I thought the game was lookin' good - we foul and go home. Then I forgot - Rick is still the coach.
Make sure you have Bibby watching (not guarding) the 3 line. Rick is very consistant - no D / never had D and never will.

I’m not a huge RA fan but I seriously don’t see how we can blame him for the loss.
What part of “Stay with the shooters” didn’t Bibby understand? He told them what to do and they didn’t do it. This isn’t pre-school, nobody is going to hold their hands. This is the playoffs against the champs. Play like you mean it.

If Rick would have benched him a few times during the season, it might be different now. If you tell one of your kids to do something and they don't, do you just say Oh well....

They don't listen to Rick because he never (almost never - he finally wacked Brad a little) does anything about it. We used to just score so many points that it was OK (sort of).

They are on the right track with Ron and Bonzi (this Ron and a signed Bonzi) They can win with D, but Rick is not that kind of coach. Throwing Rick out won't fix things, but it is a start.

couldn't we have put reef on barry (length, can play the 3), and KT on duncan? if KT fouls duncan, that's exactly who you want on the line out of their group.

Newsflash: Fouling was not the correct call. Maybe you foul if there are 4-5 seconds left (although most great coaches are split 50-50 on this), but not with 14. With 14 seconds all you need is a stop- all the pressure is on them and if you get one stop you win. if you foul with 14 seconds left, you are putting all the pressure back on yourself to go hit free throws on the other end. That is STUPID.

U can blame alot of things on differnt situations... but Rick is the biggest looser. The smart move was to foul when ginobli was driving... there would have been like 9 seconds left and would have been perfect for the kings... they make thier free throws and run out the clock. Bibby should have never been in the game... KT would have been much better, even though i dont like him... whatever... kings choke all the time, guess we have to get used to it.

Well I am glad that this has come out then...

If that is the case, than Rick is not a fool... just the personel. This makes me feel alot better actually because i was tired of thinking our coach is a moron. Now mike has just official made the starting job for the all nba defenive sucking team

It's not the fact that he tells them the wrong things to do. It's the fact that they just don't listen to him and Bibby is guilty of this more than anyone. I sit right above the Kings bench and every time they are in a huddle Bibby sits on the edge of the scorer's table and is more often than not looking the other way. He will then go in, get that ball, and heave up a shot.

Ah i know i kno, i just felt like saying it again... some people would have considered nash or parker very poor defenders... but now we see mike is definatly worse...

Re-read that post. They were referring to Bibby being the leader of the "all nba defenive sucking team". Artest would clearly not be the leader of such an organization.

Adelman could've done things differently, but teams are in that situation ALL THE TIME. Up 3, defending off the inbounds with less than 24 seconds to play and the one thing you have to do is make them use the clock and have to take a 2. The Kings, specifically Mike Bibby, failed in the situation. With the game on the line, you've got to have Bibby out there. You've got to have the starting point guard on the floor to get him the ball in the case the Spurs get a quick two, or miss and you rebound it. If he can't stay with a guy trying to spot up on the weak side, then I guess it's a problem to deal with in the offseason.

I love that Grant never asked him why Bibby was in the lineup either. He only asked about what he told the team to do, and how did Bibby fall asleep like that. Not, "Hey coach, can I ask why Bibby was on the floor in the first place, in a situation when you needed a defensive stop, and that's ALL you needed.

Newsflash-3: Bibby had to be on the floor whether you like it or not. Wells HAD fouled out. We had only played 8 men (counting Garcia's 4 minutes). They put Duncan and four perimeter players on the floor- we had to counter that. Martin had Manu, Hart had Parker, I think Garcia was on Horry, and Reef on Duncan. So the question becomes, who do you want on Barry? Miller who is slow as a glacier, Thomas who has not guarded a perimeter player ALL season and is not familiar runnign off screens, Ronnie Price who hasn't played all game, or Bibby. Bibby might not be a good defender but he was our best bet.

Come on Doc, when you and I put it on Adelman for keeping Bibby out there that is Monday Morning QB stuff. Can we really blame Adelman for Bibby's abject failure in playing minimum defence for 20 seconds? All he had to do is to use his relative (to KT) mobility to stay with his man and maybe Barry would never get the ball and someone else (or Barry for that matter) would have more difficult shot?

Granted, now that we know what we know of course KT would have done better job, but asking your team leader and a veteran to shadow a guy for 20 seconds even though you know he doesn't do D is not that unreasonable. It's Bibby who left the most unathletic and the worst player among the Spurs wide open to do the only thing that he does well - shoot. This one's on Bibbster, RA is just a tragic figure who was robbed of his greatest single-game coaching achievement by one of his most trusted players who decided to have a brain-cramp and a total collaps (figuratively and literally) at the worst time.

Our best defenders were *already* on the floor, except for Artest, who wasn't in the gym, and Wells, whom had been disqualified. Bibby was the best-available player out of our crappy defenders.

Well Flip Saunders was great at failing for quite a while and he had KG. Now if he wins the championship with the Pistons, over night he becomes a genius coach and non-failure. (And it will have nothing to do with having different personnel this year, of course.) One coach wins each year. And they almost always have had better talent than the Kings have right now. Yeah, Rick's just good at failing.

Didn't you know that if you're a really good coach, its easy. The personnel you have, injuries, suspensions, bad referees, players making mistakes, lack of bench depth, mid-season roster changes, players unhappy with their role or minutes....what's the problem? And coaching one of only 3 teams to make the playoffs the last 8 years running = failure. Its all so clear to me now.

rick did a great job in getting the team to respond after the awful effort in game 1, however, that doesn't justify his mistake of leaving one of the worst defenders in the game during the last seconds when the opposing team has the ball. in bibby's defense, it looked like duncan fouled him so that he couldn't get to berry on time...but they're not going to call a foul off the ball against a mr. fundamental.
