Sacramento selects Francisco Garcia

Garcia is an interesting pick. It seems pretty certain we'll have a young guard rotation... probably no Anothy Peeler pickups in our near future.

From what I'm hearing it seems Garcia may be more NBA-ready than Martin, which doesn't bode well for Kevin considering he's already had a year to develop (granted, without much playing time). I have to assume the Kings want to keep Evans, because they'd be fools not to. If that's the case Martin goes down to third-stringer who's once again relegated to garbage time, and it's a training camp battle between Evans and Garcia for the starting spot.

This also makes it pretty clear (I hope) that Petrie plans to use one or two of those "trade pieces" from the Webber deal to land a legit PF. Martin may be expendable as well. With his low salary and still untapped potential, he could be an attractive addition to our Elton Brand package. :D

I like the idea of these three (MO-hopefully, Martin & Garcia) battling it out for a spot as a starter. When has THAT happened recently on Kings? A little competition between teammates might be just what the doctor ordered to change the tone a little in training camp, could prove to be very productive.

Adelman said this tonight in his interview: (paraphrased) "Martin has to play this summer as if he is the starting 2 guard, think of himself as the starter". I was glad to hear Adelman pumpuing up Martin, though Martin seems to need a good deal of pumping up. Maybe his confidence will increase with another training camp. Also, with Martin's pretty cheap ticket why would Kings want to throw him into a trade mix? I'm just wondering if other teams are aware of Martin's talents and would even look at him in a package.

How do you chant his name in Arco?

Pe-Ja
Bib-by
Jack-son
Mil-ler
Web-ber (old)
Mar-tin
Ev-ans

Now Tags is tricky and you dont usually hear "Os-ter-tag" but if you do there arent many saying it. People need a two syllable name to yell out unless its a 3 letter word like MVP. So, I say we chant MVP instead of Gar-ci-a every time he touches the ball and it will inspire him to have an MVP type performance every time he hears it (home games).

Hey, Its Wednesday night and Im bored and is there anyone out there that thinks my idea is incredible or is there anyone that has another?

Now if we are speaking strickly nicknames then im sure people will come up with some fast. Rook's usually get one. (K-Mart, Special K, etc)
He's got a Nickname "The Latin Assassin"

And in the second Year Portland brought in Danny Ainge - a exceptional defender  .

Drexler might have been better player but Porter was not. Would be nice if RA could just say what was going on in practices during those 2 years. Drazen was killing them in scrimmage. When he went to Nets he did not need to adjust. He just needed a chance to PLAY.
Um, Porter was a PG. And Ainge was a combo 1/2. Must have missed Drazen's ability to take over at the point and get minutes that way. You're a pure two, you arrive in town to a team with a HOF shooting guard in his prime ahead of you on a championship contender, what exactly are you expecting? Wrong team, no minutes to be had.

Drazen played pg as 16 year old in Yugoslavia league (the best eu league at the time). He also played pg occassionally later. OTOH he was poor defender, nba pgs would kill him, but Adelman starts such point guard on the current team, so...

and Terry Porter was a borderline All Star the years he played PG for those Portland teams. The comparison is inacurate anyways because European leagues were not nearly as competitive as they are now, and the jump from playing pg at 16 for a yugoslavian team to playing PG over a damned good PG on a Championship caliber team is rediculous.

Well this was one of the more exciting draft days in awhile, with our team in transition and all. I liked Garcia, and mentioneded it here before, but I was still dissapointed with the pick. I should've known it was going to be Garcia when KHTK was talking him up so much. I think it was Monty who was raving about him. Sounded like they were selling it. Probably came down to Garcia and Simien.

As been said by what seems like the minority, I'm dissapointed because the pick doesn't bring anything new. I was hoping to take a gamble on a a big (Taft). If anything, hopefully Petrie and company will look more at the FA bigs and try to bring some size into town.
