Rudy Gay expresses his frustration

The fact that Rudy has NOT been traded yet should tell Rudy that thus far the team values him MORE than any other team that is making offers. It tells fans that Vlade is smart enough not to let others pressure him into a trade. He will get full value or wait until he can.

Nice article by James Ham:

Quote from Vlade: “Look, I was a player, 16-17 years in the league, nobody called me everyday and tell me what management is doing,” Divac said. “Management was doing their job. If something big happened, they called and told me. Obviously, nothing big happened (so) I’m not going to call anybody.”

By the way Vlade also said: "He has my number."

I think Vlade is being ignorant. In my analysis, Rudy is feeling disrespected. Yes, I realize he may not have earned Vlade's respect but if Vlade wants to keep peace on this team, especially if Rudy is part of our future, he needs to pick up the phone. This isn't a game of chicken we are playing. I don't want dissension on this team because two people are being tight assed.

Article also said "The Kings GM has spoken with his small forward on this subject in the past and has nothing new to report."

So Gay did get the possible trade news from "the horses mouth"

Hmmmmmmmmm

I need to keep closer attention to these issues. Nah, it's not worth it. The world is more interesting.

I can't speak for White_Chocolate but I agree with him. Getting back a 1 year rental of Rudy and Smart is terrible value for Griffin.

I don't believe Rudy is a piece teams give up a lot for. He's definitely not a number one or two option on a good team, I don't even think he's a really good third option. IMO Rudy is a 6th man type on a good playoff team. What are teams really going to give up for that? If he had a ton of value he would have already been traded.

Could Vlade's response get any worse? Essentially he's saying "If we trade him, I'll call him. Otherwise, there's no reason to talk to him." Then saying that he has his number? Man this is just brutal. I thought the regime change was going to be different, but it certainly doesn't seem that way.

And teams will wait until that becomes an issue on the court, and Vlade is put in a situation where he has to trade Rudy or bench him. The guy doesn't want to be here (rightfully so). Management doesn't want him here. So find a decent value, if there is any, and ship him out.

That's one way to look at it. Another way is that in the article the author claimed a "cat and mouse" game with Vlade, where it had to be told to Vlade what Gay said. I'm sure that site (where the quotes where) is on the top of Vlade's reading list (sarcasm intended). I'm sure being confronted with Gay's comments sat well with Vlade. Gay was blunt and so was Vlade. Vlade was here when Petrie operated with the rule, 'your a King until your not a King' and until Gay's contract runs out or he is traded he should act like a King.

I could think of many ways his response could be worse. Rudy said he wants stability where there is none and it's pretty obvious what is going on... If it's pretty obvious what is going on what does he expect to be said on a phone call? "Hey Rudy, we are trying to trade you but no one wants to give us anything we need. Your value is pretty low." Ya, I am sure that would go over even better. If what everyone thinks is true (including Rudy) and Rudy is on the move I prefer Vlade doesn't waste precious work hours coddling him. If he thinks he is going to be around next season I would expect some contact if Vlade thought that's what Rudy wanted. Why would he think that though? Rudy just self proclaimed himself as being disinterested during the season and now during his summer break he want's to be locked in? Give me a break.

Why on earth would the Clips do that? Griffin is a top 10 player in the league. Rudy Gay is top 50 maaaaybe who is on his decline. Smart is a nice player, but projects to be an all star at best. The Clips are in win now or bust mode and that trade does nothing to help that movement. I can see why both the Celtics and the Kings like it, but the Clippers would be nuts to even entertain it.

I don't see anything wrong with what Vlade said. What's he supposed to do? Treat Gay like a baby and cuddle him, tell him that it's going to be ok? Gay needs to man up. If there was something that you should have known or needed to know, you would have known. This shouldn't be that big of a deal.

That being said, I understand where Rudy is coming from. He signed up for something that was broken apart months afterwards and has been a steaming pile of crap ever since. No direction and no leadership has led us to this. Rudy is a good pro and he doesn't want to put up with nonsense. However, being upset with Vlade for not calling you consistently is ridiculous.

So Rudy wants consistency?

Since Malone was fired and wasn't coming back, that would mean we would have kept George Karl as our coach.

Come on Rudy, get with the program or get out. The new theme is pretty loud and clear to me, it's defense first and everything is second.

It's pretty obvious from the moves vlade and Joerger are making, that defense is the top priority.

That just might buy Rudy a one way ticket out of town pretty soon.

Vlade wasn't just responding to Rudy's comments. He was sending a message to all the players that we have a hierarchy and the players have their job to do, the coaches have their job to do, and management has theirs. There will be no coddling. Thank you, Vlade.

Kings are not going to get full value in return for Rudy IMO. At this point, if you can't get anything of worth of even 50%, the very least he is is an expiring...at that point, teams will come and be more enticed to trade for him to open up more cap space for free agency.

Look I am not sure why people are reacting to Vlade's comments in this way. Going back to Joerger's press conference Vlade made it clear that you are either in, or you are out. It seems to me that Gay has been out since last season regardless of what we do.

We are not going to get anywhere near the value for him. It's almost a case of trying to trade him for another role player, or a raft pick or an expiring deal that we might convince to stay long term.

That is bound to happen when it's only your second year as GM. You learn as you go I suppose.

So what is Blake's value in your opinion? Ainge has plenty of assets:)

While he certainly was anything but tactful, I'm on team Vlade on this one.

Rudy just threw the FO under the bus, because he's not...... what? On the inner circle? Egoism at its finest, especially if Vlade was already forthcoming enough to let him know they're looking to trade him.

And then those other quotes about how he basically didn't give a **** last season? I get it, Karl sucked, but Rudy was just as sucktastic.

Dude is passive aggressive AF. We don't need these kinda personalities in the locker room. Cuz is enough of a handful, but at least he brings it on the court.

Rudy might be getting frustrated he isn't getting calls from Vlade before moves are made but I can see it is more of not understanding the decisions being made. If I was DeMarcus Cousins and Vlade went out and drafted a center at 13 then signed Tolliver and Garrett Temple I would be puzzled as well. Especially the constant losing ride DeMarcus has been on. Same with Rudy. I don't think NBA players always see it from a rational angle, they just want to win now and feel like it is the Gm and Coaches job to make it happen

You do realize that that is probably exactly what Pat Riley would have said, right? Except he probably would have slipped in the word maggot a few times.

I respectfully disagree. Vlade has a job to do, and calling every player on the team to keep them abreast of the daily progress of the team isn't part of it. There hasn't been a peep out of Vlade or anyone in the organization about Rudy being on the market. It's all come from the media. Yet, he has to answer time and time again to these rumors. When Petrie was GM, no one ever heard anything about a trade until it happened. I suspect that Vlade is trying to follow suit. I'm sure if he has a deal done, he'll get on the phone and call Gay, or whomever is part of the deal. Until then, what is he supposed to say. Is he supposed to call up Gay every week and say hey Rudy, I'm not trading you this week.

Vlade isn't responsible for the media or players agents or other teams. If he was he'd be on the phone constantly putting fires out, and I'm sure he has better things to do. As Vlade said, Gay has his phone number if he has any questions. If he's sitting around worried, then he should call Vlade. To be honest, this is highsch0ol stuff. If an adult has a problem, he goes and confronts the problem. That's what I would do.

Comparing Pat Riley to Vlade is like comparing Phil Jackson to Keith Smart. Riley CAN do that and get away with it

Are you are equating Keith Smart to Vlade Divac??? You better hope VF21 does not see what you wrote.

By the way Wade moving on to Chicago has disrupted Riles Mojo. I only hope it is disrupted enough to want to move Dragic for Rudy Gay.

I read the first paragraph and quickly understood you had your own agenda. I never said Vlade should call everybody to keep them up to date on a daily basis, did I? That would be silly. Where did you get that from anything I have written? You mat go back a decade if you wish. On the other hand, if you gave a valued player who seems disgruntled, a phone call to help settle the problem takes very effort. It very well may be this is not Vlade's style. It also may be that he has no respect for Rudy's roll on the team.

Keith Smart has never built a winning team just like Vlade hasn't..Riley has an NBA championship just running the show not to mention the ones coaching
