You know, I find this question odd given that we are all fans of a franchise which has reveled in turning things upside down and proving there is more than one way to skin a cat. Our big men pass and shoot, our longtime OG could not shoot, but passed and defended, our PG is more shooter than penetrator etc.
And you might ask me what I think are the most improtant traits in a SF, and I would say shooting, ballhandling...not sure on #3, but then realize that if you asked me who were the best SFs in the league, literally NONE of them is known for shooting, and several of them not for ballhandling (LeBron, McGrady, Kirilenko, Artest, Marion etc.).
So in other words, I'm not answering.

Wow, you all think that ballhandling is that important ? I don't think it matters that much, especially not for OGs who pretty much slash without the ball and drive off of fakes and use post moves to get to the basket. I think that jumping and defense are a lot more important for SFs, and of course a nice midrange shooting touch.

Yeah, I was expecting everyone to put "passing" under C and PF positions. I think past Kings teams- and countless others around the NBA-have proven that there is no single mold for a player at any position. Players just need to have great skills, and (some) coaches and organizations will find a way to utilize those skills as much as possbile. Here's what I think:
PG: Heart, athleticism, good BB IQ, toughness
SG: Heart, athleticism, good BB IQ, toughness
SF: I think you see where this is going

Well, just depends on how you interpret "defense, rebounding, intensity". Do not have to be EXCLUSIVE traits. How does this team strike you?:
Ben Wallace
Kevin Garnett
Ron Artest
Bonzi Wells (was struggling to think of somebody who fit all three)
Chauncey Billups (again, was a bit of a struggle -- also, what about Bobby Jackson?)
Just give us our rings NOW or we'll rip your fingers off and take them ourselves.

First off, I would agree somewhat with what everyone has said, but I would have to say that the most important ability for each position is effort and heart on defense. I might be in a minority when I say it, but most of the kings, especially the starters, or do this when they want to. We need to find some guys that know how to play like this all or most of the time and feel that defense is an important part of the game.

Actually, that wasn't a shot at the Kings (I'm a Indy fan).
When I'm trying to decide if I want a player on my team, I think can he defend? first and can he rebound? second. Next, I like to consider the player's attitude. Does he play unselfishly on offense? Is he intense on the court? Is he a leader? Is he mentally tough? I couldn't find one word to sum all those up, so I chose intensity.
I know teams need to be able to score, but I would rather watch a losing team that chokes teams defensively and crashes the boards, than watch a winning team that does nothing but score. It just isn't as enjoyable.

Seriously, there is a certain college-like atmosphere about being in an arena with the score tied... at 130-130 and two minutes left in the game.

Actually I probably should have listed rebounding first. If my team is getting outrebounded, I go mad. I just can't stand it, it pisses me off to no end.
I went mad a lot last year.
