Quincy Miller

He could have said no, but who in the DL would ever pass up a chance to get some time in the NBA and maybe stick on a roster? As far as our rights on him, it depends on if he was one of our 3 guys we're allowed to protect on our DL team, which I don't think he was.

Good point, I had forgotten about that. Not even sure if we can protect him under that rule. Hey, the Capt will know. Meantime, I'll go do some research.

He's very skinny and lanky...I remember watching him play for Denver, he is a chuck artist. Other than that, I guess it won't hurt to bring in some new blood. Even the Warriors managed to get a d-league gem in Holiday and he's producing for them.

Can Rudy be traded, or is there a time limit - like he can't be traded till next year? serious question.

Rudy was signed to a three-year extension, which is one year longer than allowed for an "extend-and-trade". Because of that, we can't trade him until 6 months after the extension was signed. Since he signed the extension in the middle of November, we can't trade him until the middle of May.

I'm not super up on the D-League rules, but from a quick glance at the FAQs on the official D-League site, here's what I have gleaned. First off, outside of players who are actually on our NBA roster (for instance, if we were to send Nik Stauskas down to Reno to get some seasoning) we technically can't protect anybody on the Bighorns. All the players are free agents as far as the NBA is concerned. However, each team is allowed to have up to four "affiliate" players. What this "affiliate" status means is quite a bit different than any normal concept of "protection" as you might see in MLB's minor leagues. By "affiliate" status, what is meant is that each team is allowed to take as many as four players from their own training camp, cut them from the NBA roster, and then designate them to their own D-League affiliate instead of allowing them to be a D-League free agent. Obviously, these players don't need to play in the D-League (they can go to Europe, and they are NBA free agents if any other team wants to pick them up onto their 15-man roster) but if they DO play in the D-League, they have to play for a particular team. In our case, we currently have two "affiliate" players, Sim Bhullar and David Wear. Quincy Miller was a D-League free agent. I don't recall him being in our training camp this year - I think the Bighorns picked him up as a D-League free agent.

At any rate, from everything I've read, we didn't have any rules-based advantage to signing Miller to a ten-day, nor could we have over-ridden another team's attempt to sign him to a ten-day by "matching". It sounds as if several teams were interested, but Miller chose us. Perhaps we were the first team to come forward with an actual offer (rather than sort of a "we're thinking about it, keep in touch" thing), perhaps Miller was encouraged by the fact that between injuries to Gay and Casspi that he might see more opportunity for action on the Kings than the other teams that were interested. Perhaps the fact that the Bighorns are our own D-League franchise might have predisposed him to consider us first. Obviously I don't have a clue on his thinking as to why he chose us. But we didn't have a way to strong-arm it - nor would we have a way to strong-arm it for the guys who are our affiliate players.

Quincy was the guy I wanted us to draft in the 2nd round when he was still there on the board.
I'm fine with taking a flyer on him.

Quincy on a 10-day, however, does little to increase my enthusiasm in watching this team.
Really liked his game in college. Very skilled offensive player with size.

Hopefully Miller can impress by playing good BB. The team needs all the help it can get. If Miller turns out to be a bust at least it wasn't an expensive and long contract.

What position does he play? The Kings have two young SG who need minutes. At SF there is Gay, Omri and DWill. I think this is just the FO throwing stuff at the wall and hoping it sticks.

I think it was us locking in talent b4 it went to another team.

He's a SF. Physically he's built a lot like Kevin Durant or Anthony Randolph. Very long and lanky.

He adds shooting and some depth at SF with recent injuries to Gay & Casspi.

And I could see him playing alongside Gay or Williams if one of those guys guards the opposing PF. For that matter, against a team like Chicago when the Bulls have Butler at SG, Mirotic at PF and Snell or Dunleavy at SF I could see the Kings potentially running out Gay at SG, Miller at SF and Williams at PF if Miller shows himself to be a good bench scorer.

i hope we give this guy some solid minutes to see what he can do in the NBA. I think he has a NBA future. Solid bench guy at the VERY least.

i remember my Nuggets die hard fan buddy absolutely raving about Miller when the Nuggets had him. He just got stuck in a situation where he couldn't get into the Nuggets rotation due to the veterans they had at the same position

So if you have a player on your D-League team, and he's very talented, and, other teams around the league are starting to take notice, you think we should just say the hell with it, and let him walk away because we have other players at the position he plays? If so, then what prey tell is the purpose of the D-League? We have a roster spot open, he comes cheap, and we have a couple of players with injuries. So why not? I'm as pissed at the front office as the next guy, but that doesn't mean every single thing they do is stupid, or has some sort of subversive intent. By the way, he plays SF, has very good handles for a SF, played good defense at Baylor, and was a decent weakside shotblocker. He's also a deceptive athlete wiho will fool you with his quickness.

I hear what you are saying about protecting the teams assets by bringing him in for 10 days, it makes sense. Stauskas was DNP CD and that does not make sense.

Can this kid get some love? He's probably the only bright spot for this squad since Malone got canned.

He hasn't had a breakout game, but he looks very solid so far. Gives good effort on defense. Good FT shooter and looks great attacking the basket. Most importantly, he looks VERY comfortable out on the floor.

I'd love to see him get a cheap 1-2 year contract. Definitely worth locking up now, looks like a player who could blow up with solid coaching in the right situation.

We could potentially be the right situation, but we do not have solid coaching. We could do worse at backup SF. In fact, we have, and when DWill is in, we do.

I like him so far, he got a couple blocks and got the line several times. Hopefully he can make more of his 3's. It shows that he has a couple years of experience.

I like his play. Our bench needs all the help it can get, and given what now clearly has become another lost, "rebuilding" year, it can't hurt to give him a decent amount of burn.

We've apparently reached that point in the season where any news that doesn't suck is good news. He's looked ok out there. Like the energy and length but don't know if he's got an NBA position (as a regular contributor). Hope they keep him around for a little while but don't think there should be any rush to sign him to a longer term deal.

Really like this young man. He's really taking advantage of his call up.

At this point, I think he should be signed to an actual contract. Maybe 2 years.

Whoa whoa whoa! :p

He looked ok. Maybe enough for a second 10 day. And maybe after that we keep him the rest of the year. But the only real way that works or fits is if we find he is serviceable enough that it frees us up to move Williams or Nik or both.

Who cares what position players play at this point. The team needs more talent period. And it's not about this year and who plays what position. It's about next year and the years after. Right now I don't see DWill or Omri being around next year.

Don't get to carried away yet with Q. His length is interesting and he's giving great effort but he's on a 10 day contract, he's supposed to be playing for a contract. Dude needs to make shots and more specifically, 3 point shots.

I like his length and athleticism. He has the potential to be a good defensive player. He's got to get stronger though so he can finish inside. He's missed a lot of chipees because he's not quite strong enough.
