PDA's long term target said to be Klay Thompson?

I think Ken Berger is pretty good, so I'll assume there is some level of truth to it. I mean, Malone knows Klay, and we only like players from Denver or GS, so ...

Truth is, Klay is likely available either now or in the offseason. They extended Bogut. Signed Iggy. Lee is still on the books. They have Barnes as a logical replacement. A lot of their money is tied up, and they likely won't be able to match a Klay offer when that time comes.

Something around Ben / Klay makes some sense.

I like Klay Thompson a lot....

Andre Miller? Not so much....

Miller is obviously just a patch if we get him. Fix the big hole we have there. Maybe even two holes as I could see us spending time with he and Isaiah out there rather than wasting minutes on our putative "shooting" guards. Remember who our GM is and where he came from. Miller/IT must look to him a lot like Miller/Lawson.

I'm assuming Berger is throwing stuff against the wall and won't put too much validity into this.. Not a big Thompson guy for what he will cost vrs how he impacts

The Warriors have Klay cheap for this year and next year. I'm really not sure how we could entice them to give him up. The way things are going, they're going to get two playoff runs with the team as currently constructed before they even have to worry about giving up some more money for Klay. Even then, they're looking at being in the low-$60Ms with only one year left on Lee's contract (if they can't jettison it before then) in '15-'16. Then '16-'17 is the last year for their other big-three contracts (Curry, Iggy, Bogut).

So they can take a two-year shot with Klay now. Then in '15-'16 pony up to the tax (say up to 4/$40M) to keep him. In '16-'17 they clear $15.5M when Lee walks, though they might want to pony up one more year to hold on to Barnes depending on how he works out (right now I wouldn't assume he gets close to $10M/year). Then in '17-'18 Bogut and Iggy (both too old to keep around) come off the books, they extend Curry again ($$$), and their core is a veteran Curry/Klay/(Barnes?) which will cost $30M tops, whatever cookies they've picked up here and there, and a ton of cap space to build a front line.

Unless they're really trying to shake things up, I don't see it. We could give them Ben straight up, but he's not ready and he may never be better than Klay anyway. That's not a good deal for them. Cousins is out of the question. Gay is supremely expensive. IT is superfluous for them, though I suppose a three-team trade could develop that would make sense for them. Nothing else we have is remotely enticing.

well, ben mclemore strikes me as the kind of player who's ceiling is no higher than a klay thompson type of talent, so i'd certainly prefer the immediacy of the real thing to the struggles of a rookie who may never reach those heights...

but why would the warriors trade thompson to the kings? even if he's PDA's "long-term target," what could we possibly offer them? isaiah thomas, i suppose, if the warriors' brass is wary of the 38 mpg that mark jackson plays stephen "glass ankles" curry. golden state has struggled a bit to keep up with expectations in a tough western conference, but they're still firmly a playoff team, and they've got enough depth everywhere on the roster that i have to believe none of our other spare parts would be terribly appealing to them, unless they're really turned on by mclemore's athleticism... and his 37% shooting from the field...

of course, the phrase "long-term target" also seems to insinuate that PDA intends to use cap space in '15 to pry klay thompson away from the warriors. but thompson will be a restricted free agent at that time, and the warriors will likely still be contending in the west, so i would think they'd be inclined to match. dunno what to make of this little note, except that, if i were PDA, i'd be hoping and praying that i didn't waste a top-10 draft pick on ben mclemore...

Klay is a big time player. Pure shooter, has the size, scores at the rim and plays GREAT defense.

When he's restricted, I wouldn't think twice about offering him a max deal.

He's a star waiting to be born IMO.

Doubt Dubs let him go though....

I loved this dude coming out.

The Dubs will Match in all likelyhood which is why i be alive it's kinda a smoke screen to pry away another player off their roster or force their hand in another deal.

I don't think that was read correctly.

1) Kings swinging at fences in trades

2) D'Allesandro targeting Klay longterm

But I don't think those concepts were necessarily linked. In fact I see no viable possibility the Warriors suddenly magically decide to trade a 20ppg Klay Thompson on a dirt cheap contract to us. That's almost as farfetched as saying we're going to trade for LeBron. now what the artile MAY be implying is that when all our contracts end after next season PDA would like to take that money and throw it at Klay. That's possible. But that's 2 summers off. A lot can happen in two summers, and I guarantee you we aren't just going to sit around leaving a gaping hole in our lineup for two years in the eventual hope that maybe we can sign a restricted free agent if the other team decided not to match.

I read earlier today that the Warriors are going after Lowry. You can probably find some way to tie that into this talk.

Give a 2016 2nd rounder for Miller; he'd be nice for the remainder of the season playing some minutes so IT won't have to play so many, and he can teach IT some things. If they want Jimmer, fine.

The Klay Thompson thing is a pipe dream.

Yet another scorer?! Woot!!!!

At some point we need to start addressing the big white elephant in the room....DEFENSE!!!

We simply cannot have Cousins, Gay, IT and Thompson in the same line up. Just not enough shots to go around and no defense. The only way Klay works is if you PG is Rondo! All defense team member, play maker and not a hungry shot taker!

I would be much happier if the article said that PDA's long term target is Andre Drummond, or John Henson or someone like that. Another shot hungry player with suspect D is the very last thing we need!

It makes no sense does it? Does he REALLY talk to Malone? Does he listen to the post game interviews of Malone? Boiled down simply, Malone wants a better defense.

I'd rather have Klay>Ben all day. He's even a better defender...that would be the 1st step. I'd try to offer Ben and Williams for Klay and Festus.

I again have to urge everyone to look at the rumorS. Plural. Nowhere did it say we were looking at Klay Thompson today, this season. And really kind of stretching it to say years down the road...unless you are talking about LeBron or somebody.

Two things... I wonder what "swinging for the fences" means here? Rudy Gay was a swinging for the fences type of deal... don't see another one of those coming this year with our current roster/cap situation but who knows?

Klay is a beast... he's a stud defender, everytime I watch the Warriors he's on the other teams best guard, often the point to make up for Curry's lack of d. Would be huge next to IT. Offensively he's exactly what we want from our two guard... a catch and shoot three point specialist. His height really helps him there, Reggie Miller like in that regard. So the appeal is logical... getting there is a different story altogether though.

I wouldnt mind Klay at all. As has been mentioned, he's pretty much the player our FO is praying Ben can become. Lights out shooter who can D up. Would be an excellent 3rd option to the Cousins/Gay duo (assuming they are kept together).

We couldnt keep IT as a starter though. Starting PG and PF would have to be "defend, move the ball, and get the **** outta the way" type role players. There just wouldnt be enough shots.

Klay would be a significant upgrade. The issue is our system. He'll if you can get a pass first PG who plays solid D then having Klay, Rudy and Boogie is brilliant

Rondo for Ben Mac, Jimmer, JT, and IT

I would like to revisit this thread. With golden states recent addition of two more SG. And the fact they have a decision coming up for bogut. That decision could be another 10 mil a year contract. That will be over 50 mil for four players. The next decision would be Klay. Can they afford another one? And fill out a roster?

what decision? Bogut has already been extended.

Oh well in that case 12 to bogut 15 to lee 12 to AI and almost 11 to steph. 50 mil then another 16 mil wrapped in 6 players. So GS at 66 million next year with only 10 players and the next season klay will be looking for 8 mil starting contract. I think klay could be had
