It was a wonky list, but then almost all of them are. Too many different constituencies unless you narrow the question. 100 most technically proficient guitarists? (could probably make a list of 100 unknown studio type muscians for that one) 100 most influential? (older guys dominate) In your case you seem to be introducing songwriting, etc.

Here's where Slash is Top 10, nay likely Top 5: Chops/Charisma. And its not just the image either, its the guitarwork itself. Not a shredder, or just a shredder, he pulls emotion out of a guitar. And that's a large part of the art. Playing notes is easy. Making them talk is not.

Joan Jett made the list of top 100 guitar players too.

I hope nobody thinks I was being an apologist for the stupid list. I am an Angus/Slash fan and I think they are both terrific bold picks for this game. I'd have taken either one (yes to play alongside McCartney who I don't think has pidgeonholed my band in any way shape or form).

Rock on! I can't wait for my #2 and #3 picks to come around. THAT is when I will decide a direction - not before.

I have realized that in my ineptitude we have started this draft with 14 members. In my brilliance, I was thinking that any even number would work. The voting structure will have be tweeked to make this work. I have some vague ideas, but I am soliciting creative solutions.

Wow, while I'll agree it is in the benefit of a star's legacy to end while they're on top, I wholeheartedly disagree about the unplugged album. Have you listened to it? Some people regard it as one of the best acoustic albums around and its at the very least the best thing MTV Unplugged ever produced.

Most of my favorite versions of many Nirvana songs come off that album and it has several great covers. What do you see so bad about it?

If you want two more to push it up to 16 I'll jump on board with Alexander ... even though I still haven't decided which of an infinite ways I'd want to go with it :)

Sounds easiest, but it has been a while and no one has anteed up. Maybe a mod or anyone on the fence could jump in real quick like?

If we had one more, we would be 16.

This should go quickly, and I have to say it is a lot more complex then the other drafts as far as strategy. I think that we have a chance of people having to change their strategy several times over the 5 picks. It should be a lot of fun with so many directions to go in.

I did not think of that. It would really seem that because the draft has already started, if LPKingsFan wants the 16 position, he should have first dibs. The Randomizer did give the end spot to him. LPKingsFan, please choose between the 14th and the 16th spot before your first pick.

Welcome new participants, thanks for joining. We seem to be having a bit more to and fro discussion about quality of picks and such and I would like to encourage this. Lets make this fun and interesting.

Do I even need to type his name? See that's the kind of iconic megapresence I am looking for here. But as I mentioned, not a pick you recover easily from. Such a legendary presence at lead guitar that when I went looking for pictures of him I ran into cartoons, paintings, even an action figure. How many guitarists get action figures? And how many have such an instantly recognizable image that you see the little chunk of plastic and go, oh, that's so and so? About the only other guitarist with this combination of chops and image was Hendrix. I'm taking the man, his guitar, his famous hat, and even the cancer stick. So here we go -- finally figured out a wild idea for a crew to surround him with, but everybody has to cooperate and let me get my guys, because I am not sure there are any backups. Name is Slash BTW, lead guitar, and none of that backup vox crap -- part of the mystique is you barely know what he looks like beneath the getup, and he does all his talking with his guitar.

Flea (Michael Balzary of RHCP) - bass.

I am going to try to draft ultimate Indie rock band. Flea is the only guy that I identified that I must have as he is pretty much irreplaceable. I don't know what happened to music industry/production, but there are simply no great bass player and bass lines anymore. You have to go back 20-30 years for really great bass players and they were mostly of the simple-clean-but-great variety or funk bass players. So, Flea's my man on bass.

I know. So would have Prince, Slash, and Flea, but that was a pipe dream. I was thinking Flea had to have lasted into the second round with so many people concerned with frontmen. Oh well, c'est la vie.
