Reno Bighorns not helping Kings.

Should Kings keep the fast but losing attitude in Reno or go to an NBA style game?

Unless they change it to where everyone on the D League team is under contract to the NBA team it doesn't matter. That's the difference between the NBA and MLB. You could be developing players for other teams.
It's a process; every team would have to have its own affiliate before that could happen, but all indications are that that's the direction they're heading. Why not be ahead of the curve? Ranadive likes to throw out meaningless buzz words like Basketball 3.0... Why couldn't B3.0 involve being progressive with how the D-League is used?

Because...Vivek.

That's all well, and to the good, unless you're a Lamb's Fan. That sort of attitude on the part of the owners contributed to why the Monarchs don't exist anymore.

No that's true. If I was a Reno fan I would be seriously pissed. You think I'm pissed about what's gone on here? If I were a Bighorns fan Kings officials would have to hire extra security just to visit Reno.

But since I am a Kings fan, I can rudely and selfishly say "better them than us".

This owner is a huge problem though. He's been handed a winning lottery ticket in DeMarcus, and he could easily blow it because all he cares about is rigging the system. you have to respect the game to excel at it. He doesn't. He thinks its a problem to be cleverly innovated away.

Gee, you guys and gals shouldn't hold back what you really think  any more. Confusidly I see both sides but the worrisome conspiracy theory of Viveks playground in Reno as a way to keep him away from f****** around with our Kings now they seem on a long term upswing is fraught with sinkholes. Each NBA team can protect (I think) up to 3 players without NBA contracts on their 100% affiliate D-league team PLUS any NBA contract players sent up (down?) to that team. The self protection of the prime team with D-league players familiar with the parent system can and is helping teams including some plsyoff bound teams.

That may have contributed, but I'd wager the biggest reason the Monarchs don't exist anymore is because the Maloofs didn't want to foot the bill anymore.

Biggest problem I see with considering it a toy or kind of an out of sight, out of mind project is this; what happens if Reno has a successful stretch, a successful season playing this garbage basketball?

Then suddenly the chances that nonsense filters down I-80 in some capacity increases. It can be considered a toy for Vivek at this point, because frankly it's an abject failure and we're the laughing stock of the D-League. But the D-League isn't a high level of play obviously and it's not far-fetched to think Reno can luck into some success. Then all the sudden that little toy has wheels, and those wheels could start turning due West.

Other aspect is good business men don't generally waste assets. Vivek excels in the tech sector but it's a huge red flag he seems intent on wasting this asset in the basketball sector and is making a mockery of the game.

That may have contributed, but I'd wager the biggest reason the Monarchs don't exist anymore is because the Maloofs didn't want to foot the bill anymore.
Oh, no question about it, but it was, if nothing else, listed chief among the 'official' reasons.

AHHHHHH!!! A really good article looking into the whole scenario of this years "experiment" the Reno Bighorns, by a British online news source The Guardian. A great read that puts it all in perspective IMHO. A must read for all of us. And bottom line, the Grinnell coach has only a 1-year contract that expires in April as well as a Kings funded apartment lease that expires in April.

yeah, that was posted in the other thread, the Vivek one I think. It was a good, and disturbing, read.

I remember when the plan was for Reno to run the same style as the Kings. That seems to make the most sense.

It was long ago but Karl cut his teeth in the CBA and even in Spain. I'm just saying let Karl make the hires for the Coaches in Reno along with his regular staff once we reach the off season.

From his Wiki:

"After his playing career, Karl became an assistant coach for the Spurs. Karl then moved on to the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) as head coach of the Montana Golden Nuggets (Great Falls). As coach of the Golden Nuggets, Karl won CBA Coach of the Year twice, in 1981 and 1983."

And:

"Karl returned to the CBA in 1988 as coach of the Albany Patroons for a year before coaching Real Madrid in Spain for two years.[3]

In 1990–91, Karl was back in the CBA with the Patroons where their 50–6 season, while winning all 28 home games, won coach Karl CBA coach of the year for the third time."

So Vivek simultaneously wants his Dleague team to be the fastest running and gunning team in all of the land AND do so with the largest, slowest, fattest guy in the Dleague? A guy that just happens to be the same ethnicity as the owner.

Tells you all you need to know about Vivek.

That's interesting. The part that stood out is that the coach has virtually no contact with the Kings. The only real contact is Dean Oliver sending him stats on a regular basis.

It sounds like this is Dean Oliver's experiment with pro players

You mean the guy who had the triple-double last night?

Simsanity!

Reno lost 127-104. I mention that because it's missing from this article. Conveniently.

The article reads like it's from the onion. Enjoy.
‘Simsanity’ is just getting started. At 7-foot-5 and over 160 kgs, there are no bigger players in the D-League or the NBA than the Canadian Punjabi. With his incredible combination of size, talent, and positioning in the post, Bhullar has all the tools required to become a once-in-a-generation talent. His cultural background also place a great responsibility on his shoulders to carry forward the hopes of hundreds of thousands of basketball fans of Indian-origins across the world, but the big man certainly has the size and talent to shoulder that responsibility. Hopefully, he’ll continue to have the patience as well as the hunger to become the first player of Indian-descent to play in the NBA.

Why are they using the metric system for weight, and the imperial system for height? Is it to make him seem svelte to those who don't know the metric system (uh, Americans?)

Now that Jordan Hamilton of Bighorns got a 10-day from Clippers, thats 4 recent starters going "up" to NBA or Europe (Haslip). At least they can shoot but likely not much else.
