Mobley to debut against Jazz?

"I talked to Cuttino today," Francis said. "He told me he's going to flunk his physical in Sacramento so he can come back."

It's not a freaking test that you can bomb.:D It's a physical. Unless he manages to break something on the way there, he's going to pass.

From the Orlando Sentinel today. Hmmmm....

What a baby. If he wasn't helping my fantasy team I would utterly despize the "Franchise" at this point.

Disregard Stevies coment, Mobley has taken and passed his physical. The only thing preventing him playing is DC taking his.
Bibby may miss game

Newcomer Eddie House could be thrust into a starting role for short-handed Kings.

Officially, Kings coach Rick Adelman had a practice called for Wednesday.

Unofficially, it was a get-together and health assessment for his undermanned Kings, who meet the Utah Jazz tonight at Arco Arena.

The Kings defeated the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday with only nine players available, and Adelman may have even one fewer tonight.

Mike Bibby, the team's only remaining natural point guard, sprained his right ankle against the Nuggets and is a question mark for tonight's game, Adelman said. The coach said he hoped he'd have starting power forward Chris Webber against the Jazz, but that merely was positive thinking.

The newest Kings, Cuttino Mobley and Michael Bradley, arrived Wednesday and took part of their physicals at UC Davis Medical Center. They'll finish up today, but they will not be able to play until Doug Christie passes his physical with the Magic, and he may not meet Orlando in Detroit to do so until Friday.

Here is the link to that quote for those interested in reading PMFrancis. :)

Here's the article for those who don't want to bother registering at the Sentinel site:

MINNEAPOLIS -- He had a sad-eyed hollow look a few days ago and a grim game face Wednesday night.

Finally, Orlando point guard Steve Francis managed a smile after the Magic beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 87-80 at Target Center.

"I talked to Cuttino today," Francis said. "He told me he's going to flunk his physical in Sacramento so he can come back."

The Magic had traded shooting guard Cuttino Mobley, Francis' best friend, to the Kings for veteran Doug Christie. He was upset and, consequently, ineffective after hearing the news before tip-off Monday night in a loss in Boston.

Teammates, coaches and fans wondered about his emotional state, considering he's the club's quarterback.

Francis -- and the Magic (19-15) -- responded to the upheaval by playing aggressively, particularly on defense, against the Timberwolves (17-17). A pretty offensive team had to grind out a win when their shots wouldn't drop.

Francis said after the game it was still "horrible ... a nightmare" playing without Mobley. But he came out without Mobley's black No. 5 armband, the one he wore in his friend's honor in Boston.

After private pep talks with both the head coach and the general manager, Francis was all business when he came out.

"That's what you're going to get from me now. I have to be one of the leaders," he said. "But my feelings are still the same."

Neither Francis nor his jump shot apparently totally has recovered from the trade. He made just 7-of-24 shots and scored 17 points, but he was playing with his usual, unbridled enthusiasm.

"I think they responded like true professionals," Coach Johnny Davis said. "They put that [the trade of Mobley] behind them. I thought Steve would come out and play really hard, and he did. He has a lot of pride. The game the other night is not reflective of who he is. I thought tonight he laced them up and went to work."

The idea of the trade was to get Hedo Turkoglu on the floor more -- and he played a season-high 43 minutes. Turkoglu, making his first start of the season in Mobley's shooting-guard spot, led the Magic with 26 points. Grant Hill, hot early, finished with 20.

Nothing like an employee shakeup and a visit from the boss to heighten your awareness. Magic General Manager John Weisbrod flew to the game to soothe some hurt feelings after making the deal, speaking with Francis on Tuesday night and addressing the team Wednesday morning.

Turkoglu struggled early, but he hit 8 of 16 shots. "I felt no pressure. I'm just tired," he said. "I had big night, but I got big minutes. I'm feeling good. We're all feeling good."

T'wolves star Kevin Garnett, a one-man team, had 25 rebounds, 19 points and eight assists. Magic rookie Dwight Howard, playing against his idol, finished with six points and nine rebounds.

The Magic had control of the night against the floundering Timberwolves, leading by as many as 11. But Minnesota trimmed the margin to 84-80 with three minutes left.

That's when the Magic got a break from the basketball gods. A pass to Latrell Sprewell partially hit a referee, and Hill scrambled for the ball as the bench called timeout. The turnover-prone T'wolves didn't score again, thanks to some defense that Davis called "swarming."

He hasn't been able to use that term much. The lack of defense prompted the trade for Christie, who is expected to pass his physical and join Orlando as the four-game road trip rolls into Detroit on Friday.

Even without Mobley, the Magic had no trouble scoring points in the first half, leading 50-41 at intermission. But they were held to just 37 in the second half, stifled by the T-Wolves' zone defense.

The most telling post-trade statistic for Orlando at halftime was this:14 assists. The ball movement was noticeably better. Francis finished with seven assists, Hill five and Turkoglu four. The Magic also took better care of the ball, finishing with just eight turnovers under Francis' buggy-whip.

The Magic felt Francis was looking Mobley's way too much, when he wasn't looking for points himself. They want their point guard to use all the chess pieces.

Midway in the third period, Turkoglu passed to Hill, who passed to Francis, who passed to Turkoglu for a 3-point jumper. It isn't Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance yet, but it's a start.

Interesting Theory...

I started thinking about what you wrote and then thought back to what Grant said on Sportsline.

I am paraphrasing but it was somewhat to the effect of:

That they did not do the Tribute for Doug during the game for reasons that he cannot get into. He then said but basically the deal is not done until all players pass their physicals. It gave me sort of a strange vibe like there might be something more to it, or something that he knows that he can't talk about.

I think the deal will go through, I just wish it would be over with so that Mobley can play.

Grant sometimes says things that aren't exactly rooted in hard fact. Remember, he also said that Bobby was exaggerating his abdominal strain and not playing in the playoffs so he would be sure and be fit for this season, his contract season.

I think Grant was speaking off the cuff about the tribute. I think it might have been something that had been tossed around but not actually finalized and Grant jumped the gun by talking about it prematurely. It might be like Vlade. They did the tribute for him when he was actually in Arco to appreciate it and I think the same is most likely in the works for Doug.

One more thought? Look at it this way. We all know Dougie is an emotional guy. What better way to ensure he doesn't play well AGAINST us on March 15 (something he's very capable of doing considering how well he knows our team) than to have a big emotional tribute right before the game followed by a rousing standing ovation?

;)

Doug or no Doug - Kings will beat Magic.

I really don't think Mobley with play tonight. Cristi has until tomorrow to report to the magic and I believe he will report tomorrow. So, we can look forward to seeing Mobley on Saturday.

It's going to be a tough game tonight. I think the Jazz will be a little tired from an emotional game last night. Webb will be back so I think the Kings will be fine. :)

It sounds very familiar. I just can't remember exactly in what context

Although I don't think Cat will play tonight, not only is Yahoo reporting that he will, but so too is ESPN.com in the "preview" for the Jazz game tonight. However, I'm sure we'll get the final word from Grant any minute now when he comes on.

DC and Jaki were at my brother-in-laws work(Kelloggs Tow and Transport on Stockton Blvd) today getting their 5 vehicles including 2 Mercedes and a big Suburban sent to Orlando. My sister was there and said to me afterwards, "Boy is that man whipped!".. I jus smirked and said, "To each their own"

Im sure they are finally on their way or there already. So the trade should be official this morning... Yippee

Christie still hasn't passed his physical and both Mobley and Bradley were unable to practice today because of this.......he's really starting to pee me off.

Are you kidding me ? Did he even attempt to take it yet ? And how long does it take to get the results back ?

The Magic tip in Detroit in less than an hour so if DC is playing tonight it should be known already. If he's playing then he obviously passed his physical.

Ryle, I agree. I mean, if he really cares about the Kings, he should understand were shorthanded. I don't want to go into it any further though :\

Most of the magics fan say that christie is playing tonight ... so im going to check out the game in half a hour see if he is playing or not...
