Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Been a lot of signings going on, and a lot of them with possible bearing on the Kings trade prospects, thought I'd collect a lot of them in one spot:

Opportunities closed:

1) Reef to Chicago -- first they add Noah, then they add Joe Smith. They either had no interest in Reef, or we were asking too much (or are still in manlove with him). In any case, this logical fit appears to no longer be viable (or a logical fit).

2) Bibby or Brad to Memphis -- longshots anyway, but Memphis managed to add both a young PG (Conley) and a young center (Darko) in one offseason. Nice haul, and closes those needs.

3) Brad to New Jersey -- seemed remotely possible for some of their low level stuff, but they just added Magloire on the cheap, so seems unlikely now.

4) Bibby to Milwaulkee, potentially as part of a Yi package -- this one was only available if Mo Williams moved on (maybe to Miami). He resiggned, so obviously not.

5) Any of our bigs or PGs to Houston -- sounded lie the Maloofs may have scuttled those talks anyway, but the Rockets are loading up with Luis Scola, Mike James, Aaron Brooks, Jackie Butler and the return of Bonzi all in one offseason. Doubt they are still looking for a major, and expensive score.

6) Bibby to the Lakers -- always a longshot at best anyway, wiht fisher in town highly unlikely.

7) Artest to Clippers -- with Maggette still in town, and apparently a favorite of the owner, and Al Thorton drafted, see little possibility of this still being open.

Opportunities Still Open:

1) Bibby to Cleveland -- and we were apparently talking again. And somehow apparently things fell apart again. But they still need a PG, we still have one.

2) Bibby or Artest to Miami -- Miami is still looking for a big score to get back into contention, we still have the goods and have apparently talked.

3) Artest to Lakers -- still remotely possible if the Lakers cannot score anybody else and get desperate. Maloofs may scuttle this one too though.

4) Miller to Orlando -- I suggested this just recently with them losing Darko. Have a need up front now and multiple ending contracts attached to insignificant players laying around.

5) Bibby to Clippers -- they still are really hurting at PG, and Bibby and cassel are practically clones.

6) Artest to New York -- who knows? So much hype. Won't happen if all they offer is garbage, and I remain unconvinced that Zeke really WANTS it to happen.

7) Bibby or Brad to Boston -- they just acquired Ray Allen, and have a big expiring contraact sitting around in Theo Ratliff as well as all kinds of kids. Once they become convinced they cannot get Garnett or O'Neal, adding another major vet might get on the menu, and it would be a Pg ro C most likely with OG (Allen), SF (Pierce) and PF (Jefferson) taken care of.

Boston, for me, is the most obvious. They have put themselves in a win now or else mode and could really use a Brad or a Bibby.

I wouldnt mind shipping Bibby to Miami, its one of the few ideas im still down with, i know we wouldnt get much but it just seems right at this point.

The clippers are on the verge of signing Francis I think so that would rule out Bibby. I would think Miami is the best spot for Bibby since they must be really desperate for a PG by now since both Blake and Mo Williams are off the market.

Nothing to add to this, but I just wanted to say Brick that this is a really nice post.

Actually, could you sticky this and maybe update it as new things develop? It's a pretty cool thing to have around.

Good article. Makes sense.

One of the best passing big's, great outside shooter and >80% FT shooter, Brad fills in needs on 2-3 teams. Quiet, never a problem, can use his big body down low, tho' not as much as everyone would like. His high post game is one of the best in the league.

Now who has 2 great guards and/or 1 guard/1 SF who love to slash to bucket??? who is in East? quite a few actually. Maybe even Charlotte. Miami for sure, Boston, etc.

Good post, Brick.

Nothing to add except I guess Artest is probably off the block until February, when Petrie hopes some team gets desperate. Of course, by February that team might be US, but that's another story.

Regarding Bibby, it seems like the addition of Miki means that we have to unload SAR/KT to get a big back in a trade. (Petrie - Good luck with that.) Frankly, right now I'm looking at the table and all the food looks like it is infested with mold and worms. Nothing looks good.

My thought would be the opposite, that we'll want to trade someone like SAR for an expiring -- ANY expiring -- or a youngish PG. But an expiring would be fine. That would give us some cap room next year, making a good extension for Kevin a possibility. That would also help us to suck our way into the '07-'08 lottery, where we could find that young PG on our own.

What is Cleveland waiting for?

2) Bibby or Artest to Miami -- Miami is still looking for a big score to get back into contention, we still have the goods and have apparently talked. Just not sure anything gets done without a 3rd team involved...Milwaukee?

3) Artest to Lakers -- still remotely possible if the Lakers cannot score anybody else and get desperate. Maloofs may scuttle this one too though.
I can see this happening with Artest or Bibby...I do kind of like Crittendon over there.

4) Miller to Orlando -- I suggested this just recently with them losing Darko. Have a need up front now and multiple ending contracts attached to insignificant players laying around. This one makes sense for both teams I think...seems like there is a trade in there.

5) Bibby to Clippers -- they still are really hurting at PG, and Bibby and cassel are practically clones. What could the Clips offer back? Thornton and...?

6) Artest to New York -- who knows? So much hype. Won't happen if all they offer is garbage, and I remain unconvinced that Zeke really WANTS it to happen. I think he has absolutely killed any chance of a deal by talking in the papers. He won't talk Balkman or Lee for a deal with Artest....reeeediculous!

Now this is interesting. Boston has lots of young talent I wouldn't mind seeing in purple/black. Adding a guy like Miller, who ould pass to Pierce and Allen makes sense. Jefferson eats the boards so Miller doesn't have to.

A real good post mentioning all the dwindling possibilities. I wonder if Atlanta would be interested in a veteran PG like Bibby instead of the young Acie Law.

By February he can be wearing an orange jumpsuit.

Just an off-topic aside to Dude12: our board software is somewhat limited -- as you can see above, when I reply with "quote," it doesn't include any material that was within a quote in the original post. So there is little chance that anyone will reply to comments you make within a quote block. Thought you'd want to know.

You could be right. I was mainly thinking about the possible Cleveland deal. I haven't heard any specific deal that would involve Bibby for a young pg. I doubt they trade Bibby just for expiring contracts.

Well that was a low blow man...

No, actually it isn't. I'm pointing out that the guy is completely unpredictable and it's unnecessary risk to wait until February to trade him, by then it could be too late. This is the same thing I said at the deadline when we should have traded him, we didn't and then look what happened.
