Pre-draft workout schedules (merged)

Mahmoud Abdul Rauf had Tourette's Syndrome as well. He used to say it made him SO OCD that he couldn't leave workouts until hitting 100 straight free throws, so maybe it actually helped him....lol.

Still think there's a LOT of smoke and mirrors in play in the Kings FO, which I like. Keep the other GMs off their thinking, and STILL think it's Burke or MCW coming to SacTown ;)

I really can't get an opinion on Shabazz. It's intriguing, especially if we trade down in the 10/14 range. Even at 7 it could be a gamble a part of me would like to take. Like most people, I really believe his red flags are a little overblown, and I think he'll end up being a better person than people predict right now. He could be the most talented player on the board when we draft, but he is also the most "dangerous" pick, considering our roster. I admit I have not seen a lot of him, but I can see him being a stronger JR Smith kind of player, or a Maggette in the worst case.
If they pick him, I hope it's because they think Tyreke can play PG and they want a scorer and a shooter next to him. Also, in this case, I hope MT is traded. Tyreke and Shabazz at the 1 and 2 could be scary if they click.

Like I said, I can't get a clear opinion on him. He's the biggest question mark of this draft. But, I also believe he could be this years' Harrison Barnes.

Who said McLemore is a top 2 talent? Right now you can safely project him only as C&S shooter and average defender, who is a threat in transition. Not the stuff legends made of.

Ok, first round of Green room invitees: Noel, Oladipo, Porter, Len, Bennett, McLemore, Burke, Carter-Williams, McCollum & Zeller. Obviously in this muddy draft teams will use this tool as well to create smoke screen, but for now this seems like top-10 and it is actually the same as Ford's top-10. Just as a reminder last year Ford's top-10 had only 4 guys in the right places. To be fair 9 out of 10 guys were in fact drafted in top-10.
Ford's report states that general managers from across The Association are polled to see which players are most likely to be taken with lottery picks.

What about Adams, Caldwell-Pope, Schroeder and Adetokunbo? Have these guys been brought in?

Shabazz and MCW have a very high bust potential. And I don't mean relative bust potential. I mean "out of the league" bust potential. Zeller has a very low ceiling. So if you want to have a high certainty of getting a pretty good bench guy, go for Zeller. It's very worrisome to me that Shabazz comes back in for a second visit. He's the perfect stereotype of a workout warrior who looks very good by himself in a workout, but in an NBA game could have major difficulties.

Let's aim for the fences. I'd rather go one out of the Adams, Adetokunbo, Schroeder, Caldwell-Pope group, guys that you can foresee might have legit starting potential in this league. Doesn't Denver have scouting over in Europe? Why haven't Schroeder and Adetokunbo been in for visits?

James Ham said that. But I'll happily go on record and say that McLemore is decidedly not a top-2 talent in this draft.

For the most part I agree and that in itself is amazing. Every player at the top of the draft has a serious hole in his game. I haven't evaluated all of them but Noel is light and I will bet money he doesn't put on 20-30 more pounds. Maybe being light has something to do with the need for ACL surgery in that he can be pushed around. McLemore can't go to his left or create for himself. Len may spend a lot of time on the injured list and believe me or not, a stress fracture bodes poorly for the future. He's not spectacular either although he looks good compared to other people in this draft. Blah, blah. I'm all for swinging for the fences as there are a few guys who, assuming everything works out wonderfully, will be better than any of the top 6 or 7.

It definitely is intriguing! I watched a lot of Kansas games this year and he is an amazing talent. Really does kind of remind me of Dywane Wade, although not near as polished of course. Going into the draft I felt that he was really the only guy that had superstar potential. He has top level athleticism, good handles that have improved, and his shooting stroke is solid. The shots didn't always go in and he was kind of streaky because of that, but the fundamentals are there and I think he can became a great shooter with proper coaching.

On the downside though is I've heard too that the workouts don't seem to be going well and some have questioned his work ethic. The reminder from ElRay a couple posts up about Thomas Robinsion isn't comforting either because similar things were said about his poor workouts.

I guess the question is what are we looking for out of our pick? If we are hoping he becomes a superstar then he needs to have a major role in our system which means a lot of shots and minutes, that may not work well with us because we have a lot of players who are like that, not many who are as talented though. If we just want a guy who can fill certain roles then McLemore probably isn't our guy. I think he could actually work very well with Tyreke in terms of complementary abilities, but there just may not be enough shots for the both of them.

Seems like they announced consensus lottery picks. Now they probably have like 8-10 guys who some GMs believe to be lottery-worthy and got votes. NBA usually pick 3-5 guys depending on consensus: think players who got low number of votes get passed on as far as invites go. That's why you may have 13 invitees while there's 14 lottery picks.

I'm starting to consider the fact that maybe, in this draft, the best thing to do is trade down and get a veteran player along with the pick. Something like #19 and Varejao for our #7 if the Cavs go big with Len or Noel with the first pick, or #15 and Udoh from the Bucks. This draft is really strange, and there's no safe pick, especially in our range. I'm sure the chances to get a better player in the 15/20 range then in the 7/10 are pretty high. I would also be ok with #14 and #21 from the Jazz.
I'm really curious to see what happens on the 27th. I'd bet we won't keep our #7.

Udoh is not a starter. Kings already have 3 bigs to be first or second big off the bench, and might consider to retain Aldrich.
Udoh is a shot blocker, is a better defender than JT and if we are looking for those abilities he would be a nice addition. Then we could pack MT and JT for a SF.

What does "bombed the workout" even mean in this case? Did he forget how to shoot? Can he not speak English? Did he put his shoes on backwards? What does a guy really have to do to fall 7 spots in two weeks after playing a full season's worth of games for a heavily scouted division 1 NCAA team? Supposedly Len and Bennett are moving up the draft board just as fast and they can't workout for anybody. I'm not complaining, I'd love it if McLemore fell to us, it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Sounds like a lot of disinformation is being thrown around as usual.

First, Muhammad will not be a bust. I have no doubt that he'll have a nice NBA career. But he may not be the player your looking for. That doesn't mean another team isn't. From his time at UCLA, this I know. He compete's very hard, and he can score the ball. Those two things alone will keep him in the NBA. Now you may be looking for a player that plays tough defense, and that can spread the floor on offense. At the moment, thats not Muhammad, but that doesn't make him a bust. Williams on the other hand, I think has tremendous bust potential. People say he's a pass first PG. Duh! He has to be, he can't shoot the ball, and his mechanics are horrible. He had a serious problem getting to the basket out of the half court set in college. Does anyone think thats going to get easier in the NBA?

Caldwell-Pope by the way has been impressing folks at his workouts. Wouldn't surprise me to see him go in the top 10. I wouldn't have said that a month ago. Don't understand the interest in Schroeder. Very few have actually seen him play. I've only seen him play once, and he was OK, but I didn't stand up and take notice. He's very quick, but so is Myck Kabongo, who I think is going to surprise people. He got a raw deal from the NCAA which robbed him of half the season at Texas. He can be had in the second round.

As for why some of these players haven't been in for a visit! Well its not that easy in a short period of time that they've had to bring in everyone they would like to see. Our new GM in an interview said he's already seen all the top players several times during the season, so its not like he doesn't know what they can do. Its also possible that more will come in this next week before the draft. One more thing about Muhammad. Coming out of highschool, he was considered the best highschool player in the nation. He may not have lived up to that reputation, but he's certainly not garbage either. It doesn't have to be, he's either great, or he's a bust. There is space in between those two.

very glad that they've invited Adams. actually, Adams and McCollum are the two guys from this draft, Oladipo who I don't see falling this far notwithstanding, I'd most like to see on the Kings. so the fact that McCollum gets to work out for D'Alessandro, too, makes me very happy as well.

Bryan May @BMayNews10 1h

The #NBAKings will host 6 more players in pre-draft workout Mon including Christian Watford (Indiana) & James Southerland (Syracuse)

im glad we are bringing in sutherland, i like him in the second round

I would not be surprised to see Adams as our pick depending on who is on the board. A bit of a stretch for the 7th, and not necessarily my first choice for the selection even though I do like him, I just see him as a player that the staff might like

Adams has tremendous size, GIANT hands, excellent athleticism, and a pretty staggering NBA frame. What scares me are what the scouts say about him, that he's offensively limited, lacks fundamentals, not a great defensive rebounder, and "looks lost like the game is too fast for him," the latter of which is really of concern. If the college game is "too fast" for him, how on earth will he transition to the NBA? I understand he's a long-term project and that you can't teach size, but he sounds like another Spencer Hawes with even LESS of a game.
This being said, this is the first time in the past five or six years I'll actually feel confident that the FO has made the right decision.
