Roy Hibbert

He's less athletic than haywood, but longer. Good footwork and solid post moves (not great), but he's slow and mechanical. The thing is with Hibbert is he doesn't fit an up tempo offense, so does that mean we decide not to go in that direction because of him? Since we aren't likely to get a franchise changer this draft perhaps we should pick towards what kind of system we want to run.

11 board and 6 blocks(and 4 assists) in his last game against NC aint to shabby. If we can get a draft pick who can at least fill up the paint, block shots and rebound I would be ecstatic. Brad plays his best when he doesn't have to play a "traditional" center and since we won't be able to move him we may as well make due. His best year was when he played PF and Vlade was the center.

We talking about the same guy? He hasn't been THAT bad...

For whatever it is worth Gary, do not feel alone on this one. I really like Fazekas as well. Yeah, he will get pushed around and owned by bigger guys in the paint, but I think that he will also draw bigger guys away from the basket and own them on the perimeter.

I do not really hold my breath, because the odds of him being a King a low. However, if he did become a King I think he would be very fun to watch develop as a player each night.

I think we already have a player like that and he is going to cost us 35 million over the next 3 years after this one. If we had a second round pick sure but I'll pass.

However, he is exactly the type of "skilled" big man that Petrie loves so I wouldn't be surprised if he wastes our first round pick on him.

The best team in the league is anchored inside by not one, but two 7'1" slow as molasses players. Size matters in basketball. Height in particular. It always has and always will be a factor in a game where you score through a hoop set 10' off the floor.

Best team in the league? Not Dallas. Not Phoenix. Not San Antonio. Not Miami. Who are you talking about? This guy is sloooooooooooooooooow. There's no team in the NBA that is good that has a starting center this sloooooooooow in my opinion. I'm not talking about end-to-end court speed. I'm talking about quickness, changing direction. This guy looks helpless in that regard.

Who "they"? Most scouts think he's worth late first rounder. Don't confuse high skill level with high BBall IQ. Nick has quite a few red flags. Scouts' perception is
a) You can just walk over him attacking in the post.
b) When you are physical with him his offense can easily be disrupted.
And every year going against big men with some NBA aspirations he did very little to prove scouts wrong. Still he's BY FAR most efficient very versatile first option in the country so he deserves late first.

BTW Hibbert didn't play much bball in HS and still is very comfortable in the post right now which is very rare. he definitely can shed 10-15 pounds with conditioning and diet which will seriously improve him.

I agree with "most scouts". Not worth a top-10 pick.

I don't think Hibbert is nearly as slow as you're making him out to be. And Dallas is ANCHORED by Diop/Dampier. SA has Duncan. Miami has Shaq/Zo. They all have shotblockers.

Hibbert aint slow. He's not the first one down the court, but he's not slow.

Exactly. He doesn't have a smooth gait so people tend to think he's slow. He's pretty nimble in the post, too.

it's an optical illusion? neat. :)

whenever i see him run his flat-footed run, i can only think of one guy in the NBA who runs similarly: primoz brezec. :p

Whether he's sloooooow or slow, makes no difference. He can't hang in an up tempo offense, so if we draft him we scrap that kind of offense as a possibility or we trade him.

My team, the Rockets, have an injured limping Yao Ming (who was slow to begin with), a 50 year old backup Dikembe Mutombo (who's not exactly quick anymore) and a slow lumbering 7-2 Greek guy as our third stringer.

We're doing just fine. Obviously he's worthless to a team like Phoenix but in a slow team, he'll be fine.

On another note, why not trade for Patrick O'Bryant from Golden State. He's absolutely worthless to them now with Nellie's run and gun offense and probably has just as much upside, if not more than Hibbert.

precisely.

Hibbert outplayed Oden but G'Town still lost. Sucks because the 4th foul they called on Hibbert was BS. But he is a great passer, has a great post game, is showing a mid range J, has height, and is a great defensive player.

I think Hibbert has tremendous potential. I was impressed today...I especially liked how quickly he was able to get back on defense. He was involved in the offense at one end and was able to get back and block a shot - although it was called goal-tending - at the other end. I LIKE IT!!!

There are 2 problems.

1: Kevin Durant looks like he might stay in College meaning the pecking order for the draft moves up 1 slot.

2: Everyone saw what Hibbert could do on his own so his stock might rise above our potential pick.

Either way I'm still on board with getting him, as long as he is available. But I don't know if I would take him over Al Horford.

Time to go 0-11:D

This is the man Petrie will pick if he's available when we're picking (Unless we get top 5 or something). I'm sure of it. He's got the earmarks of a Petrie center (Intelligence, Passing from the high post, even showed signs of a midrange J) + fills all the needs we have (Size, Defense, Rebounding, Post skills).

I would be ecstatic to see Hibbert in Purple next year.

All the guys above are more athletic than this guy. He's 2 inches taller than Miller, without an outside shot (that's assuming we're talking Miller of previous years in which he can actually shoot an outside shot).

Dampier and Diop aren't much more athletic if they are at all... Miller isn't even 7'0''. He looks more like 6'10''-6'11'' honestly. And Hibbert has really long arms. He's a legit 7 footer with nice long arms. He's a good shotblocker. Yesterday he blocked Oden. Not TOO MANY people are going to do that.

Athletecism in itself is overrated. What I'm more concerned about is if there is a brain inside the head. Hibbert's IQ is extremely high for a center. Only 20 years old and he's already so polished.

Not to mention he was DPOY in college. So you KNOW he can defend

Pretty useless at this point, but ESPN.COM's mock draft has us picking Hibbert 10th with a 1.1% chance.

told you Roy Hibbert

when was it that I said what about roy??

still if we are not lucky enough to get him.....Josh McRoberts son.....

these are my three picks in order.

1. Roy Hibbert - beast -
2. Josh McRoberts - white cwebb -
3. Corey brewer - the future ron artest(none wife beating) lol j/k

i hope roy i am so tired of people getting like 30 lay ups on us. D*** it!

bibby/ronnie/douby
kmart/cisco
maybe ron/salmons/BIG NASTY(cheap)

That lineup would doom us to failure for many years to come. There had better be a lot more changes than the acquisition of one player. A LOT more...

I am with you on Hibbert, but McRoberts is gonna be terrible.

People forget that Diop didn't do anything for his first 4 years in the NBA. Are we willing to spend a top 10 pick on that type of project? I doubt it. And Diop isn't exactly an All-Star. So, maybe Hibbert is another Diop. If so, I don't want him.

From what I saw of him in the NCAAs, I wasn't impressed. I saw a Ohio State guard, or a very small forward, make a layup on Hibbert and Hibbert was within about 3 feet from him. The offensive player just quick-jumped over him. Very unimpressive.
