Paul George

Am I alone in thinking that George would be an ideal fit next to Tyreke?

He has clearly stated that he wants to play SG and he has the shooting and ballhandling to do so.

Best of all, he would prevent teams from switching their off-guard onto Tyreke on the defensive end because George has the ability to take a smaller man on the block and scoring.

I'm not necessarily advocating taking him at #5, though if Favors and Cousins (and Turner and Wall) are off the board I'd be much more okay with Petrie reaching for him or taking Johnson than drafting Monroe.

But if he's still on the board outside of the top 10 or so I would love to see Geoff be aggressive (you'd think for ONCE he would be on draft night) and trade for a second pick to nab him.

A starting backcourt of 6'6" and 6'9" would be a matchup problem EVERY night and their games compliment one another very well.

To me an ideal draft night would be Cousins at #5 and a trade for the ability to pick George. I'd give up a future first and another piece, though obviously it would depend on what that piece was.

I'm also intrigued by the recent Paul George hype, but he is not worthy of being picked so early. I would definitely consider giving up a future 1st or Omri, but nothing too substantial. Donte has already played SG last season, and I still believe in his potential.

I like Donte but at the 3 and sometimes as a stretch 4. He just isn't a natural enough ballhandler to pair with Tyreke in the backcourt.

To me, the advantage the Kings have in trades is capspace. They aren't going to use theirs to entice a marquee free agent, but they can take back worse salaries in trades to provide financial/caproom relief for teams while skewing a deal (talentwise) in their favor.

In that vein a deal for a future 1st and Cisco for a slightly worse contract and a pick in the late lottery to get George makes a lot of sense.

He's a nice high risk high reward pick to take in the middle of the draft. Way too risky in the top 10.

Just curious: what about him makes him a risky pick at his current stock (mid-first round)? From what I've seen and read of him, he seems to be surprisingly polished for someone with his athleticism and size. I'm extremely intrigued at the idea of starting him at the 2. I agree that reaching for him in the lottery is not the best use of our pick, but back to the original question: what's not to love about him later in the first?

I've read a couple of reports saying he is probably the biggest sleeper in this draft.

could be a real nice pick up for someone...

Apparently Minny is offering the #16, #23 and Jefferson to the Pistons for #7, Prince and Wilcox so they can pick George at 7

As far as IQ, fundamentals, and shot creating goes, he's still pretty raw. Many are concerned about him not really lighting it up in college despite playing in a poor competition. He has a ton of tools though.

He's not that risky as a mid to late first. The higher in the lottery he goes, he becomes more of a risky pick though.

They wouldn't be bad in Minny's case. They get a an athletic wing that can shoot and has really high upside, and a very good big prospect. If they get Favors at 4, then they have greatly improved their team's athleticism.

Rubio
George
Brewer
Love
Favors

Very solid frontcourt of the future, and they'll have a lot of extra pieces (Flynn, Sessions, Pekovic, and all of their other picks) to move for another perimeter scorer. Of course they have to lock down Rubio first.

I'll be surprised if George is a lottery pick. I like George, but I agree with you, he's a mid to late first round pick. I'd take Babbitt over him in a heart beat. Babbitt is a better shooter/scorer, and a better ballhandler than George, which is one reason I don't think George can play SG, despite what he might think.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's a lottery pick and I can't argue against him in the late lottery because he does have tremendous tools and a very high upside. Whether I take Babbit over him or not, it depends a lot on whose roster we're talking about.

George fits well next to Tyreke, because he adds length and roaming defense to our squad and hits the three pointer at a good clip. He's very likely to reach his upside of Trevor Ariza, I believe, but that's the extent of it. As stated, he's probably a late lotto/mid 1st type--he's more specialist than star player, based on his body of work in college.
