Salmons to Phoenix

Emma

Starter
I would like to see John to phoenix for their exception and ATL's pick.

Any takers?
does this work out?

I've never been a fan of his, but I hardly ever get to watch any Kings games in Canada.
Having said that, i'm all for it! And it makes sense for both teams if Petrie is working on an extension for Artest.
Maybe Salmons + Lue for TPE + ATL 1st + PHO 2nd '09 ?

No point. Clearing Salmons for the exception does not create any meaningful cap room, and whomever we pick in that spot is probably not going to be as good as him. Salmons is a good deal on his salary, still young, and if we're going to trade him the deal will be better than this.

I was making a mention of that in my grades -- if for some reason we do not keep Ron, then really the guy we should be moving is Salmons. He is no good off the bench, and has been passed up there by Cisco. Either Ron or John should go. I have presumed it would be Ron. But if not, there is no point in having Salmons waste away on the bench when he only truly excels as a starter.

Salmons has a contract that runs forever. If he's not going to be used as a cheap 18ppg starter, and is going to be pinned forever behind Kevin and Ron, then cleaingin that salary and getting back a solid pick (might even end up higher than our own) would be a solid move.

Even if we do trade Ron, this would be worth considering, especially if we get another SF back (Kleiza). I like Salmons as the cheap SF starter, but imagine having:

SG: Martin, Douby
SF: Garcia, Kleiza
PF: Williams
C: Hawes

along with our 1st (lotto), the ATL 1st (mid), possibly the DEN 1st (late) and a couple 2nds to do some damage in the draft.

Only thing is that if Salmons quit pouting and was going to giv you a real effort as an 18ppg starter for a $4-$5million contract, that's damn good value and frees you to use your dollars elsewhere.

But otherwise I would kind of agree. We could very well only make 1 move this season, but making 4 and dumping Mike, Brad, Ron and Salmons for enders and picks to Atlanta, Orlando, Suns and Denver would completely rebuild the franchise (crappy PF garbage contracts aside) overnight.

i think us ever trading Sexy Salmons has everything to do with if we trade Ron, and if we do, what we get in return...if we do the Kleiza deal, I could definitely see us trading Salmons, if we dont do the Denver deal and trade for just expirings and picks, then I think we'll keep him, obviously.

Of course we'd do it. Problem is, Phoenix wouldn't. They won't even do it for Ron. I know they have a history of trading picks, but they won't be trading Atls pick unless it's a monster deal.

They have always liked Salmons, so you never know. Nobody will give us anything for Ron because he is an NBA leper. Salmons...well, let them figure out for themselves that he only plays hard when he gets things his way.

The one thing would be that it was the former regime that really liked Salons -- wanted to sign him in fact. But now this is Steve Kerr, and with the Shaq move he has already shown that he may be more of a conventional power game wins titles thinker rather than a fan of skinny guys who like to run.

Another reason they might do it is...look at Raja Bell. I hate to say he's regressed this season but it sure seems like it, because his numbers are inching ever closer to Bruce Bowen as he's down 2 ppg from last year, down 5% on three point shooting percentage, and that combined with his always poor rebounding, passing, and stealing ability, and I think the Suns might answer the call for another OG. Not to mention the fact that Shaq's vicious elbow knocked out Raja last night, after another 0 pt 1 reb effort in 36 minutes for him. They've been giving their kid Strawberry some playing time, but something tells me that the Suns would prefer to have another OG, and Salmons fits the bill. Whether they'd sack their trade exception and a first round pick for him, I don't know. But it's certainly plausible given their situation. Gives them another scoring, defensive minded all around guard who can run and gun, and gives us further financial relief.

I agree about Salmons, I dont see him as a future part of our team. He is good for short-term but long term franchise not so much. If we can get Atlanta's pick from the Suns that would be very nice.

If Ron is in the Teams future plans () then yeah, I’d trade him for the Suns exception and ATL's pick. After thinking about it for a while, I keep on coming back to the same conclusion. John would be a great bench player. I don’t see him as a starter. If he can take the mentality of “starting” and transfer it into him coming off the bench and being really productive, then he’d be great for this team. But unfortunately for both him and us, he just can’t mentally change that attitude. So yeah, trade him and get a pick, better yet, get a young player that can play and I’m sure everyone knows who I’m thinking of. lol Even if it’s not the guy I’m thinking of, we should try to find someone that’s young and has a lot of potential.

The trade deadline was 11 1/2 hours ago. Salmons isn't going to be traded.

I know the deadline passes. I was talking about the off-season trades, sorry that I didn't make that clear. Hopefully we'll be productive this summer.

If Ron does sign long term Salmons has no place on this team unless he learns to play well off the bench.

I have to wonder, though, if Salmons can be productive off the bench until the Artest situation is resolved. We know what he's capable of. Cisco has found a way to contribute in big ways and we really need Salmons to do the same.

Ah, okay. Then I'm pretty much in agreement with you, too. But we're still stuck wondering - at least until June 30 - what Artest is going to do. And I wonder how that will play out on Draft Day.

From the looks of it, I think Ron will decide to stay.

I'd like to see the look on John's face once he realizes that he's still probably coming from the bench next year. I wonder if he's still going to sulk on the bench or actually come to play.
