The dedicated Kings fans, the younger core of players, and Cousins deserve better than what management has offered so far. And Corbin deserved better than coaching the past few weeks, knowing full well D’Alessandro and owner
Vivek Ranadive were not going to keep their promise of retaining him for the season.
Now the 16-year NBA veteran and one of the league’s real gentlemen is out of work. So Corbin will be paid the remaining money on his contract for the rest of the season — at least the Kings will do that — before searching for a new coaching position this summer.
The coaching business is cut-throat and there are protocols of respect to follow;
openly campaigning for jobs that are filled, and publicly negotiating with another candidate while your current coach is attempting to win games and maintain organizational sanity is deplorable.
Corbin deserved better, and hopefully D’Alessandro and Ranadive learn from their mistakes. If not, the Kings will remain, well, the Kings.
