I think your point is relevant! The Warriors will be pushing up against the luxury tax, and PDA did say that he'd love to have Thompson. One assumes that he's looking at the same thing were looking at and that possibly something has to give. It'll all come down to the Warriors brain trust. I think they believe they have a chance at winning the championship this year, and to be honest, I think they have just as good a chance as any other team in the western division. If they come close this year, I doubt they do much in the way of breaking up what they have, even if they have to pay a little luxury tax. I looked at their salary situation, and here's what I found.
Going into the 2015/16 season, barring any trades etc next season, and based on all committed salaries, and them picking up the team option salaries they should be at $61,423,848.00 in salaries. That would include the following players.
Bogut
Lee
Iguodala
Curry
Speights - Player option
Barnes - Team option
Ezeli - Team option
Nedovic - Team optiion
That leaves them Thompson, and Green as the two most important players that are up for qualifying offers. The luxury tax for this year is set at $71,748,000.00 which would give them around a 10 mil to play with before getting into the luxury tax. However, were not talking about this year, and next season the luxury tax is projected to be close to $74 million, so one has to assume that in the 2015/16 season it will go up even more. If so, they just might be able resign Thompson and Green and still stay under the tax, or maybe slightly over. In any event, they just might be able to keep the current team in tack for a little longer.
