petrie is not stupid

if ur a true kings fan u know that at the state we are in now we will not go past the 2nd round.this team will not be the same by the time the trade deadline ends.now jackson is out for 3 months we just have to get a consistent scorer better than chrisitie.somethings got to happen right now.

Petrie may not be stupid, but he is restricted by finances. The salary and talent structure of our team just makes it very difficult to pick up a significant player this year without shipping out one or more core guys. And even if we could, ouor core is both our strength and our weakness. We have 6 major minute guys, and somebody added in on top of them will have trouble getting enough minutes to make a significant impact.

Oh, hell yeah, this needed to be said! I knew it was important when I read, "If ur a true Kings fan, u know...". Keep on rockin, cwebb84!

I am a "true King fan," as are most of the people who post on this site (with the notable exception of some Laker fans, the occasional Mavericks fan, a Sonic fan, etc.)

I don't get your point and I don't agree that we need any more scorers. What we need, IMHO, are for the scorers we already have to be consistent. We desperately need some more DEFENSE.

Bricklayer posted a very good assessment of our defensive grades and they're worth reading and thinking about. If this team doesn't make it out of the second round, it won't be because we can't score baskets. It will be because the other team has been able to score more on a consistent basis.

If (conclusion), then you know (false assumption).

Either they will make it past the 2nd round, or they won't. Since it's a 3 month injury, Jackson should be back with plenty of time to get prepared for the post season. And Christie? What do you think will happen when you trade the strongest defender off an already questionable defensive team?

The same thing happens every year. Someone gets hurt, and all the Chicken Littles come out of the woodwork. Sometimes it's really as bad as it seems, but more often than not, someone picks up the slack.

Would be nice to have more depth, but barring a miracle situation, there's no good reason to risk the financial future for what would still be an uncertain present.

All true...but I think that it needs to be pointed out that the last time the team took a gamble, financially, we were one game and a few free throws away from the NBA Finals...so I think that money should be no option if you want to win the only thing that should matter...an NBA Title...for the owners, team, and most of all, US as fans who have gave so much to this team over the years! Does anyone know how special an NBA Title would be to us as SACRAMENTANS! Think about it Kings fans...think about it.

a defender who could score would be PERFECT :)

it's too bad artest is crazy, his NBA talent would be a great fit for this team IMO, it's too bad he's such a distraction and a nutcase.

i'm hoping for some petrie magic this holiday season :)

GO KINGS!!!!!!!

A defender who can score? How bout this trade: Peja for Kirilenko...straight up. I wonder if the jazz would even be interested in that at all.

Was a thought once upon a time, but I doubt it is still out there anymore. Seriously.

Of the star level defensive players at SF, think they are probably all off the market now for Peja. Artest of course went nutso and is gone, Marion must be totally off the market now with their success, and Kirilenko signed the mega-extension and I think has become firmly established as their franchise building block. I can't think of any other elite level SF defender that you could trade Peja for without giving up enormous amounts of offense in the process.

I agree with Brick. I hope Peja improves his D....That's part of my Christmas wish list. *Sigh*

Guess what, in NBA 2005, I needed a sub for Peja so I traded Martin for Jermaine O'Neal...trade was accepted. Hahaha. I hope things were are easy in real life. Sucks that the jersey for the Kings became 7 instead of 16 though.

Oh well....as we've been saying ever since: In Petrie we trust.

I appreciate your passion, but unless there's actually someone affordable worth looking at, it's not really going to accomplish anything. Who did you have in mind picking up?

Well, lets see.
Darius subs for CWebb and sometimes for Brad with CWebb. A good journeyman role player, hustles, bangs, has mid-range jumper.

Evans now subs for Christie and has shown flashes of awesome. Need to see what consistency he brings and how good a defender he can be.

Tag in for Brad. Getting to be a better sub when opponent has big man at center. Poor hands leaves him out of getting more assisted baskets near the bucket.

Then there is ahhh, ummm, errr..arrrggghhh..... Barnes, well sorta. Daniels and Martin haven't had a productive minute in a game yet. Daniels is a great ball handler and rebounder. When does he not get some minutes? Martin, the toothpick, needs more muscle, more bulk to be able to take the pounding.

So the missing link is a 6-10+ guy who can defend and make 5-10 pts a night. Who can sub for both CWebb and Brad and run with Darius when the other team is smaller.

Note: I see Courtney Alexander still shown on official Kings roster as on IL. I thought he was gone? If not what is his story?

So, once again, it comes down to how easy it is for some people to tell the Maloofs to spend MORE money. You may think money should be no option if you want to win "the only thing that should matter" but that's simply not realistic (unless, of course, your name is George Steinbrenner but that's an entirely different rant for a different forum).

The last time the team took a gamble they still didn't win so, bottom line, you can't assume that more money equals more success...especially not with a team that already has spent A LOT of money to get us to this level.

Of course we as fans want a title. It would be suh-weeeeeeeet! Ask any Boston Red Sox, fan, however, if they quit rooting for their team because they just couldn't reach that last plateau and I think you'll hear a resounding NO!! It's not just about the end result. There's a lot to be enjoyed and cherished by the journey along the way...

CD - I like you but I have to ask...Are you watching the games?!?!?!?

Tag's "poor hands" have been doing a fair amount of passing ESPECIALLY since he is now pretty much recovered from the broken hand he suffered in the off-season. Sure, he's not ever gonna be the best passing big man in the league but to say his poor hands are a current and major problem is IMHO simply incorrect.

Interesting you bring up the Red Sox, since their management got torched for not spending the money to get A-Rod at the beginning of the year.

Here is a question would you trade Bobby for Marko Jaric and a conditional pick? This might be a possiblity if the Clippers were not going to resign Marko this off season and that they needed a person to fill in for cheap at PG for another couple of years until Saun Livingston is ready. I think if this was offered at trading deadline I think Petrie would bite. But it would also depends on how the team is playing at time.
