Nene?

I would take a risk on Nene.

I like Nene, always had intrigue about him since 2004, and was willing to take a chance on him this past summer. He's looked pretty good in his short stints I've seen vs. Boston and New York. I want to see more of him, and think he will indeed get better steadily as the season goes on.

I can see Petrie doing it because of his interest history, and Nene's short and long-term situation. We seemingly have the pieces.

Just would eventually need to get a defensive center behind, infront, or replacing Brad Miller. :)

but this is about the only chance you're ever going to have to get in on the ground floor with a young and established big man and keep him around for awhile. I could see it going either way, but I wouldn't dismiss it outright like some people here are doing because of a few weeks of basketball. He's back in the starting lineup now. They're slowly increasing his minutes. Now would be the time to get him. Even a couple weeks down the line it might be too late.

Tend to agree there.

All you people who keep saying Nene is injured and a shadow of his former self, that's what everyone was saying about Amare two weeks ago. If you want to really take advantage of a "buy low" situation you actually have to take a chance. The guy missed a whole year. It's going to take him time to get properly conditioned for a full game of NBA basketball. It's true he's not any kind of holy grail big man. At his best he's always been a scorer, not all that much of a rebounder or shot blocker. But he's a lot better than anything we've got going. It's too bad Denver went and signed him to a ridiculous contract. That would make me think twice about trading for him, but this is about the only chance you're ever going to have to get in on the ground floor with a young and established big man and keep him around for awhile. Don't even go there....Amare was an MVP candidate Nene has proven to be a ROTATIONAL player at best. I'd take Zack Randolph before I even thought about Nene. At least Z-Bo has DONE something in the NBA.

Don't go there? I think you missed my point. My point was not Nene=Amare. My point was it usually takes time for players who have missed a lot of time to get back to their usual selves on the basketball court. People spent the last year talking about whether Amare would ever get back to what he was before. He looked terrible two weeks ago and now he's an MVP candidate again. I think it's way pre-mature to label Nene as damaged goods. You could certainly question whether he's shown enough to warrant the contract he signed with Denver, I don't think he has myself. Young big men are always overpriced in this league so Denver probably thought they did what they needed to do to keep him around. And his best case scenario is far far short of Amare obviously. You're not getting a dominating big man even if he is healthy. But this business about him never fully recovering from injury? Please. He's 24. I would be seriously shocked if that were the case.
