I'm starting to really believe MKG is going to fall to us at #5. I'm going to be as nice as I can here while I make this point, but did you guys see this interview with him from the combine?
Let me start off by saying that it would be a mistake if someone passed on him for this reason, but due to his speech impediment I think he's going to have a hard time selling himself to some of the teams in front of us. All of the experts talk about how important the interviews are. Most call them the most important part of the pre draft process. The sit down dinners when players are in for individual workouts mean a lot.
When you look at the others guys in the top 4 range .. those guys sell themselves HARD. That is one of the things I really like about Thomas Robinson. I'm convinced he's going to talk his way into the top 4. Bradley Beal has a lot of this in him too. MKG's 'I don't care where I go' mentality is great for us, but possibly bad for teams looking for go-getters. No one will question MKG's toughness, energy, mentality, or fire ... but those guys can TALK that game better than MKG can.
That's just the off the court stuff, the other thing is his numbers. When was the last time a non-big / non point guard, American born player was taken in the top 4 averaging less that 12 ppg? This can't happen often, if ever. I think teams ( and really we only need Washington and Charlotte to pass ) will put these two things together, among other things (team needs) allowing MKG to drop to us.
I don't think this is wishful thinking either. I really think this is happening. At least that is how I feel at this point in the pre draft process. Some team could easier fall in love with him and trade into Charlotte's spot though.
EDIT: Also found this one, where he talks about the Kings.
