Olowokandi Tasered

He must have been hammered. Why would anyone want to stay in a place that is closed. Its not like he was going to find any action. I take that back, he did find find action.

Seriously, is there even a question that the Kandi-man is the worst draft pick ever? I heard this report on ESPN news and I wasn't that shocked. You know your reputation sucks when you can't shock the general public after getting tasered at a bar.

I wonder how often players go out the night before a game and drink and stay out late.
Funny you mention that. My dad and I were in Vegas 10 years back and we saw Sir Charles drinking and gambling the night before the Suns played the Lakers. We thought, "hey, let's put some money down on the Lakers. There's no way Charles is going to have energy for the game after tonight." Funny thing, he scored 32 points and grabbed 13 boards in the Suns victory. Some guys can stay up all night I guess.

Kandi-man's up there, but there have been a few who have been worse. Heck, we drafted a contender ourselves once upon a time! :p

P.S. I must admit though I have developed a sincere appreciation for Kandi-Man these last few years -- not only did we avoid taking him as a FA despite calls for us to do so, but he ended up signing a big deal with a major rival and should be sittig there messing up their cap for years. Jolly good show old boy! ;)

Wait, wasn't Joe Smith #1 pick as well? I think he's worse than Olowokandi.
How do you come by that assessment? Olowokandi's career high for PPG in a season isn't even as high as Joe Smith's career average. Smith is a better offensive player in every aspect, and is also a better offensive rebounder, despite being almost three inches shorter.

Yeah, you're probably right. I always saw Smith as a pretty big disappointment, but looking at his stats now, he seems like a decent player.

Well, Joe sucks too and was a terrble #1. Its just when we are talking about Kandiman there's suck and then there's SUCK. ;)

A lot of players like Smith get a bad rap, just based on the reputations that they had in college. Laettner is one of the biggest examples of this: people talk about this guy as if he's garbage, despite the fact that he averaged a solid 13.2 pts and 6.9 rebs for his career and maintained a very respectable 17.2 and 8.2 through the first five years of his career, before he started to become succeptible to injuries.

Joe Smith was a terrible #1, but he doesn't "suck." He's a career starter, whose career numbers compare favorably to players like PJ Brown and Lorenzen Wright, and reasonably well against players like Rasheed Wallace, and hardly anyone ever says that they suck. I feel fairly certain that, had Smith not been taken as the number one overall pick, people wouldn't be nearly as critical about him as they are.

As do I -- his draft spot is the anvil around his ankle the same way that contract was Juwann Howard's. But he's nowhere even remotely the player that PJ or Sheed are, whatever the numbers say. Lorenzen Wright? Well, sure perhaps. If he really wants to be compared to him (Smith is smoother I think).

Anyway, he's a perfectly acceptable rotation bench player -- starts for bad teams without real starters, 6th/7th/8th man ona good team. If we had him instead of Darius I wouldn't blink (as opposed to having him as a starter when I would assume we were lottery bound). But he doesn't do anything of note particularly well. Just a modestly talented softie forward with pretty good, but not great, all around skills. Not a defender. Not a post player. Just a body.

I think that the perception of Rasheed being a borderline "great" player is subjective; I've always felt that he was one of the most overrated players in the history of the league. And as far as PJ Brown goes, you're going to have to sell me on that: I watch a fair amount of basketball, and I just don't see the argument that he's better than Smith.

You realize, of course, that Smith has been on playoff teams for more than half his career, and still managed to put up solid numbers as a starter?

Two words: Kevin Garnett. He took his teams to the playoffs with Sam Mitchell startiing next to him. And the teams Smith have been on have been borderline playoff teams at best.

PJ is a MUCH better player than Smith, because he actually does something well -- excellent defender. Also a smart player. Makes few mistakes.

Sheed is also a much better player (although yes he's vastly overrated). He's a much better defender, and a much better scorer both inside and outside.
