Potential Trade Scenario - ESPN

Found this on espn, thought it was worth sharing. The good thing out of this is it gets ride of KT.

Does Marbury have any trade value?

Trade No. 2

Marbury, Balkman and Randolph Morris to Sacramento for Ron Artest, Kenny Thomas and Shareef Abdur-Rahim

Knicks fans will be wondering why Mike Bibby isn't in this deal, and the answer is this: If and when the Kings trade Bibby, they'll want a heck of a lot more long-term value than an expiring contract. This deal makes sense for Sacramento because it gets them out from under the $17.3 million they owe Thomas for '08-09 and '09-10 and the $12.8 million they owe Abdur-Rahim over those same two seasons. The Knicks like it because they get Artest without having to surrender David Lee.

Marbury is just a big NO-NO for me!

If he was expiring deal, sure, take him on and tough it out for a year before showing him the door but he still has a couple of years left on his deal. On top of that he is a nutter that you wouldn't want around when re-building!

i like this trade. we get space for our young players to play and 2 young forward prospects while getting rid of 3 players. that 20+ million expiring after next season will come in handy if we want to clear capspace or deal it for some high draft picks. i'd pull the trigger on it. 2 of those contracts (SAR and KT are worth crap)

Sheridan is telling me that Isiah Thomas, knowing this is his last chance in the NBA, will get rid of his only experienced PG and hand over the team to Nate Robinson and Mardy Collins?

In the process, he takes on $40 millions worth of garbage, loses Balkman and Morris, and may lose Artest in the summer....

This trade idea is worse than some of those proposed in realgm.

No way. NO WAY. I would actually rather put up with KT and SAR than even THINK of bringing Stephon Marbury to the Kings.

Let me repeat ... NO WAY!!!

i agree that this is a bad trade for the knicks. however, this is isiah thomas here.. he is known for pulling the trigger on big name player trades.

And getting Marbury's contract would be good for the Kings how exactly? This trade sucks big time IMHO...

Marbury is gonna get $47 million over the same period of time we're paying KT and SAR $30 million. That kind of math just DOESN'T add up... at all.

You sure have a point there about Isiah. ;)

In that case, we'll take Stephon and trade him to the Magic - a consolation to them for losing out on getting SAR...

Yup. I guess it's up to dumb GMs to save us now.

I'm glad you used "one" can only hope because I suspect very few Kings fans would actually welcome Stephon Marbury ... at any price.

;)

Actually, SAR and KT combine for around $43 millions. According to hoopshype.

Stephon makes around $42 millions.

The math adds up in our favor when you consider we're also getting balkman and Morris; and get rid of some dead weight.

As for Stephon, he's at least good for providing some comedy around here. And he'll be gone the same summer as Miki Moore. :D

Well a trade like this has it's upside for Sac, but this roumer smells of NY wishes to me. NY dumps a problem child who is NOT performing up to contract and gets our head case who out performs his contract along with 2 big stiff. I would not complain on the face value of the deal as it does not change the cap space out look for the Kings and opens up room for our kids but then again so does buying out SAR and Kenny while letting Ron play and that simple move preserves team ballance and requires no other team to agree to terms.

I didn't check hoopshype, whose salary information is notoriously bad. I used the information from the article itself:

Marbury is only owed for this season and next season. SAR and KT would be owed this season and the next 2 season's.

We would have another true starting pg and rid ourselves of 2 awful contracts and Ron Artest who some don't like here anyway (I like him myself) that aside we get 2 young prospects at the foward positions and like someone said earlier. The contract of Moore and Marbury and Brad come up in the same season. At that time we would have well over 30 million in cap space coming off the books after NEXT season.

We would still have Kevin, Garcia, Salmons, Douby, Hawes.
All this trade does is jumpstart our rebuild by 1 year. Not to mention with Marbury at the helm we could trade Bibby for some young talent we he gets healthy to further jumstart our rebuild.

This is an awesome way to get things going quicker.

The point of this trade from the kings standpoint is not FOR marbury its for our future. If we keep SAR and KT that is 1 more year we have to wait for their salaries to come of the books buyout or not which will then be close to 20 million for that final season combined. We also get a young Morris and Balkman to see if they may have something to add to our future if not there is no loss their. People call Artest a headcase same goes for Marbury so why not trade the 2 off. either way we are rebuilding. One way is after next season the other way its 1 more season after that.

I'll pass on Marbury.

That's not the point. This would be a bit of a coup for Sacto.

Marbury's job is simple in that deal: its a way to shave a year off of the KT and Reef contracts. You could use him, or just buy him out. Not really important. Not about us wanting Marbury. Just want to use his contract.

Meanwhile you preserve the effective so far Kevin/Cisco/Salmons trio, and add in a young defender/hustler (Balkman) and a young C (Morris) to team with Hawes.

Actually, in a perfect world you make it Ron, Kenny and Mikki, and then ship SAR off to Orlando for one of their enders. Would leave Brad as the last long term bad contract running past the summer of '09. And if he plays solidly here, he might actually be moveable. You could actually be ready for the big turn in summer of '09 -- less than two years. Have all your bad contracts gone, young players, likely two more lottery picks (and whatever Mike and Brad brought back), and cap room.

Heres the deal breaker for me...

Marbury isnt the future of the kings and neither are Artest, KT, or SAR... so trading all these fools for eachother is sorta funny

the KEY here is how does this help the kings future...... well sure Marbury is making ALOT of money... but so are SAR, KT, and ARTEST.
its important to remember that Artest is likely gone after this year or even before so oh well. this allows us to use Hawes, Williams, and Watkins more which could really pay off if Williams or Watkins can make themselfs solid players and if Hawes can shine... MORE PLAYING TIME FOR YOUTH

We get more youth is the next part of why i like this deal. I'd much rather have Lee but would gladly take Balkman- a very solid well rounded player that rebounds.... if were looking to run and gun and are looking to play a smaller lineup this guy could be a great addition.

We get a Pick ? who knows but Petrie isnt making anytrade without a picks or picks included, hes really been holding out with making SURE that those are part of any deal.

This doesnt affect the future at all. only opens up youth to play more and gets us more promissing young players that could be key to the future.

anyway just a thought.

That's pretty much the point I'm making.

Well Marbury is certainly a lot closer to what he was than is Shareef. If we even wanted to play him of course. This would be close in structure to what Portland did with Zach Randolph, and they just bought out Steve Francis rather than bother with him.

thats brilliant brick. :) so we move alot of pieces and go young very fast!

SAR, Thomas and Artest for Marbury, Collins and Lee works capwise, according to Real GM. You're trading 2 useless guys for one, getting out from under the cap limitations sooner and get a starting PF, which from what I've seen this season the Kings desperately need.
