Rock Band Draft - Round 6 (Wrap Up)

Welll, much as I think changing things midstream isn't a good idea, the above is pretty scarce comfort. What are the odds anybody would steal our exact name? And the "put it together" doesn;t depend on others at all.

As for 6 being a hoe down...I cna put together better music wiht six than 5 (or 4, let alone 3), but its just a rarity amongst rock bands. Would open up all the creative options, but then you maybe jsut call this the band thread, ratehr than rock band thread, since the heart of rock/a rock band wouold be singer/guitarist/bassist/drummer.

True, but I think it's a better idea than making the band 6 members.

My next band member choice is

David Draiman - Lead Vocalist - Disturbed

DavidDraiman2.jpg

Almost everything Disturbed comes out with is good and the guy just has an awesome voice.

That guy is on my permanent hate list, for personal reasons revolving around a show I paid good money to see that I missed all but 3 songs of because of a special midnight concert bumped the start and end times... and he was actually standing at the front of the line for. The person who gave the concert and him have a special place in hell now.

Well that and I feel pretty much the same way about Disturbed as No Bonus feels about surf music.

Pick #2, and I'll probably get killed for this one too, but like I said...I'm going in a different direction. The in their prime rule definately is being invoked for this pick, as he had so much talent wash away from him over the years, and now has a pretty bad reputation. However, in the late 80s, and very early 90s, no one was cooler than this guy. He's the king of pop for a reason, and no one can match his raw ability as a dancer, and a lead vocalist.

Pick #2: Michael Jackson (Lead Vocals/Dancer/Choreographer)

Pure dancing prowess:

Alright, gonna throw this up before I lose my nerve:

Bootsy Collins -- Bass & backup vox

Aha! Funk metal fu! Denied the Flea choice, I'm going to go ahead and dip back to the guy who was his idol and who practically invented funk bass. When you have a guy who can dominate one side of the stage the way Slash can, who better to hold down the other than a guy with just as many chops on his own instrument and an iconic image of his own. Was tempted to take him in his full space bass regalia, but it wouldn't really mesh with my band idea, so looking for a bit of a toned down Bootsy as above (yes that's toned down for Bootsy).

I select:

John Fogerty/Creedence Clearwater Revival for Lead Vocals/Guitar #2

I selected John Fogerty for his voice, his songwriting, his guitar licks, and his swamp-rock style.

Stevie Wonder - Lead Vocals / Piano / Keyboards

I am happy that I was able to put this together. Stevie and Carlos! If I get to put this all together it will be epic. For me at least, probably still lose in the voting, but that is not really the idea.

This was supposed to be my Axeman pick, but losing Flea changed my mind. I only have one alternate bassist and I ain't gonna lose it. For my second pick, I select:

[yt=Les Claypool]9USb_OQza44[/yt]

Les Claypool - Bassist/Backup Vocals

One of the best bassist out there, IMO.

Bootsy and Claypool are both fantastic picks.

I didn't put together a proper list for this draft since I'm not participating, but I did start going over names in my head for the fun of it -- I didn't expect my bassists to be the first to start getting picked, but Bootsy, Claypool, and Flea would have been my top three options. I'd have also had Prince on piano and vocals, but no one has even come close to my lead guitar.

You should add "songwriting" here, because even though I don't think its a real category, Fogerty was amazing and as it turns out almost solely repsonsible for CCRs hit parade. When the other guys revolted and he ratehr petulantly forced them to start writing their own songs, the quality took a huge dive and it was the beginning of the end.

I believe it was Dick Dale who dubbed himself "King of the Surf Guitar" which, in my opinion, he is not. Sure, he can play fast, but he barely charted compared to others....it is the classic case of having great skill but poor taste in music thus you make skillful, terrible music.

"I used to make fun of [the title (KoSG] and go buy one of those Burger King crown hats and wear it around," - Dick Dale, "King of Surf Guitar Still a Rebel" The Daily Texan, Jan 31, 2007.

Dale's website says the nickname was given to him by fellow surfers and sprang from the slightly more apt "Godfather of Surf Guitar" a nod to "Let's Go Trippin'" being widely considered the first example of the genre.

On a side note; poor taste ... terrible music ... so I'm guessing I can mark you as a NAY vote in the playoffs ;)

Crap. Les Claypool was my number 2 after Flea, and I was hoping I'd be able to sneak in Stevie Wonder. My pick will be up shortly, but I have to reshuffle.

Here we go - we're going to have some great stereo play on the R and L with Prince and my next pick:

Joe Satriani - "Rhythm"/2nd Lead Guitar

Joe_satriani.jpg

Satriani is widely recognized as a technically highly advanced rock guitarist, and has been described as a virtuoso. He has mastered many performance techniques on the instrument, including Legato, two-handed tapping and arpeggio tapping, sweep-picking, volume swells, harmonics, and extreme whammy bar effects. One of his trademark compositional traits is the use of Pitch Axis Theory, which he applies with a variety of modes.

Satch has speed, and emotion. I have no doubt that he will complement Prince nicely. The give and take between my first two players will be fantastic.

Great pick. One of my favorite guitarists of all time. But he's too good to be a second lead for Prince, though.

Yeah, for the purposes of the draft though, he had to be listed as such. Can you imagine how "Purple Rain" would sound given a little Satriani?

Continuing to fill my rhythm section:
Benjamin Orr - Bass Guitar/Vocals (Associated Acts: The Cars, Big People, Solo)

Bassically (ha!) I needed a bassist that could handle new wave/punk and also be able to sing both backing and lead vocals competently. While I had about 4 that met all my qualifications, Ben is the most well rounded option and his deeper voice will best complement the voices of his soon to be fellow bandmates.

Ben not only played bass guitar for the Cars, but he sang lead on a number of their hits and most recognizable tunes including "Drive" (their biggest hit), "Just What I Needed" and "Moving in Stereo"

In addition to the Cars he had a solo album The Lace which featured one top 40 hit "Stay the Night" He also performed with Big People which included former 38 Special guitarist Jeff Carlisi, so you know he's got some "supergroup" experience.

Okay, now I am confused. I had really high hopes for your second pick and it ended up being a fourth round kind of pickup... you'd better have a pick hidden up your sleeve for round 3 or I am going to be outright disappointed.

Prince is a top notch guitar player, but to have prince playing lead over Satriani is kind of nuts.
