As for Garcia, I don't know a lot about the kid...he is who I thought we'd pick up at the 23rd slot...I like the pick and I think that he will fit in well with our current team...I'm excited to see the kid play more
A quote from draftexpress that I found interesting about Garcia:
Very coachable. A team player. Not afraid to take big shots. Huge heart, that can't be stressed enough. Just a very unique player in terms of his versatility. \
I really like how they say that he is very versatile...it's gonna be an interesting summer![]()

Exactly^. He is just what Geoff picks always anyways... emphasis on High B-ball IQ, can play several positions, good shooter, what else would you expect? For such a mysterious guy Geoff is really becoming predictable... he's probably hoping with his length he can become a better defender(never seems to happen on this team). If they can resign Mo, I'd expect him to start at the 2, with a lot of minutes going to Bobby as well, and Kevin and this guy fighting it out for scraps. If we can't keep Mo and a suitable replacement can't be found it's wide open at the 2, although I can't fight this nagging feeling that if Adelman does stay he'd start B-Jax over Kevin or this guy given his philosophy...Bricklayer said:Latin Assasin = remember the Alaskan Assasin?
I expect us to just let Martin and Garcia battle it out for the OG spot now. Go young and see what happens. One or the other should emerge as an ok starter maybe. A starter for a contender? Not this year.
Its one way to go. No tremendous confidence in either guy, but you just pile up young guys and see who pulls it off and go worry about other positions.

Venom, it looks like you know about him a lot. Can he create his own shot?Venom said:True, but Martin is a sunk cost and does not have it mentally. The guy did not make the playoff roster. That's not good, no matter how you spin it. Garcia is a tough kid, a competitor, bigger, and better. Simple as that.
ONEZERO said:23 years old? i think its good hes 23 cause we dont have to wait for him to mature. we aint the bobcats where were waiting 3-4 years to compete. the kings still have potential and they need someone who can produce right away.
ONEZERO said:brick, why all the hate on garcia? he plays offence and defence and he plays them both hard. what more can u ask for? i dont know who u wanted us to pick at 23.
Bricklayer said:He's not much of an athlete, and disappeared against the best college teams. In general agaisnt any team with a defender to get inside his shirt. Very much like Peja and the rest of our guys. Can't play unless you run all sorts of picks for him.
He was beat out by veteran players; house, jackson, bibby, cuttino, etcVenom said:Martin did not make the playoff roster. That's not good, no matter how you spin it.

Let's try why all the love?
But here, let's put it this way, much like picking up all of that crap over at PF, this is a move that depends on what else we do for justification. If we make changes so that Garcia becomes a valuable entity, then fine. The idea of turning the OG spot over to skinny kids (actually not really kids -- one problem, they aren't going to get as much better as 20 yr olds would) is ok, but you damn well better do something with the rest of the roster. Garcia fits our offense, and more, in that he's smart but lacks the ability to create his own shot. The great nightmare scenario is that we become the true Princeton of the NBA -- a bunch of middling to poor athletes who can shoot and need five picks to free themselves up. There is not title there, today, tommorow, next year or 5 years from now. Garia's problem is not Garcia himself, its that he looks too much like everybody else we have. We are rapidly becoming one trick ponies.
That said, he has a chance to be solid for us. That's the good.

burekijogurt said:What is wrong with running picks to score? A team can get a high percentage shot in different ways. If you have Shaq, you post him down low and throw him the ball. If you have a great shooter you set picks for him. As long as the team can execute to get that high percentage shoot you are ok. A guy who can 'create for himself' is necessary only if your team cannot execute or you are left with one player becase everyone fouled out. Shaq was of no use to the Lakers against the Pistons becasue the team (Kobe) could not/would not execute the necessary offense to get a high percentage shot. This whole shabang about getting a guy who can win the championship by his sheer will and superhuman athleticism is misguided. We need to build a team, such as Pistons or Spurs (even though they have a Duncan they won because all their players are good and they execute). We will not get Jordan. Waiting for one is not the way to go.

I Agree, he knows what to do with the ball, very good all around player, you want him to attack the rim, he will, you need to spread out the floor, he will, and your right he will be our starting 2....Venom said:Definitely. He's no Lebron or Kobe, but I have no idea where all the animosity is coming from. Good handle (he'll need to work on it), and a quick first step. The Louisville offense flowed through him. When the shot clock was winding down the ball was in his hands to create something. Garcia is our starting 2, Evans or not. And he is much better than Martin, right now. Cat is gone, as he should be.
