"Moment of Truth" - Biggest waste of TV time?

"Moment of Truth" has to be among the leading candidates for biggest waste of TV time in the history of the medium. I watched part of it out of curiosity and was stunned. What kind of human being would subject people they supposedly love to that kind of embarrassment when the lie detector reveals the loved one has not only done something despicable but has blatantly tried to fool a lie detector about it?

How ironic is it that, at least according to the news, Drew Peterson wants to go on the show and face questions about the dead of his third wife and disappearance of the fourth? And if he does go on the show and take the test publicly, and if it shows he is in fact lying, could he be arrested? My guess is no, since lie detector results aren't admissable in most states, but it's certainly somewhat mind-boggling.

Barney?

almost all "reality" shows? ;)

Have come to like "Ninja Warrior" as a change of pace once in a while. Those guys are amazing once you get past the first round of competition.

"Sunset Tan" is a waste of TV time. The show you are talking about is far worse. It is destructive and I will not be watching.

I won't watch again, believe me. The other stuff may be mindless drivel but this is almost like a bad movie plot come to life. Families go on a TV show and expose their deepest darkest secrets in an attempt to cash in... Kinda makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.

I haven't seen the show, just seen previews of it. Don't the contestants know the stakes when they signed up for the show?

Yes, and that's what makes it so smarmy. They're trying to win $$$ and are willing to pretty much sell any dignity they (or their loved ones) may have had in the process...

At some point, I would like to see a former contestant(s) sue the as*es off the network that produces and airs such garbage. I tend not to be a litigious (sp?) person, but what the networks engage in for profit seriously disturbs me. They only way I see it stopping is if they end-up losing their shirts on the deal because people are not about to stop watching the train wrecks.

I think they probably have potential candidates sign away any rights to litigation. They're smarmy but they have legal departments the size of small cities.

I think its the contestant that wants to ruin everything is disturbing just for money. Money always don't bring you happiness.

Okay, I am not a lawer or anything, and this may diverging off topic a bit, but having people sign waivers only offers a small amount of protection. I know this from my own training/career.

It depends on the language in the document. In certain instances, like this, they can make the document quite binding and very difficult to break. And I cannot imagine a jury being very sympathetic to a bozo who goes onto a show of this type with the full knowledge of what might happen. It's not like being blindsided. The person who committed the thing he/she is lying about knows they did it. If they come on, it's on them not the producers of the show.

Maybe Brickie can jump in on this if he gets a chance...

The commercials looked so terrible. I wasn't gonna go near this one.
Me either. I just refused to watch something where people were perfectly willing to risk serious pain to other people for money. I'm not going to support it with one minute of watching.

I mean, maybe they think they won't ask you a question that will be painful, but that's the risk. And once they ask it you're stuck. You tell the truth and cause hurt or lie and everyone knows it or you refuse to answer and then its clear why you won't answer it.

The network is awful for putting such garbage on the air, but it's the people willing to participate that utterly astound me. They are pathetic human beings worth nothing but my scorn.

And I like watching people crash and burn on tv. But when they have to bring their loved ones into it, so not cool.

I have to admit that I did suggest my wife and I submit an entry into one of the "get your house cleaned up and toss out all your junk" shows since we really need help in that department, but she flipped out on me once she realized I was serious.

I'd watch a loop of beheading videos sooner than I'd watch Survivor, Idol, or whatever show VF is talking about. I would, however, proffer Springer, the OC, Will & Grace, timbersports, an hr of BET/MTV rap videos, Scrubs, or that D-List celeb court show on at 1:30 am as the nadir of humanity.

OK, I take exception to Will&Grace. I liked that show. The rest I agree with.
