Phoenix/LA Clippers deal??

They are in talks that would see Phoenix trade the 15th pick and Barbosa for Maggette and the 7th pick.

This could possibly be a good thing from our perspective. I see the Clippers taking a guard at #7 if they keep the pick, which means a guard could possibly fall to us. More than likely the Suns will be looking to add a big. Thoughts?

I think the Suns, after their failed desperation move to add Shaq, are liable to pull the trigger on any number of trades to change things up... Same is true for the Mavs.

But this deal couldn't happen until after the draft and would be contingent on Maggette not opting out on the 30th. It's not quite so easy to swap draft picks if the picks have already been made. What if Phoenix asks the Clips to pick a player the Clips don't like, then Maggette opts out, nullifying the deal? The Clippers get stuck with a guy they don't like at #7? That's a lot to risk over Leandro Barbosa.

If this is going to go down, then Maggette must choose not to opt out BEFORE the draft, therefore making it possible to happen on draft night. I doubt this goes down, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did either

So the Clippers trade away the better player AND the better pick?

Yep, that would be the Clippers. ;)

Barbosa's value is quite overrated. There's something to be said about striking when the iron is hot--Barbosa was scintillatingly hot when he came out of nowhere 3-4 years ago. Now that he's a known entity and sort of stabilized as a 15-20 ppg scorer for a high octane scoring team, I think he's sort of figured out. Anyhow, his value definitely isn't worth Corey Maggette's--guy is a near all-star and has put up 20 ppg with the Clippers despite their losing ways. And losing the better draft pick? Wow.

Andy Katz said in a chat that the Clippers say this isn't happening.

Even the Clippers aren't this dumb.

Indeed. Get rid of Nash. Get rid of Amare. I mean, tear it all down, trade everybody, and feature Grant Hill.
