Next Kings coach : list

They are playing the game on nba tv today at 3pm.
Do you mean that I have to delete my message because it's a spoiler?
Or its just an info?

However, great great great game. A lot of talent on the court.
Keep your eyes on David Andersen (I love him... He also made an unbelievable fade away in the first half for a PF) and the second half of Ramunas Siskauskas.

If it's a spoiler i'll delete my messages...

I would love to have Scott as our coach, but I'm skeptical that his job really is in danger. He's the right coach for that team, they just don't have the depth to make up for the health problems they have and that's not really his fault.

David Andersen is a good PF/C ... won Euroleague with CSKA ... moved to Barca last year. If I am not mistaken, he is in Atlanta system. Solid player (tall, big time shooter) but I think it is too late for him to explore the skies of NBA.

Siskauskas is the best SF in Europe but I think he is one of those star-in-Europe-not-a-star-in-NBA kinda player a-la another former CSKA superstar Theo Papaloukas.

It's not a spoiler. Your messages are fine. I think he was just pointing out today's broadcast for anyone who might want to watch...

Doesn't a good coach develop a bench, take the younger guys and mold them into solid contributors? I'm pretty skeptical of any coache's record who has had Hall of Fame talent at the point guard position. To me, the bar is set higher for that coach, not lower.

Not a spoiler at all. The boxscore to the game was already online if anyone was interested. Just wanted to let everyone know the game was going to be broadcast today. We don't get many euroleague games over here during the nba season.

One of the rumors coming out of Hornet land is that management there would allow Scott to pursue other coaching opportunites if he so desired. If true, one could assume that they wouldn't mind getting rid of him and would love it if he would just walk away, possibly to rid themselves of the last year of his contract. If they just fired him, they would be stuck paying him around 5 mil next year.

The problem is, Scott isn't going to get 5 mil a year here (most likely), because I don't feel the team is going to shell out that much cash. Scott would probably coach his last year next year and walk, and the team wouldn't have to pay him off if they fired him.

At a glance I didn't see this anywhere. Jeff Van Gundy anyone? The man could install some defensive hustle and start building this team in the right direction. Thoughts?

Sorry if this has already been discussed. I don't want to read through the entire 11 pages, but I did browse a few of them.

Go Kings!

JVG has been discussed and discussed and discussed. He just signed a 5 yr contract to continue as NBA analyst for ESPN. If you like boring walk it up half court sets he's perfect and yes he can coach D. His last gig in Houston was regarded as a failure as he never got team past the first round of playoffs and left the job because he said he was "burnt out."

I want Sam Mitchell. There's a great article in ESPN about Chauncey Billups that mentions Mitchell quite a bit:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=090511/billups

Mitchell would have the players`respect. He`s also a former Coach of the Year. And hey, nobody`s perfect.
Did you watch the raptors under him? Total cluster%&*$ of a team with no defense or seemingly any offensive cohesion. Go ask raptor fans what they think of him as a coach. Being a vet on a team is different than running the entire team as a head coach.

No, I just read articles and follow box scores. I am listening to the playoffs on the radio though, and I don't think my knowledge would be any more advanced regarding the coaches -- ie it would be totally biased by what the commentators say.

That said, I like that he's young; he's had success in the league; he can relate to players; he did more with that Raptors team than anyone else did; and he worked for a non-glamor franchise and played on a non-glamor team, ie he might be open to Sacramento. I also don't think he was Colangelo's coach, ie the GM's hand was forced when Mitchell won coach of the year.

He should at least be interviewed. If he's not then Petrie and the Maloof's selection process is questionable.

i really think were going to end up with jordan, the bee is sold on him and out of all those who seem to be in the pool were going for seems the most qualified. He's not my first choice but its an ok choice based on the fact we need to get to competing again before contending.

He seems to be the most qualified to do what exactly? One does wonder. You would be hard pressed to put together a pool where Jordan was the most qualified candidate for anything. Career long losers usually remain just that -- losers.

Like usual it's not like we have great options to go to.

We want a coach who has head coaching exp. and has been somewhat succesful.

So what are our options?

I think Jordon will be the next coach, not sure why we wouldn't at least interview Avery but I can understand Van Gundy, with what we have and petrie likes to have a certain type of team it wouldn't fit.

On Bill Simmons podcast JVG said he would like to coach again. He thinks he has to start all over from being an assistant. I know he has his negatives and it would be boring to watch but I like JVG and he teaches passion which our team lacked last year.

After all the negative stuff they kept saying about Rick, I don't listen to any of their coaching talks.

The coach we need and should have kept is the guy who's sitting on the bench, coaching the Houston Rockets.

I would rather have Van Gundy than Eddie Jordan. I don't see why Petrie and the Bee, are in love with Jordan. It isn't far-fetched to say jordans only success in the league was due to Arenas being healthy and putting up huge numbers, and playing in a very weak conference at the time. Of course he is better than what we have had, but i am not excited about him being our next coach at all. IMO, its just a safe pick. I wouldn't be too dissapointed with it, but i would like to see Van Gundy, Avery J, and Doug Collins interviewed as well.

If Petrie really wants Jordan, he has only a few days to sign him to a contract. If Jordan isn't our coach before Petrie goes to Spain next week, Jordan will be the sixers coach by the time Petrie gets back.

About Collins: reports I've read is that he's only looking at returning to Philly, not just any NBA coaching job. He's not coming to Sac.

Also, I would like to see what the interest is on both sides in regards to Paul Silas.

Silas is recoverying from cancer. Doubt he ever coaches again.

With a handful of head coaching vacancies still up for grabs, the best playcaller outside North America isn't sitting by the phone. But if it rings, then he'll gladly take the call. Ettore Messina has won every honour imaginable in European club basketball, as well as coaching his native Italy to a European Championship final. His offensive schemes have long been the subject of admiration on both sides of the Atlantic. Having accomplished so much, there is only one avenue left to conquer.

Messina, who recently took CSKA Moscow to the Euroleague final, is still regarded as a left-field contender for the Sacramento Kings post after being previously linked with New Jersey before Lawrence Frank held down his job. With the myth of Europe's players not being good enough for the NBA now firmly dispelled, surely the next step is for a coach to make the leap?

"It's not that I should consider the NBA," the 49-year-old Sicilian declared. "It's that they should consider me. It would, for sure, be an interesting challenge and experience but it is not something I can control. Unfortunately nothing comes of it. You read the press, you enjoy the gossip because in this job, good press is important."

Messina has some experience within the NBA system, having previously taken charge of Denver's summer league team. Yet even with his impeccable credentials, the varying nature – and rules – of Europe and the NBA would require an adjustment.

"It would be tough, certainly," he said. "You would need time. You would need very good assistants. You would need a franchise who would be behind you and who would understand you might start off losing because it is a different environment and a different game."

It's a legitimate source. Published on May 19th. I HAD to bring it back up. Ettore Messina. It's the only news of Ettore Messina EVER published on the Guardian, which by the way, is the 4th largest newspaper in the world. Coincidence much that this sort of news that he is still in the running for the Kings position is published the day Petrie leaves from Europe?!

From the way he's talking, it sounds like he talked with Petrie or was interviewed by him. It sounds like he's put the ball in Petrie's (the NBA's) court.

I could be reading into this too much, but it's just odd that the one and only story of Ettore Messina on the Guardian (prestigious Euro newspaper), one that mentions him still being a candidate for the Kings position, is published the same day as Petrie's return. Very odd indeed.

I'll take it one step further. Don't you think it would be a great selling point for Rubio to have this guy as the coach? Rubio might say it's Sacto or no-go. That gives the Kings great leverage in getting him.

Well, I don't know about leverage, because Memphis and Rubio have all of it. But it sure would give Fegan/Rubio a bigger incentive to push for Sactown and use their leverage against Memphis.

My point exactly. The more Rubio wants to be a King, the more leverage the Kings have in the process.

It would be interesting to see Ettore Messina here. He's proven and knows what it takes to win. It seems his team's aren't selfish....Plus his name sounds better to me than Eddie Jordan's.

CSKA has won the Russian title and the season is over, some days and we should know something more about Messina's future.
