Sean Cunningham tweets on George Karl

Interesting take! I watched the interview twice and got a slightly different vibe from it - I think Karl was very deliberate with his answers, as if someone (Vlade) told him to be very careful about what he has to say, i.e. not throw any shade on the players etc. Notice how he dodged discussing his schemes and how players aren't buying into his way. I do NOT think he was necessarily lying though (except about who called the meeting), I think he's a guy that's very set in his ways that's being overruled behind the scenes right now and it's hurting his pride more than anything. My only concern from that interview was that he openly said that there'll be no change to his schemes, though he did give himself an out almost immediately saying that there'll be incremental changes.

As far as what Boogie wants - I'd venture a guess that he wants more focus on defense, slower post-oriented offense and more stable rotations (basically, what he had under Malone). Whether he and Karl can find middle ground - that all depends on Vlade. I absolutely think there is middle ground here, but it'll take both of them swallowing a bit of their respective egos.

Anyone that thinks Karl is going to change how he coaches is nuts. Your talking about a HOF coach. Plus, he doesn't need Vlade, or anyone else to tell him what to say. You can't let the inmates run the prison. The Kings hired Karl to coach the team. If you want him to coach like Malone, then you shouldn't have fired Malone. There's one common denominator on the team. Just about all the emotional outbursts on the team come from one person. Cousins! It has to stop. If your unhappy, then you go into the coaches office, sit down, and have a respectful discussion. I'm talking about respect. Cousins makes a big deal about respect and trust, but when if fits his emotional needs, that goes out the window.

Frankly, I'm sick and tired of this crap. It's time for Cousins to grow up and be a man. You have to learn from your mistakes. It's nice that he'apologized to everyone, but if you don't have the outburst, you don't have to apologize. He says he wants to be a leader, then he should act like one. I love Demarcus. I've defended his outbursts time and time again, but enough is enough. I'm not implying that we should trade him or anything like that. But if you want people to respect you as a person, then you have to give then respect as well. It's a two way street.

On whether Cousins received any disciplinary action for tirade Monday, Vlade told Y!: "Whatever I do, as far as I know, will stay in house."
-------------------------

Key words - STAY IN HOUSE. I personally think whoever leaked will be fired/traded. I have a guess based on past acts, but I'm going to leave it at that for now.

Obviously there's a rat in the house. Personally, I have no idea who it is. The only leftover from the last administration is Mike Bratz, and I think he's pretty loyal guy. Could be a player?

Don't be ridiculous. Rondo is a huge key to this thing eventually working, and benching him just finishes off any chance of recovering off the stumble.

A one year rental is key? come on now. Rondo will not be here next season IMO. He is playing for his last big pay day.

Bratz gains nothing from leaking this. George Karl would leak this. Hell, I think Napear would leak this. Maybe Bratz had a conversation with D'Allesandro.

A one year rental is key to this year, yes.

And besides the answer to whether its a one year rental depends on how well he does. We'll very likely be in a position to offer him more than anybody else is likely to unless he completely kicks ass. So if he completely kicks ass = he is key to this season. If he does not completely kick ass, we should be in the market to retina him.

Either way, he's a veteran PG with a ring and respect in the lockerroom, and it makes a ton of difference.

Here's one possibility.

The Karl/PDA element still exists. Cuz blows up, Karl remains calm, passes it on to PDA who then, being the king of leaking, told some random writer in NY who ended up breaking the news as Karl knows how to play the media game.

Then the counter, the apparent Cuz ultimatum, was Fegan and company responding thru the media.

Now Vlade's trying to hold everything together but in the end, it's going to be Cuz or Karl. Clock is ticking.

What would be cool is if this team played basketball.

Karl and DMC are both a couple of drama queens that clearly need to put their egos aside and just STFU. Both guys are equal in turning this team into the laughing stock it currently is.

Nevermind DMC's stats, forget Karl's W/L record, these guys have done nothing good for this franchise in quite a while and should be ashamed of themselves. So damn unprofessional. I'm sick of it.

I think the whole "emotional outbursts" line gets overplayed around here (understandable, given how the season has gone so far). When was the last time Cousins had to publicly apologize for something? By all accounts he gave it his best shot to fit into whatever Karl is doing (last season, training camp, preseason, regular season). Not a lot of games, sure - but it's not just Cuz that has a problem with the system (confirmed by multiple people), he's just the easy poster child for the dysfunction. So yeah - I'm not happy about his outburst, but I totally understand that it happened. It's easy for us to demand patience sitting on the couch (or a Mexican beach, as the case may be) but there's a lot more riding on it for the players and the stakes are higher for them (plus most are a lot younger and less mature).

I can also flip the script and say that Cuz is who he is - you can choose to antagonize him or you can try to channel his passion into something productive (we know it's possible). So who's going to be the adult in the room and dissolve the situation instead of playing chicken with a 280 lb bull? I'm not turning a blind eye to DMC's shortcomings but we're literally demanding him to persevere despite the franchise constantly crapping on him and are getting outraged that he's not gleefully asking for more. Vlade didn't hire Karl, and maybe should've fired him when he had the chance, but Karl refusing to change is as unproductive as expecting Cuz to play like Anthony Davis.

It's hard to hate Mark Cuban when he says stuff like this:

Ben Bolch ‏@latbbolch 37m37 minutes ago
Mark Cuban on misreporting about DeAndre Jordan: "You mean Chris Broussard? He's an idiot. I take that back. My sources say he's an idiot."

----------------------------------------------

And I know this really doesn't fit here, but it was too good not to share somewhere and since this thread was about sources, leaks, etc. I figured I'd put it here anyway. :)

Bravo! Well said.

Exactly. I think Rondo is the guy who will translate George/Boogie for Boogie/George, and probably the only one with both the drive and credibility to do it. We knew the storms would come...good things usually take time to develop.

It'll help that's for sure. I am hoping Karl will trust Rondo's court generalship. I also think Vlade is a big part of the picture; the pun is deliberate.

Its like, I want to blame the guy. But then I know he had throat cancer. So I can only imagine it is difficult for him to talk too much or loudly for long periods. In his interviews, he is constantly swallowing and very soft spoken. I'm sure his physical condition has something to do with it.

The chemo destroyed his salivary glands.

On Grant show today, Karl mentioned that he tried two or three times to get technicals this year, but the rest couldn't hear him.

I'm still mystified that Karl hasn't gotten a T by now during this streak - just to show the players he has their back. Even Gene Hackman knows that sometimes you gotta get thrown out of a game in order to further a bigger agenda.

I felt like Aileen was reading my mind with her article on Karl. Hope Karl proves that it isn't so.

He needs to go off on the Ref's when DMC gets hacked and the Ref's swallow the whistle.

I watched the interview. Karl is a guy who has seen everything and has learned from it. His record didn't come by luck. He was very thoughtful in his answers as some were questions that required some thought. I think he lied once when asked if he knew who called the meeting. He lied but I suspect he knew if he answered it truthfully, it would open a whole can of worms.

I don't think he's the kind of guy you throw on the trash heap. He can manage a team's players. If Boogie exploded and doesn't like Karl personally, I wonder what the hell he wants. He could learn a lot from Karl. Boogie NEEDS to learn a lot.

I like Boogie and now I like Karl. Please work some magic, Vlade.

Addendum: Given what I thought was a very truthful and thoughtful interview, I have no reason to believe he doesn't have energy. He says he is delegating so he might not have been fully truthful but I got the impression he has enough energy to do what he needs to do. Perhaps the best thing he could do now is run out on the court and have a poopoo fit when Boogie get's battered in the paint. I would.

His eyes gave it away, right?

I did read somewhere (maybe from Voisin?) that he doesn't have the full volume of his voice that he 0nce had. He could still, however, get in the official's face...and I suspect we may see him do so.

Karl has some assistants next to him. He likes to expound on his ability to delegate. He can delegate to one of those guys as his "Designated T Getter".

Ya I think his schemes are fine with the exception of Cousins not fitting so far. I thought the team was adapting to a faster pace and Cousins comes back the team looks slower.

Question, did you watch any of the games when Cousins was out? The Kings do not have the personnel to run with the GSW or OKC.
