Memphis Set to Take Thabeet... According to ESPN.

Memphis Set to Take Thabeet!!!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4284494

Memphis has refused multiple trades offers from Minnesota because the Timberwolves aren't prepared to part with both the Nos. 5 and 6 picks or toss in Kevin Love in another scenario with just the No. 6 pick, a source with knowledge of the Grizzlies' situation told ESPN.com.

The Grizzlies aren't seriously talking with any other team about the No. 2 pick, but did have an initial discussion with Oklahoma City for the No. 3 pick and Thabo Sefolosha, although that deal was rejected by the Thunder. The Grizzlies had an initial discussion with the Sacramento Kings to move No. 2 for No. 4 and Jason Thompson but that was declined, as well.

Thabeet is atop the Grizzlies' draft board with Memphis' Tyreke Evans second, followed by Syracuse's Jonny Flynn and Davidson's Stephen Curry. The Grizzlies have given up trying to get Ricky Rubio and the source said they didn't want to deal with the buyout issues.

Er...you have posted that in a couple different threads wiht a big bold !!!!, but that is not quite what the article said, and all of that information is in any case a mere rehash of stuff we've already learned the last few weeks. Here is the key phrase that you omitted however:

The Grizzlies are, according to the source, prepared to make Connecticut's Hasheem Thabeet the No. 2 pick in the draft if they cannot get a deal for the selection.

Ignoring that this is just one more source amongst hundreds all chatterng away simultaneously at this point, this is generally been the most likely scenario with Memphis all along. Its the myriad deals they have been listening to that could really shake things up. they apparently could not get their pipe dream deals. Now will they take more realistic offers.

Haha, just the excitment of the looming draft day. Things are getting a lil crazy.

Its saying that all the deals thats proposed from either side are shot down. So unless someone steps up to the plate with a new offer, they will select Thabeet.

Thabeet explains why he didn't go to Memphis for Workout

http://www.draftexpress.com/blog/Jonathan-Givony/#Word-on-the-Street-June-24th-The-Latest-3283

"I didn’t…I haven’t…I mean I couldn't reschedule because the schedule was kinda you know...I couldn't work out early like I was supposed to like everyone else because I had hyper-extended my shoulder working out. Later on when I was scheduled to go to Memphis I found out my visa had expired so I had to get to New York as soon as possible to get it done on Monday morning or I would be deported. So I had to get out here as soon as possible."

In regards to not wanting to play in Memphis:

"That's not accurate at all. To me this is a blessing to be in this position wherever I am to play basketball; wherever I end up I'll be happy. I'm just happy to be in this position. Whoever drafts me, I’ll be happy to go there."

Which could easily happen on draft night.

Dear Memphis FO:

We know that you have given away good players for almost nothing, but none of us are interested in repaying the Lakers' debt to you. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.

this doesnt really help since the thunder will more than likely take rubio. unless you guys would be cool with trading thompson and the #4 pick for jeff green and the number 3.... i wouldnt but i could understand why some would. green isnt the best but would a great finisher for rubio and is probably why they want rubio so bad, westbrook can play sg and back pg. unless okc goes for a sg i dont see us getting rubio without giving up thompson and or the #4 pick. its too bad we couldnt make a deal with the wiz for their pick.

When I look at OKC, I just don't see Rubio as being a good fit. They'll have to move Westbrook to SG and Westbrook has already said he won't like it plus he may be too small to play there. Not to mention there are players out there who fit better and is at least as talented as Rubio, imo.

At this point, I just don't see OKC keeping Rubio. They may still draft him and deal him, however.

Well, the trade options might be more to OKC's liking since both Minny and Sac could potentially take the guy they like (Harden/Curry). The same isn't true for Memphis since the Thunder probably take Thabeet. Also, they may simply like Rubio more than Westbrook and then try to trade Westbrook for a SG/PF.

i would love to see okc take a sg or a pf... the could use harden moreso than rubio. same goes for a player like hill....

The "source" is probably Rick Bucher:eek:

I'm not sold on this no matter how much it's reported. A Rubio/Westbrook back court makes very little sense. I think this is also a smokescreen to try to get MN or us to trade with them. Unless Presti is going to take Rubio and try to immediately trade him or Westbrook, having two ball-dominant guards who can't shoot in your back court is a recipe for disaster.
