Mobley to debut with Kings'

The Jazz will be the first team to face the new Kings' lineup, with guard Cuttino Mobley making his Sacramento debut. Assistant coach Ty Corbin, who handles much of the game-planning for each opponent, said the trade, which sent defensive specialist Doug Christie to Orlando, makes the Kings a better team. "It makes them a more potent scoring team. It's going to make it tougher to defend them," Corbin said. "He gives them another go-to guy, and your defense already has to concentrate on [Chris] Webber, [Mike] Bibby and [Peja] Stojakovic."

I don't think so!

Mobley can't play until Christie passes a physical. Everything I've read says that Christie won't be taking his physical until tomorrow.

Only issue that remains is Doug taking his physical and he doesn't seem to be in any hurry to do it. I believe they had until this morning to report and Orlando just played in Minny last night and they play in Detroit tomorrow night so I really don't have any idea as to how this will transpire. My guess is that he will not play tonight but will play on Saturday.

Conspiracy Theory - I think Doug will be back in Sacramento very soon.

I'll bet that Doug Christie fails his physical examination.

I think he is injured, and has been gutting-out recent games because he is tough.

I think Petrie was motivated to trade him because he knows that Doug has been hurt for months.

I think the Kings management knows that Doug won't pass the physical, and that is why they postponed the fancy television program designed to praise Doug for his service.

I have no further speculation on the Vlade trade.

Actually, I wonder what the definition of "injured" really is.

Most players Dougs' age have some type of physical problem. How bad does the injury have to be to void the trade?

I'm having flashbacks to the Mateen Cleaves for Jumaine Jones trade. Damn, If only Mateen had been healthy we had another steal on our hands. Also, normally they won't pass if they find "something". In Mateens case it was a stress fracture in his foot(I also think they wanted a reason to get out of the trade because it was so lopsided). Christie's main problem is the Plantar Fascitis that he has but he continues to play with it and if Orlando really wants him they will make this work.

i believed that players have 48 hours to report for their physicals after a trade... this was an issue a few weeks ago when jim jackson didn't report within 48 hours to New Orleans... i believe the trade was made late on Monday, possibly finalized in the league office on Tuesday morning, so that would give DC until Thursday (today) morning to report for his physical... i think when they said that DC won't be availble until Friday to play, thats because thats the magics first game after taking his physical today...

i expect that mobley and bradley will be dressed and able to play tonight... i also expect bibby to play hurt unless he can't walk... bibby is a gamer, but i hope he doesn't hurt the injury more if he plays...

I think Peja is playing hurt. I think he is tougher than anyone knows. Look at his expression after making a run or a lay-up. We have all had lower back strains. It can be debilitating.

well, he did play with a broken leg for a while masked by pain medicine.

i hope webber and bibby come back soon to take off some of the load.
the last thing we need is pedja getting hurt too.

Given how public Dougs plantar fasciaties has been I doubt if that will be a deal killer. When teams make mid-season trades they both what it to work and the physical is much more a formality espcialy when both players have been on the court logging big min.

Vlade trade? eh?

According to Yahoo Mobley is supposed to make his debut tonight. Also see below NBA.com quote

From McNeal's article about Bibby (in another thread) in today's Bee:

The newest Kings, Cuttino Mobley and Michael Bradley, arrived Wednesday and took part of their physicals at UC Davis Medical Center. They'll finish up today, but they will not be able to play until Doug Christie passes his physical with the Magic, and he may not meet Orlando in Detroit to do so until Friday.

I think part of the confusion is over the original time constraints usually associated with players reporting to their new teams. From what I heard, the league granted Doug an extension until Friday. If that's the case, Mobley might well NOT play tonight, despite expectations.

Thanks for the info VF. Can't Mobley play once Doug passes his physical today? I think your usage of the word "MIGHT" is key. It would be great to see him at least get off the bench for 5 or 10 minutes tonight. But Saturday vs the Clips is fine too. :)

Yes IF Magic managment makes the call, but unless there is a Magic represenative at teh Dr's office with a phone in hand, they are unlikely to make the call. But since they don't play tonight why would they? I doubt if they feel obliged to do the Kings a favor.

Once Doug passes the physical, then Mobley and Bradley are free to play. I don't think anything has been said about Doug taking the physical today. At least one report said he is expected to play for the Magic on Friday, after completing the required physical. So, it's pretty much up in the air at this point, at least as far as the fans of both teams are concerned.

On the roster on the Kings website, Mobley is listed as #3. For those with Wallace jersey, just cross off the name. :)
Well I guess that goes to shwo you can't belive every thing you read... including Salt Lake news papers specualting on Mobley palying tonight.

didnt all 3 of them have until 7 am pst to take the physicals? its damn near 1 pm so i'm guessing that he has... doug has much more class than payton or jim jackson. though jim is missed, why didnt we trade for him? its not like NO is using him....

Beceause of the distance the reprot time was extended untill tomorw. Dough is not holding anything up on purpose.

Yeah thats right I did not read that Mobley woul wear 50 I read that House would, and saw him in it last night. Too many new players to keep up with!

We probably didn't trade for him for the same reason that we got rid of him, which was probably the same reason Houston got rid of him, which was probably the same reason 12 other teams got rid of him. JJ was a good fit for the kings for one year, but we don't know what went on in the locker room, or practice, or what the players or coaches thought of him. I'm sure there was a reason we didn't even make an effort to keep him. He's been known to have serious attitude issues, so maybe he did and the Kings have just kept it quiet.

True but remember the next game for the Magic is tomorrow, ours is tonight. If all 3 players complete physicals today, theres no reason we should wait until Sat.

You only see this fromthe Kings perspective. From the Magics perspective why SHOULD they hurry to get nim cleared in time for the Kings to play Cat tonight? What is in it for them?

Interesting Theory...

I started thinking about what you wrote and then thought back to what Grant said on Sportsline.

I am paraphrasing but it was somewhat to the effect of:

That they did not do the Tribute for Doug during the game for reasons that he cannot get into. He then said but basically the deal is not done until all players pass their physicals. It gave me sort of a strange vibe like there might be something more to it, or something that he knows that he can't talk about.

I think the deal will go through, I just wish it would be over with so that Mobley can play.

"I talked to Cuttino today," Francis said. "He told me he's going to flunk his physical in Sacramento so he can come back."

From the Orlando Sentinel today. Hmmmm....

You're assuming that Doug will take the physical today. The point I was trying to make was that his time to report had been extended 24 hours so he has until tomorrow to fulfill the requirements.

About Steve Francis and his stupid comment... yeah, right. I don't think a player can intentionally flunk his physical. AND if he made that statement and followed through on it I believe some kind of charges could actually be filed against him.

I've read several different articles that say Mobley will be much better out from under the influence of Little Stevie Franchise, who has a poor attitude at best and a total misunderstanding of how things work. I hope this is just Francis bloviating because if Mobley did say that, he's not gonna fit in here at all...
