Monta Ellis

rainmaker

Hall of Famer
Ellis left the the Warriors for their current road trip for personal reasons, but there are reports that he isn't happy with management. Do you think we should make a play at Ellis this summer? Do you think he could be a full time pg? He definately has a lot of talent and is one of the better young guards in the league when he is healthy.

Trade Kevin for him this summer.

That doesn't get you anywhere.

Nor do I think the guys can really play together -- Monta is not a real PG and may not even be able to play outside of the run n gun. There is always this wacky super-quick backcourt pairing idea in putting them out there together, but I don't think that's a defenseless run n gun fun trumps winning sort of look.

I don't know if this is Nelly's bag of tricks again--screwing with matchups and generally creating a hostile environment for his players when things aren't clicking. Monta obviously had the motorcycle mishap, got a late start to the season, now has Jamal Crawford taking his place in the lineup/lessening his minutes amongst other problems, but this is purely the Warriors' fault for even leading their players to ask for a trade. Al Harrington asked for one, B-Diddy actually chose the Clippers over them, and now Monta may be gone...I think their ship is really sinking. And now Nelly's asking for Jamal to opt out of his 2 yr $19mil remaining so they could save some $. Amazing.

But the trade deadline's over, and assuming that Ellis's side and the Warriors don't make amends, if there's a time to get Ellis, it may be now. He's still young, has already produced at a high level for a former playoff team, scores at a high percentage and irritates slower guards to no end with his ability to get to the basket. I think someone can actually lowball for Ellis with the state of disarray in the Warrior's organization, what with them trying to cut costs and especially if Crawford wants the $ and doesn't opt out. Doesn't fit our team, especially if we are to get Jeff Teague for whatever reason in the draft, but can be useful for other teams.

I would trade kevin for monte, just because monte is someone who is really able to create for himself and is more clutch than kevin. Though I havent seen monte play since his injury so I cant comment on that.

I like Monte, but I'd rather keep Martin. Martin is a better scorer and Monte is having a bad year this year. Ellis is better at running a team however, but that isn't his true position. I think we are better off with Martin than a guy we aren't sure where to fit in.

Ellis is damaged goods. 11mil for the next 5 yrs, I don't want nothing to do with him at this point.

It was reported by the Bee the Warriors are still thinking of voiding his contract, and that has created friction between the two sides.

if monta was a PG we'd be fine but he isnt and averages around 1 assist a game. Theres no way him and Kev could co exist and personally id rather Kev anyway

we already have a monta like player in Rashad and can come off cheaper... trading kevin for monta? you serious.. the guy isnt worth trading kevin for..

kind of makes me sick the league gave him the MIP when kevin so deserved it..

btw... whats kevin martin ever done to you that he goes to nelson's doghouse?! lol

We talked about this - and even had a poll - back in late January.

And he's still not recovered from his ankle. It's still giving him problems. He will be a never was.

No way I'm giving Martin up for Ellis.

two things...

1. Martin is a class act, Ellis is a moron.

2. Ellis was on a better team when he won MIP over Martin, that is all. He was playing along side Baron Davis who was playing for a contract, which made Monta and the rest of the team look a whole lot better than they really are.

I agree. I'd rather keep Kevin than get Monte.

Class acts are always harder to come by and it seems that Kevin is more interested in improving himself than Monte is.

i would trade someone else for ellis but not martin. if the warriors would take nocioni or beno for ellis then that would be cool. we could always try to trade ellis to another team later on. as bad as ellis is as a pg id rather have him starting than beno....

A year ago this time I would consider trading Martin for Ellis just because he has the potential to do more things on the floor than Martin - who is developing into a nice, one dimensional scorer and not much else. However, Ellis is truely starting to act like a punk (which is surprising given his quiet demenor when he entered the league.) For that reason alone, I wouldn't make the trade.

By the way, I've been a big supporter of Ellis in the past, but it's looking like his ego has gotten in the way of a potentially dynamic career.

I much rather resign McCants then give up something to trade for Ellis. McCants is a stronger more physical player also. Ellis' salary is way too high for the player that he's become. His attitude is no better than McCants history if not worse. McCants seems to be on good behavior now. Of course its got something to do with his contract coming up. But Ellis is not worth it in my opinion.

just sit back and wait the the warriors always give up their talent. Thats just what they do...

Ellis has been great since he missed the warriors roadtrip a couple weeks ago. Given how crappy Beno has been all year, I wouldn't mind taking a shot at ellis if we don't have to give up too much. I don't think he will be in oakland next year, and the warriors aren't in a position to demand that much for him. I would like to see what he could do if given an opportunity to be a fulltime pg for a season.

it looks lke tj ford just lost his starting spot to jack... maybe we can make a trade this summer....
