Great examples.
I, too, like MKG a lot. However, does he have the long arms and reach that those guys do? If so, I'm on board with you. If not, I still have a legit concern.

MKG has a great wingspan, which is why he was the best wing defender alongside Taylor in all of college basketball last year. (Not counting Craft who guarded PGs)
We'll know for certain his wingspan after the measurements tomorrow.

One more thought ... I think many are a bit too hung up on height, especially as it relates to post players, and overlook other aspects such as a players frame and standing reach. For example, Hakeem Olajuwon is not 7 foot tall. He is around 6'10" but was listed at 7 foot due to his standing reach. Charles Barkley is somewhere around 6'6", but has long arms and a WIDE frame. DeMarcus Cousins is closer to 6'9 than 6'11", but also has outstanding reach and a WIDE body. Kevin Love is practically the prime example of a post player that doesn't have exceptional height (I think around 6'8" ??), but his wide frame and long arms make up for it. If one player is 6'9" and another is 6"7" yet they have the same standing reach, how does the 2" difference in height matter? Last I checked, they don't rebound the ball with the top of their head.
Point is, if Thomas Robinson is 6'8" but with a 7'3" wingspan and the strong, wide body that he has .. he really isn't at all undersized for a PF.
You're right that length is more important than height. If he comes out with a 7 foot + wingspan and a decent standing reach height won't be an issue. The only problem is that he doesn't use his length to effect the game the way this team needs it to be effected.

Robinson isnt a shot blocker, but apparently he tries on D.
In their primes, a Robinson/Boogie frontcourt will easily make us a playoff team, but probably not a contender.
Anyways...I still think MKG drops to us. Whether or not GP takes him is another thing. It could be the Rubio draft all over again (and probably with just as much bickering on this board).

That "you don't rebound with the top of you head" line actually only applies to rebounding though. Unless you run around with your arms permanently over your head, heaight still effects everything else -- guys can shoot over you if your arms are down, they can pass over you the same, they can see over you for those passes, because you are shorter, all things being equal you are not going to be able to carry as much weight. When you shoot, you're in a lot more danger of having the shot altered or blocked. When you try to pass, you can't see over the guys you are trying to pass through/over etc..
Bickering on this board or any is a given. So its potential shouldn't bother us or Petrie at all.

a reke and MKG backcourt would kill defensively but what about the shooting? hopefully reke finally gets that jumshot down but still to expect him to be able to shoot 3's probably wont happen. Then we have terrence williams who is improved shooter still isnt a knockdown shooter. How is MKG as a passer? i dont watch college ball but ive been reading a lot about the draft.

Of course. With my continuing proviso -- I want to talk to, see, and understand Drummond. But if its anyone else but Drummond, of course. And if its Drummond and I don't like what I'm seeing and hearing, yes again. Said from the beginning 3 of the top 6 guys were "our" guys, our need guys -- Davis, Drummond and MKG. That's a pretty darn good percentage when you are picking 5th. Suck if they are all gone in the Top 4.

Yes, yes, and yes. Great defensive SF who is athletic who I think, can gel pretty well with Tyreke and Cousins. Also if we can make a move at Okafor and keep JT, I think those two moves can get us into the playoffs.

Another thing to consider, though, is a slightly shorter, wide-bodied player has a lower center of gravity in which to gain leverage to move out the taller player. Also, even if the taller player has a length advantage, the wide-bodied player is hard to get around. That's one of the things that makes DCuz so tough down low. Barkley was so wide and skilled, that he was practically impossible to get around or outleverage.

I've seen MKG play more than a few times, but apparently his wingspan never stuck out to me. I hope your right and he measures out well. If the length is there, of course I'd be a huge supporter of selecting him, if available. However, if the measurements are favorable, the odds are he is gone by #3.

MKG's offense is going to be a legit concern for all the teams below us. CHA is last in PPG and WASH and CLE are 25 and 23 so Beal and Barnes have real chances to go somewhere in the top 4 so as long as Robinson is in that group we could really land MKG. SAC ranks 6th in PPG but last in opposing PPG so another scorer is not really needed.

GP's record when it comes to drafting cannot be ignored. That is a real strength of his as he rarely gets it wrong in that spot. Jimmer could very well prove to be a mistake but could still work out nicely next to Reke and that's if you actually believe that Jimmer was Petrie's pick! I am of belief that Maloofs wanted Jimmer for their marketing push to get as much money as they could get.
As long as Maloofs stay the **** out of it, I trust that GP will get us a very good player in this draft and might even get us a productive player in the 2nd round.

People pay way too much attention to height. If it were that simple, you'd just draft the tallest player available every single time, regardless of the multitude of other factors that make a guy a good basketball player.
Last year nobody thought Knight AND Walker would be there at 7. This year nobody is thinking that Robinson AND MKG will be there at 5. It's not out of the realm of possibility, though. In any case, it's not the time for Petrie to trade down this year.

He still is a great defense player all the way to the perimeter except he can be backed down by a powerful point guard. He also has no offense beyond 10 ft. Considering we have been directed towards wanting a shot blocker, and I agree, we have to realize there is no perfect player. This is where the concept of team enters the equation. Cover the weaknesses of one player with a player who has matching strengths. That's how we got onto this shotblocker kick in the first place. Every player has a hole in his game. Some of the holes can be fixed and some can't.
BTW, how many legitimate shot blockers carry enough weight to be able to hold there own by a powerful big trying to force him towards the rim? I really don't know.
