Question, Who would you trade Kevin for?

Question is if we use the Blazers model and do a complete rebuild from top to bottom what would you want in return?

thats hard because kevin isnt good enough to trade for someone like dwight howard or chris paul.... what are our options? because i would definitely trade kevin for lebron....

In terms of realism, the likeliest trade would probably be for Durant, which I could take or leave. But, if we're just talking fantasy/hypotheticals here, **** yeah, give me Dwight Howard.

thats what i mean... realistically any player on kevins level is worse than kevin... the only players that we could get are ellis, gordon, durant or brandon roy...

though i would probably trade martin and filler for roy, rudy and sergio... though the blazers wont....

He's 25. I think even under the Blazers model he can be part of the rebuild. Kevin's not the superstar we need, but these sudden pushes to trade him so we can rebuild are a bit farfetched -- he's a young star level player, that's the guy you trade FOR in a rebuild, not trade away.

So hypothetically, an under-30 superstar in the league, or near surefire superstar in the draft. LeBron, Oden. But Paul wasn't guaranteed, neither was Howard, dangling your best player, and a young player, for somebody who might not pan out is dangerous to say the least.

Martin is not as good (or young) as Roy, Blazers would never do that deal. And we would never get Durant in return for Martin. Durant has an extremely high ceiling, regardless of whether he reaches it or not. Kevin is a very good player but he doesn't have the potential to be on that level. Durant will be a disappointment as far as most are concerned if he doesn't turn out to be a franchise player.

Just to clarify incase anyone got the wrong impression; I do not want to trade Martin. He's relatively young and very hardworking. He is exactly the kind of player we want to keep around during a rebuild.

you have a point... roy is really good... how about martin/thomas/filler for sergio/rudy/batum/raef? that would be insane...

I actually like this because I think Rudy is going to be a Ginobili type player. But I actually don't see the Blazers doing this. At least not yet

it would be great for both teams if we could somehow get rid of beno...

Roy(24) is not that much younger than Martin(25), and I would argue who is better. Roy's ceiling may be higher, but right now Martin is the better player. All that being said, trading them fro each other would almost be a wash. I don't see it helping either team very much.

As for Durant, I think he is a VERY overrated player. He put up huge numbers as a Freshman in college and everyone just assumed he would be a franchise player. I will be shocked if he ever becomes a superstar. I think he is much more likely to have a career similar to that of Rashard Lewis. IMO Martin will have a better career than Durant. That is not so much high praise for Martin as it is a lack of faith in what Durant is supposed to be.

I'll be surprised if Durant turns out to be a superstar. Doesn't mean he can't be pretty good though. I just don't think he's a franchise player, and thats what the Thunder expect him to be. He averaged 20 pts a game last year on around 17 shots a game. He only shot 43 percent from the field and was atrocious from 3 pt range. He's rebounding was just average for a SF and he averaged slightly more turnovers than assists.

This year so far I believe he's shooting around 41 percent from the floor. I think Lewis is a good analogy, and thats not exactly a bad thing.

Yeah, but he's what, 20? You can't expect everyone to come in and live up to their potential right away.

And I have to disagree if you think he's gonna be a Rashard Lewis, as in, a player that plays like Rashard Lewis, because Lewis is a great shooter. Durant is not. However, if you meant on the same level as Lewis, well then we'll just have to wait and see.

I agree with you on the expectations. However, I would hope that Durant improves his shooting, because thats the mainstay of his offense. His shooting % was better in college, but then he didn't face the same quality of defense as he does now. I guess I picked Lewis as a comparison because thats who he reminded me of in college. I think Lewis might be a little quicker than him.

No he isn't. Martin may be the superior scorer, but Roy is the superior player.

I'll anser the question since nobody else wants to.

Paul
James
Howard
Bynum
Williams
Wade
Durant
Bosh
Roy
Iguodala

That's purely subjective. You could argue one way or the other and bottom line is it comes down to personal preference. IMO, Martin is much more efficient and a superior scorer than Roy, while Roy is a better playmaker than Martin. Overall, I think Martin is the better player, even if it's microscopic. It's a debate over splitting hairs.

Technically, saying Luke Walton is better than Kevin Martin is subjective.

i would say bosh but it would effect JTs playing time.. umm i just dont liike the players that we could get for him better... even durant

Right. There's no way in hell I don't pull the trigger on a straight up Roy for Martin trade, then change all my phone numbers so that the other GM can't call and change his mind. Hands straight down, Roy > Martin.

That's not to knock Kevin Martin, at all, and I don't understand why anyone's even considering what we could trade him for. He should be an integral part of our retooling, and unless we can get a star player or an elite big for him (I'd do Miller/Martin for Stoudemire, still), there's no reason to consider moving him. He's a stud.

But yeah, Brandon Roy is better.

I wouldn't trade him for Greg Oden, though. Sorry. I think that if you look up "star-crossed" in the dictionary, you'd see Oden's picture. Sucks, cuz he's evidently a great guy, but I don't think he's going to have a particularly good career.
