD game which was an abarration - he does that again I'll eat my damn hat.

You might want to have a link handy to recipes on the Food Channel. :p

Vernon Davis really looked good yesterday; he and Smith are developing a rhythm that I won't go so far as to compare to 16-80 or anything like that but will say is a lot of fun to watch. Davis has suffered the past few years because our QBs were ... well ... let's just say ineffective. While I'm not saying he's going to become one of the best TE to ever play the game, I do think he's going to come more fully into his own as long as Smith continues to develop and improve.

I didn't think calling something an aberation was hating (especially a 3TD performance, which is somewhat rare anyway). No biggie.

Talk about beating ourselves... this team sure knows how to make some (un)-timely mistakes!

Ah well, if we can't be Seattle, we don't really deserve to be in the playoffs anyways. Now (barring comeback) I can root for the Cardinals tonight....

While the loss is disappointing, I continue to see reasons to be hopeful for the future. And I have to give Smith credit once again. Under Singletary's tutelage I think he's finally becoming the QB some of you were sure he could be.

There are some positive signs... if the Niners can just decide that Smith is the guy going forward maybe we can spend some money on a good pass rush and improve the secondary.

Secondary and pass rush aside... I'm still not sure why we got rid of Rossum. Our return game is anemic and too often we're struggling with extremely poor field position as a result...

The "little" things. Penalties at horrendous times (the kind that back us up to the end zone) and not taking care of the ball (two costly and unnecessary fumbles today) are things that can be cleaned up... I understand sometimes you just get outplayed, but I really hope we can figure out a way to overcome the goofy mental errors to finish out the season on a high note. Maybe this stuff will get better as the young team matures, but this one is squarely on the coaching staff to figure out. It's been a consistent "inconstency" all year long.

I feel like every year we're trying to find some positive spin to put on a bad season though so I'm not getting too excited. :)
