PDA

Wasn't Karl available last summer? I'm a little nervous that Vivek and PDA have similar view points.

Well the fact that Karl was available last summer, and at the time of the Malone firing makes it pretty clear he was not their first choice. I doubt we will ever find out who if anyone either or both of these guys had in mind, but to me it seems pretty clear that who ever it was either was not available until summer or bailed on them. The Karl was just so obvious, and the pressure to do SOMETHING was too great.

PDA quoted in Voisin's most recent article.

This front office is fishy (surprise) ... still wondering why PDA spouts this information (Karl has been available for quite some time) knowing that the front office's actions don't coincide.

If you want to be trusted -- stopping lying would be a good start.

Yes Pete, you always wanted George Karl, Vivek is thrilled, George was publicly lobbying for the job from the moment you backstabbed Malone...but somehow it took months before you seriously opened negotiations with him.

Makes sense to me.

P.S. but given the apparent instinctual dishonesty -- hey, when you list politician as a positive trait it makes sense -- how about if you want to be trusted, at least be a GOOD liar. Figure out what we know, construct a remotely plausible story that meshes with it.

I have a feeling he will be with us for quite awhile. This will hold us back but it is difficult to say how much. He can bumble around with his trades and maybe miss some one that a more astute GM would have gotten (Whiteside) but at least we have Boogie and Rudy.

He has an immense trouble with the truth doesn't he? That little trait of his can't be helpful in negotiating with other GMs or with FAs.

Well if he was at least a GOOD liar there could be some use to it.

Call up the Cavs and say "I'm so sorry to hear about LeBron's degnerative knee condition he was talking to his family about over All Star weekend. Be a bummer to be caught on the hook for that salary for all those years while he was saying he probably wouldn't be able to play more than 10-15 games max. But listen, you know my owner, Vivek is impatient and kinda basketball ignorant, he wants to make a splash at all costs, and I suppose it MIGHT be possible for me to talk him into saving you from that salary, maybe. Maybe you could give us a pick and I could help sell it to him that way. Vivek does love to draft guys."

Let's be honest, since PDA seems incapable.

On Malone when PDA was hired.

"Above all else, the new GM said he's "looking for people who take their jobs seriously." He also made it clear that Malone, a longtime NBA assistant who spent the past two seasons with Golden State, would have been his choice for coach."-ESPN

When Ty became coach.

"Tyrone Corbin need not look over his shoulder, this season at least. “We’re behind Ty," Kings GM Pete D’Alessandro said in a radio interview on KHTK Monday morning. "Tyrone Corbin is our coach for the rest of the year." CSNBayArea.com - See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors/tag/pete_d'alessandro#sthash.NKAmIp5y.dpuf

And now this nonsense about how Karl was his guy all along.

Sure Petey.

More thoughts on this entire process from the outside, this time Boston.

The dedicated Kings fans, the younger core of players, and Cousins deserve better than what management has offered so far. And Corbin deserved better than coaching the past few weeks, knowing full well D’Alessandro and owner Vivek Ranadive were not going to keep their promise of retaining him for the season.

Now the 16-year NBA veteran and one of the league’s real gentlemen is out of work. So Corbin will be paid the remaining money on his contract for the rest of the season — at least the Kings will do that — before searching for a new coaching position this summer.

The coaching business is cut-throat and there are protocols of respect to follow; openly campaigning for jobs that are filled, and publicly negotiating with another candidate while your current coach is attempting to win games and maintain organizational sanity is deplorable.

Corbin deserved better, and hopefully D’Alessandro and Ranadive learn from their mistakes. If not, the Kings will remain, well, the Kings.

I'm surprised they didn't do a press conference on the hire? Seems that most teams do, right? I think they want to keep the Q&A sessions to a minimum... as they quite easily contradict themselves on every interview they give.

The press conference will be tomorrow.

It's hard for me to like PDA. There's one particular thing that I just can't seem to get past - he's a major suckup. He oozed it from Day 1 when he talked about 2.0 and 3.0 and didn't even know what the hell he was talking about. He oozed it when he told us all that he really did know what he was doing. He oozes it every time I hear him talk. Given an owner with meddlesome tendencies, the last thing this team needs is a GM that doesn't have the balls to stand up to him, but would rather placate and defer in order to enhance his standing in the organization.
