All-Star
just like to start off by saying I havent put a WHOLE lot of thought into this strategy, and Im not sure its the best way or even a possible way to go .. but anyways .. here it is.
* If we land a #1,2, or 3 pick in the draft I wouldnt consider this, this is if we are forced into the 5-10 and on range in the lottery.
We have 3 picks in this years draft as of now. It looks like it will be a late first, early first and early second.
What if we traded away those picks for a star player on a bad team instead of adding to our young players. Personally, I like our youth and I think we have enough of it UNLESS we can add a top 3 pick like I said above. I mean, we dont have enought minutes for the young players we have now, so adding more may not be the best idea.
here are the names Ive thought of off the top of my head:
Caron Butler, Gilbert Arenas : I like butler. I have never been a huge fan of agent zero, but he can be a very good player when healthy .. personally I wouldnt take a chance on him tho ... Washington is worse than us right now, 1-10 in the east .. granted they dont have gilbert now, but I could see them unloading a star for picks this offseason.
Baron Davis, Great point guard .. Clipps are terrible, they got screwed this offseason with the whole brand fiasco .. maybe they have decided they want to go with the rebuild and start fresh with 2 first rounders..
Dirk, yep, Dirk... also throw in Howard to the list.. Mavs werent very good last year, and arent playing well this year. Nowitzki is a free agent in 2010 and this might increase the chances of the mavs dealing him .. I wouldnt touch him unless we can get him to sign an extension. Josh howard was rumored for ron last year, he has off court issues but he is a good player offensively and defensively.. something to think about .. I could see Cuban blowing it up and going to picks.
Melo - wishful thinking here, but you never know .. for some reason they have been rumored as shopping melo for a while now ..
these are just a few names, there are some other ones .. like rip and sheed from the pistons .. carter from the nets ( no thanks ) and others .. I just listed the ones I like best and thought would make the most sense ..
heres where people tell me Im crazy, Im just thinking outside the box here .. I saw what boston did, when they couldnt get oden the went out and traded for KG and Allen .. It can be done, we have our one star, maybe we trade for another 1 and hawes, thompson or greene can develope as the third of our big three.
