I'm just not sure McCollum is going to be the best talent available at 7.
i totally agree with that, i was just saying im a fan of his. not necessarily saying i think he should go 7

They're finally starting to upload stuff on the Kings's youtube page.

Reading between the lines, sounds like they brought in Myck Kabongo to pressure CJ McCollum and see if he could handle it. Sounds like Malone was impressed with CJ's ball-handling. Also seems like he was beaming about CJ overall.
Yeah I don't agree with the Jimmer comparison at all. I never thought Jimmer was a PG anyway. Jimmer can't handle the ball well or handle pressure well and his defense is still at a high school level.. Mccollum has the handles to be a pg in the nba. He definatley can score from anywhere. His questions will come as a facilitator. he seems like a very very bright kid and the type of kid that will do what is asked of him. could work good next to Tyreke. He isn't lightning in a bottle like IT. IT would be what he is supposed to be a change of pace guy with high energy. I could see CJ on the kings. If you judge it soley by who will be available and who we need. Nobody else projected in that range impresses me much other than CJ. Unless you trade the pick. If CJ is available you take him no questions asked. After all I am not overly concerned with building through the draft anymore. We have our top 2.
I wouldn't mind McCollum tbh. In todays NBA ALL the top pg's need to be able to score(Parker, Westbrook, Paul, Williams, Rose, Irving, Curry, Lawson, Lillard, Holiday, Conley Jr.). I can really only think of Rondo and Rubio as throwback pg's these days(Nash is too old to be considered). McCollum could also potentially be a very good defender, he reads passing lanes extremely well and has lenght at the pg position, as well as high bball IQ. I like Tyreke, but lets be honest, his basektball iq is average at best, he gets extreme tunnel vision when isolated and driving in. For me Tyreke will be best used as an Igoudala type, let him become an elite defender and feed him on the break, only isolate if absolutely necessary.
A KF head scratching moment is the one where a franchise repeatedly burned by this style player, and one already overloaded with offensive players who need the ball, is now deemed to be in need of a guy who's best offensive traits are his ability to shoot off his own dribble, and coming off of screens, both plays which burn up possessions and indicate a featured role.

I doubt this team will be overloaded with offensive players for long. D'Alessandro & Malone have only really ever mentioned Tyreke and Cousins. Well Malone said he was familiar with Thornton from his time in NO. Of course he didn't mention that it was also the period where MT was benched (supposedly for not playing D) and then traded.
PDA has said on a few occasions that the Kings have talent but the pieces don't fit.
I think McCollum fits great next to Tyreke and spaces the floor for Cousins.
Everyone else is fungible.
I mean, I like IT as a change of pace PG and JT as the first big off the bench but really I'm on board with moving anyone other than Evans and DeMarcus if it improves the roster.
I wonder what the new management thinks of both JT and Patrick Patterson. Based off what I seen last year Patterson can more than give JT a run for his money, which leads me to my next question. What can a JT/1st rounder package net us?

These are the little snippets that just have me shaking my head. I sure hope they have more to go on than Kabongo when it comes to McCollum's ability to handle pressure. The gushing by the coach in a scripted workout isn't what I want to hear. McCollum is going to be dealing with guys better than Kabongo in the NBA.
That's why we drafted Tyreke... his dominance of the other college guards in workouts. These are the little snippets that just have me shaking my head. At PF I agree (better offensively and a nice hoops IQ, worse rebounder & defender) but JT's value is enhanced by his ability to play PF and C making him a very solid 3rd big on a very reasonable contract. Patterson on the other hand is in a contract year which complicates the decision.
Kabongo is a flawed prospect but he's a big PG and one of the fastest players in the draft. Very few better options to put against McCollum in a pre-draft workout.
Look, if it's a few days before the draft and you don't know if McCollum can handle pressure D, then you've done a pee-poor job of scouting during the season. Same with an evaluation of his pg-like skills. You should have seen every game of his during the season and whatever else he's done during the off-season in playing with major talent. At this point there should be no surprises whatsoever.
So why workout players in person at all?
Because everybody else does.
And because you can interview them in a face to face. If you're basing your talent evaluation on a workout, you're in a world of trouble.
I also think they run some "secret" drills to get further information. Seems like we are getting the same light routines from everywhere across the League, but players always talk about tough workouts.Because everybody else does.
