Rock Band Draft - Round 6 (Wrap Up)

"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott - Lead Guitar

RIP. His rifts were legendary. He for me was greatest of all time. What a shame his life was cut short:(. We will never forget your brillance.

Strong pick my man, strong pick. He didn't fit in the direction I ended up going, but I considered him in earlier plans.

Me too.. By the way LP, Kingzrool posted a question to u if u wanted to keep #14 or go with #16. Perhaps u didn't see it?

Looks like he landed on his feet here pretty well. I don't think the subsequent speed metal or surf music picks undermined LP's plans here am I right? :)

I'm wondering if we might be able to extend this to an even six members. It would even out the logistics of the draft by balancing the number of beginning/end of draft picks we all have.

Plus, on a selfish, personal level I'm having trouble deciding between two artists as my last pick.

And it's not as though we're stretching the talent pool too thin.

Does this pose a problem to anyones strategy? Yea? Nea?

It does however begin to stretch the concept of a rock band...and besides, I already gave up one of my ideas for a band because it took 6. ;)

P.S. I am actually thinking that this particular idea could be recycled, perhaps even more than once, as peoiple try out different combinations etc.

Hmm, so I'm still unsure about what direction to go in. But since I'm going to have to wait a while before my next pick, I might as well go with someone who I know I'll like, no matter what...

Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave) - lead guitar

Simply put, he's taken guitar to where it's never been before. My favorite guitarist of the 90s.

Edited to add name of band

Oooohh...good pick.

I'm probably the last person that should be opposing this, but six members?

This is a rock band draft not a hoe-down line up.

Yeah, I don't know. I'm not particularly fond of changing the rules now that the draft has started. If there's an overwhelming consensus in favor I'll grudgingly support.

I don't like the 6 member idea, besides the "6th" pick is the name/put it together phase, so that keeps the order fair.

For the woefully musically uneducated among us following along from home, would it be too much to ask for folks to list the original bands their picks are coming from? I know some music from a lot of sources, but have no idea on band member names. This would allow me to put a name to a sound I know.

Thanks!

Yeah that's what I was thinking. The last person to pick a member will be the first to name their band etc., to make it fair
I'm banking on having such a wonderfully original idea/concept that I really believe that last round really is the big round anyways.

Good idea. I updated my pick to note that even though I did mention the Who later on in my pick. I'll probably add a sample at some point too, which is probably more important in case the band name does nothing for you, something that will happen down the road with my pics :)

I updated my pick with band information too ;)

John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE - Lead Vocals, Rhytm Guitar

Did not expect Lennon to be available to me in the 2nd round. In my mind I already settled on somebody else to lead my indie superband. I don't think that John will have much of a problem filling in those shoes. Besides, rock Gods would not look very favorably on kf.com if Lennon drops any further.

Welll, much as I think changing things midstream isn't a good idea, the above is pretty scarce comfort. What are the odds anybody would steal our exact name? And the "put it together" doesn;t depend on others at all.

As for 6 being a hoe down...I cna put together better music wiht six than 5 (or 4, let alone 3), but its just a rarity amongst rock bands. Would open up all the creative options, but then you maybe jsut call this the band thread, ratehr than rock band thread, since the heart of rock/a rock band wouold be singer/guitarist/bassist/drummer.

Bless you my good man, bless you!

I swear I had started to contemplate the fact that I would be forced to abandon all pre-conceived plans and strategies if Lennon fell to me - and was hoping somebody would step up and save me from that dilemma.

Seriously in the hour before your pick I wrote of this concern to the league commissioner and stopped just short of asking him to create a rule prohibiting the selection of two guys from the same band.

So thanks and congratulations!

I did that with my first pick if you didn't notice (not that I needed it anyway), and I planned on doing it with the rest of my picks

Haha, this line really tickled my funny bone.

Well, shucks; looks like my motion has been vetoed and I've got a tough decision come round five.

Happy to oblige. As I mentioned earlier, Brian Wilson was a founding member of the Beach Boys and really the backbone of the group from a writer/producer standpoint.

Dick Dale meanwhile has become an entity unto himself known in some circles as "The King of the Surf Guitar", but he can also be associated with his backing band the Del-tones.

I believe it was Dick Dale who dubbed himself "King of the Surf Guitar" which, in my opinion, he is not. Sure, he can play fast, but he barely charted compared to others....it is the classic case of having great skill but poor taste in music thus you make skillful, terrible music.

Dick Dale is not my personal favorite of the "surf" guitarists, but, terrible music? That's just crazy talk!

ok so what happens at 7:45 does the next person take over the clock automatically? Has it been common in these drafts for the clock to run out?
