Sacramento selects Francisco Garcia

That bio was from from the media guide from this past season. As for his defense, Garcia is not a shut down defender, but he was solid from day one. He was consistantly in passing lanes and blocking shots. I cannot count how many times he would catch up to a player on a breakaway and block his shot from behind using his length (to borrow an overused Jay Bilas term). I for one will be tuning into a lot of Kings games next year and think you got a real gem.

Brick, one question.. How do you know so much about this guy? You watch a lot of Louisville games? I catch a lot of College BBall, and have never seen this guy actually play. (probally have, but was not watching him as a future member of the Kings).

I personally like this pick, and think we are not going to get a great defender from the draft, and if we did, he would not be a good offensive player. FA market or via trade is where we can improve defensively.
Nope. I, like most people on here am basing my assessments on perhaps half a dozen total times I've watched him + all of the predraft chatter. Nothing more. No doubt the assessment is also tainted after watching him get completely annihilated and shut down as Louisville was eliminated from the tournament by Illinois. Think he had something like 4 pts. Also caught him earlier in the year against Cincy when he was also just locked up and had no answers (although he did make a nice pass to win the game). But even from that, you could see the Kings drafting him a mile away.

In any case, he's here now, so we'll see. He has the bball IQ we like and has a chance here. I would have had bigger doubts anyplace else where they asked him to produce on his own. And in case I have not been clear, the problem is not so much Garcia, it is us.

I don't think people here realize how much of a steal we got, this guy could've scored over 20 a game in college if he wanted, but he trys to make everyone around him better, he was pretty much the point in Louisville, now that hes gonna have Bib, Miller and the whole Kings system setting him up this is going to be dangerous to see, because he is a pure shooter reminds me alot of Reggie, there is no other player that I could be happier with from this draft.. Geoff Petrie IS GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was hoping to see the re-tooling of the Sacramento Kings start tonight. I guess I shouldn't expect much, but I was hoping for some trades or some sign of movement towards filling needs. I feel like all that's been done tonight add another all-in-one screwdriver to to an already full screwdriver drawer.
I wanted a fricking hammer to pound some nails!!!

Tis' a long offseason, you know Petrie, you must be patient! Things will happen and they will happen in a quick and swift manner. When it happens I don't know

No. But, it could mean the end of Mo Evans as a King.
I dont think its either, actually...Mo works as a great guy off the bench, and I dont think he's ready to start, anyways. Oh, and Peja is our SF, Garcia is SG. This works out fine. I dont think, of course, that Petrie is done dealing or signing...the next month or two will be very VERY entertaining, I think, as far as transactions go.

If Garcia got game, RA will play him.
If he is not ready he will sit.
If there are vets who are better then him in front then RA will sit him as well.

I don't know why such an excitment considering that we all know that RA will not play him much
May not have a choice if he's given no options. The incumbent is gone. The only two guys right now are Kevin or Garcia. Besides which our "kids" aren't really kids. Both guys are 23 now, same age as Bibby when we acquired him. Of course Mo is something like 25 or 26. Might not develop much, but just about as ready as they'll be.

Um...well, considering who else we have at the SG position right now...and I dont think he will put Mo Evans in there as our starter, RA WILL start this kid, especially when he sees him in camp, I think this is a totally different situation than last year or in past years with young players, such as Kevin Martin, this guy is stone cold, and should fit right in, as we have been saying all along in this thread. Not sure what GP has in store though, as far as signings at this position, but I dont see anything stopping Garcia from starting right off the bat.

Now that we have a shooting guard we can worry about power foward the whole offseason, we need to try to resign Darius, and maybe trade Thomas and Corliss to someone or something I don't know GP will make it happen though...

QUESTION:

Would you rather have Cuttino (if he were not a FA) or Francisco be your starting SG?
Those aren't two good options, give me a third and i'll answer.

I think Garcia could be a stud. Dont understand the bad run this site is giving him.

I agree! I especially liked Dick Vitales analysis of him. Said he is a "gem" with lots of heart and he's coming from a solid program. I think we were lucky to get him at 23. With so many "ego" tripping athletes running around I like picking up someone who is eager and coachable and wants to be a part of the Kings. I hope Kings fans give this guy a chance to see what he can do. Lots of people said Steve Nash would never make it either, and it sounds like Garcia has a lot of the same positive mental attitudes that Nash has and we all know what Nash has been able to accomplish.

This site and 22 other GMs who passed over him.
Well Toronto too Charlie V and the Bobcats took Sean May. I don't think this draft involved a whole lot of brain power. Maybe b/c some of the GMs in this draft were so dumb we really did get a steal.
