Ronald Murray and Jamaal Magloire

Now, I'm not one for making new threads, nor am I one to advocate the signing of any of these two guys, but the reason I do bring this up is that both of these two players have been pretty prominent in the past.

Today, Flip Murray (Pistons) and Jamaal Magloire (Nets) were waived today. Magloire actually was an all-star in 2004 (sad how far he's fallen) and he's basically a big earthbound body with a semidecent offensive game, although his work ethic has to be severely questioned because he couldn't even pry minutes from Jason Collins of all people. Flip Murray had a breakout season in Chicago but really struggles as a role player when he doesn't have the ball as much, but can provide some volume scoring punch with his ever so streaky shot and slashing skills.

Now, I don't want to take away minutes from Shelden, but Jamaal Magloire has the credentials to perhaps warrant a look, although I don't think we shall go any further than that because his work ethic seems horrible. But I'm wondering what your opinions about him are, whether you differ from my POV, etc. Likewise, I don't want Murray to supplant Douby and/or Salmons, but he does have scoring talent, has played for a winning team (like Beno w/ SA), and can merit consideration as well. Thoughts?

Sometimes one man's trash is ... another man's trash.

At this point, if we're really going to commit to rebuilding, we need to stay away from players like this. Couldn't pry minutes away from Jason Collins? Has a questionable work ethic? Bringing someone like that to the Kings would, IMHO, be asking for problems. Flip Murray struggles as a role player? Hrm... I think we already have our quota of those, too.

So, my opinions on each are thanks, but no thanks.

These would be the sort of signings that teams in contention would look to pull off but a team in transition like shouldn't be making these sort of moves. Signing Magloire would take away the minutes od Hawes and Williams and that should be the last thing we need to do.

I would think that teams like Dallas and New Orleans might be interested in someone like Magloire or Murray on the cheap to address their needs but it really serves no purpose to us.

What we should be doing is giving Hawes, Williams and Douby MORE playing time, not take away the little they do get.

these guys would be great for teams like boston, cleveland, suns who need depth for the playoff run. it wouldn't make sense for us to pick up these players. if they are still effective it would only mean a lower draft pick and time taken away from our kids.

if Magloire were available before the deadline, trading Miller would have made sense. otherwise, they only take time away from players that need developing.

Miller is playing at an All Star level and you would even consider trading him at all much less for a fallen-from-grace Magliore??? Naw. I'd keep Mikki before Mags. And lets see what Shelden can bring first whose pluses are same as Mags minuses: work ethic, aggressive, decent offensive game, rebounder and shot blocker. Shelden just needs some minutes and a chance to play.

wow VF21 and I agree for once!

I agree...we don't need players like Ronald "Flip" Murray and Jamaal Magloire. We already have John Salmons, Francisco Garcia and Quincy Douby for Murray and Spencer Hawes and Shelden Williams for Magloire.

VF21 had it right: "one mans trash is sometimes another mans trash". And thats the case with Murray and Magliore. Nope, Kings are set for this year. Let's see how they do on this roady and if they win 3 of 5 or better, then I'm happy for rest of year.

Bring back Justin Williams

That would make a lot more sense, if Mark Cuban doesn't swoop him up, they're looking for 2 bigs and he's got a list of only 3 candidates. Dunno if Justin has even the slightest interest in dealing with our front office again...
The Mavs need help at center and (Cuban) says he's considering Justin Williams, Dale Davis or Jamaal Magloire.

Yeah, I figured those were the typical responses. A couple of things: our roster's not really structured for Magloire, with Mikki, Miller, and mostly Shelden and Hawes seeing spot minutes, and that's not even including Kenny Thomas and Lorenzen Wright who are not even playing for us. Our roster's best suited for developing young players, and Magloire's not young anymore, and seeing that he's quite proven, he's best fit for a playoff team. And those work ethic issues I brought up? We don't need any more of those.

Flip Murray works the same way: proven player in the past, wallowing present. Although he didn't have the extreme fall that Magloire suffered, he'd probably still despise being second fiddle on our very mediocre team; there's something to be said about ego.
