McGrady and Houston's pick

I dont know where to post this but i read in yahoo that mcgrady is out for the season... and we know how rockets are always the favorite of the injury bug....

so with him out... what do you guys think will happen to their pick... how protected is it? i mean if it is only top 6 or something then worst case scenario they really drop and get some thing between 8 and 15th pick..

AFAIK, it's lottery protected this year. So anything lower than 14th and we will get it next year instead, with less protection (although I vaguely remember reading that it's also lottery protected next year, after that the protection declines yearly).

I hope Houston manage to sneak in. Still some intriguing players to be had mid 1st round.

Yeah, as long as the Rockets hang on and squeak in its good for us -- if they are #8 in the West that's our best case scenario. But with 9 teams in the hunt, Boozer about to come back, the Phoenix players having finished pouting to fire their coach, there is a risk here they end up as the 9th team looking in. Adleman is a wizard at holding together teams in the face of injuries, but certainly he needs both Yao and Artest to stay healthy the rest of the way for them to make it. And neither of those guys has ever stayed healthy for any length of time.

Yeah but that might be a good thing. Ron is in a contract year, and now is his chance to step up and be THE MAN in Houston and their playoff run.

Houston is in a tough spot this summer. Might really be suffering at PG after a Raferless playoff run, McGrady might never come back, Artest could walk for nothing.

Of course we would be more than happy to help out by sending Beno, Nocioni, and KT's expiring to them for McGrady's expiring contract. :D

And now, somewhat ironically, we're actually depending on Rick Adelman to help us again. If anyone can coax the Rockets into the playoffs, it's Obi Wan Adelman.

Even if they make the 8th seed, their record would still probably be better than half of the weak playoff teams in the east :(.

Amare is apparently out for the season though.

The Houston pick is top 14 protected in 2009, top 14 protected in 2010, top 10 protected in 2011, top 10 protected in 2012, top 5 protected in 2013, top 3 protected in 2014, and unprotected in the 2015 Draft.

And just in case (for any reason) you are wondering about the picks we gave to Boston top 55 protected in the 2014 Draft). If our pick is in the top 55 picks, then our obligations to Boston shall be extinguished.

We also gave Boston a 2015 pick (Will Soloman deal?) same rules apply.
