Not signing Reke to an extension will be yet another in line of many failures of this franchise.

I agree, I really don't see what the point of not signing him would equal unless they're completely lost with using him. Do they think by chance if they don't sign him they can find someone better to use that money on when he walks away?
Evans
Hickson
Honeycutt/Whiteside
for
Wall
This could possibly pry Wall from them. I think we could give up a lot less for Rondo considering Boston is looking to trade him.
It's normal for young players to struggle. Think fans in Wisc or Oakland want to ship either out as much as fans here want to ship Reke out, even though he influences the game in many other ways than either, who both suck defensively btw?
I am not sure what you're asking/saying, but Warrior fans are open to Curry and Ellis being traded. The team is going nowhere with either. I doubt Bucks fans are scared to trade away Jennings if they can get something in return. Moving Bogut is probably a first priority for them though.
As for Wall, he's only in his second year and has absolutely crap all around him. The others are in their third year, have tasted the playoffs or had good players around them.
One thing that nobody seems to be mentioning is that just because Tyreke might not get an extension does not mean that he's gone. He'll still be a restricted free agent and we can match any offer we get for him. It's been apparent for a while now that we probably will be (and well ought to be) reserving our "franchise extension" (or whatever it's technically called) for Cousins. That means that extending Evans only guarantees that he gets a max contract, and while I'm an Evans supporter, I'll admit he has work to do. There's no sense in bidding against ourselves rather than putting that carrot out in front of him. Fix the jumper over the summer, clean up the game a bit, and earn a max contract, or don't and see what you can get on the free market - we'll decide whether to match.
I'm not sure that given the situation this is the wrong move.
One of the new rules has come to be known as the Derrick Rose Rule. It allows franchise-level players to receive a higher maximum salary starting in their fifth year in the league. These players now can receive the same maximum salary as a player with seven years in the league. In order to qualify, the player must meet specific eligibility requirements -- he must have been the Most Valuable Player at least once, been named to an All-NBA (first, second or third) team twice, or been voted in as an All-Star starter twice.
its wonderfully convenient to excuse wall of his team's poor play when tyreke detractors have refused to do the same when discussing tyreke. wall's play has been as disappointing in his second season as tyreke's play was in his own second season. and washington will likely be a loser in their third year together since drafting john wall, as well. i seriously doubt they're going to improve enough to own a winning record, even in the eastern conference. but i suppose wall will get a free pass then, too, because he's not tyreke, right? wall's court vision and his stunningly bad jump shooting (worse than tyreke's) equates to winning basketball, right? but tyreke's exceptional driving ability, above average rebounding, and excellent defense does not equate to winning basketball, right? it has nothing to do with the kings other players, right? it has nothing to do with their utterly empty SF position, their poor team defense, or their poor rebounding outside of demarcus cousins, right? nah, that couldn't be. points at the rim, defense, and rebounding aren't central to winning basketball. they never have been, have they? basketball history is rather illusory like that, i guess...
I think this is the right move. I like Tyreke, but I'm giving my 5 year contract to Cousins if I'm the Kings.
Well, if its an either, or, then I agree. Not sure it has to be, but this is definitely Cousins team, and that may be the rub for Tyreke.
As others have said, getting Wall isn't going to happen. Young as can be, upside through the roof, #1 pick. Trading him makes zero sense on any level for the Wizards.
I am curious who you guys think we have a realistic shot at landing either via a trade or free agency that can make a highly positive impact on this team.
HoopsWorld has a nice breakdown of FAs: http://www.hoopsworld.com/2013-nba-free-agents
I listened to a Podcast with Sam Amick on NBA trade deadline rumors. He doesn't think Tyreke is going anywhere in the short term. One player thats available, but comes with a big salary is Okafor, who is due 12.5 mil this year, 13.5 next season and 14.5 mil his last year. Amick reported that the Hornets are willing to throw in one of their lottery picks to any team willing to take on Okafor's contract. So the question is, how much, at age 30 does Okafor have left, and would he be an upgrade next to Cousins. It wasn't that long ago that folks around here wanted the Kings to trade for Okafor. Not endorsing the idea, just curious what everyone thinks.
With the addition of a lottery pick from Charlottte, I would do it. You put Okafor, a shotblocker, at PF next to Cousins to complement him. You then hopefully add another quality player in the draft. The real question is if the Maloofs will do it because it's a lot of salary on Okafor's contract.
Hickson and Whiteside for Okafor and the Hornets lotto pick would be a dream deal.
Heck we have plenty of SFs, just throw in some of them as well to match the salary.

Are Hornets looking to trade him for nothing purely for salary relief?
What they would take back and what the Kings seek to become are the issues. Okafer and Cousins frontcourt isn't exactly a running frontcourt. If you luck out in the lottery and get a 1-3, you're probably looking at a young big as well. If that happens, you have a logjam. Though a lot of bigs and a lot of PGs is where you want your logjams.
If the Hornets are willing to add a 1st round pick, I would do it. Even if Okafor has a big contract, we would get a defensive big who can guard PFs and block shots.
The point is, we saw that cap space is useless for this team. We are not going to sign big FAs, so this trade makes a lot of sense and if it's on the table we should do it.
