NFL 2023-2024 Thread

The only thing I'm worried about this season with the Niners is that they're off to such a goostart that the players, the front office, and the fans are already starting to adopt that "Super Bowl or bust mentality". I think that mentality is a good thing to have close to the playoffs when the players are already battered and tested and confidence can be the difference in advancing or not but in Week 5 there's way too much that can go wrong to start looking past the next game.

Yes, why I keep writing Shanahan has got to ramp up mixing in his 2nd and 3rds with his 1sts. Look down the depth charts and every playier should be given more playing time even in the 1st half....main units should only have to play if a deficit occurs. Shanahan must protect his top 10 or 12 players from injurires. Bring in Darnold, Pryce, Bell, Dwelly, Olinemen, Dlinemen secondary. Gregory to get his feet wet this game.

The team lost 3/20 quarters for a grand total 13 points, that's closer to a FG than a TD. The Rams are the only team to lead the 49ers for any amount of actual game time, and it was less than 1 quarter of play..

Luckily Cleveland forecast now has chance of rain dropping to 25%

I think part of that mentality stems from seeing how close we were last year to punching a Super Bowl rematch against the Chiefs. We were the hottest team in the league that had "under dog movie script" written all over it. But the way our season ended left such a sour taste in everyone's mouth including non-9er fans. If Purdy was healthy and we lost by 3pts or 30pts, everyone would've just accepted defeat and just moved onto the next season. But the fact that we didn't even have a chance to compete was absolutely devastating. I think this year's 9er team is playing with with a lot of desire to resume where they left off of because they were robbed of the opportunity to compete.

Through 5 weeks, we've looked just THAT much better than every opponent. Who knows, maybe we've just played really bad teams, but this year feels special. It seems like everyone is completely on the same page from FO to players. All of the guys have bought into winning a Super Bowl this year. Whether it's through unselfishness (Deebo/Aiyuk/Kittle understanding that they won't have big games every week), or 7th round/undrafted young players like Ronnie Bell and JP Mason stepping in to fill big role when called upon. Everyone has been contributing to these wins from all 3 facets: offense, defense, and special teams. Outside of kick offs, we haven't had a real weakness anywhere. Expectations are sky high because the 9ers have set a standard from top down.

The only thing stopping us are injuries. 5 games into the season might be a bit premature to dial up the Super Bowl, but the truly great teams will answer the call.

Oh yes, it was sour enough that I actually rooted for the Chiefs (whom I detest) in the Superbowl - that wreckless-azz hit by Reddick really irked me - just a half-step down from lunging at a knee - the Smeagles are now in the cellar. Every single game agaisnt. Their defense doesn look as good.......they can be beaten with a great offensive showing. They will get a nice streak of Dophins, Commanders, Cowboys, Chiefs, Bills, 49ers, Cowboys, Seahawks....rest assured they will not come out of that gauntlet unblemished - I see at least 2 losses maybe 3 or 4 if unlucky.

NBC outght to begin swapping in better evening games to start soon. This week, No one but Giants fans want to watch the train-wreck Giants, the 2nd or 3rd worst team in the league.

I wish Kelce was like 20% suckier just so we didn’t have to see the camera cut to Taylor Swift so damn much.

I didn't watch the game because I REFUSE to watch Thursday night games that are now on Amazon Prime (I'm not a huge fan of streaming). With that being said, if the camera work was anything like the Sunday night game a couple of weeks ago, I am glad I didn't watch the game. It was almost as if the commentators were more excited that a sub-par, and extremely overrated, wannabe pop star was at the game than they were for the actual game itself. It was extremely painful to watch.

I mean, even the "fine folks" over at ESPN.com want us to know that she was at the game. So much so that they HAVE to advertise it on the front page by making it, quite literally, the VERY FIRST THING you see once you get past the scores and links at the top of the page...:mad::mad:

All about ratings to gauge how much more they can squeeze from their advertisers, and yes streaming is annoying; I like OTA and Channel Master. It was supposed to be cutting cable, but now providers are all creeping up their prices. A big FU to capitialism, and finding novel ways to charge the public with prior activities or services that were gratis. I thinkn the writings on the wall for the NFL to fallow the NBA into everything charged on top of having commercials. At some point it won't be worth it.

Absolutely I agree with all of this. Dominating the competition in all facets of the game is what we want to see at this point in the season or any point in the season, really. It's especially good to see Brock Purdy pick up exactly where he left off pre-injury and continue to look the part of an elite quarterback.

And yet... the two years that the Niners did advance all the way to the Super Bowl most recently were years where no one expected us to be there so I just feel as a sports fan you're tempting fate whenever you start to feel too comfortable.
