Make a move for Hedo?

I am reading articles out of Orlando and apparently Hedo is planning on opting out of his contract after this season. Assuming that he is looking for an average of 10 million a year, should we make a play for him? Orlando could make a sign and trade that would send us Hedo for say Salmons, Moore, and maybe our late Rockets pick?

If our franchise move is to go back to classic Kings style unselfish play, then Hedo fits the bill in every way. He's already a fan favorite here in Sacramento. We've got a lot of young talent already and a near star veteran could help this team a lot. He's not injury prone and he can fill the clutch role that Bibby once did. Though I have faith in Kevin Martin I am still skepticle about his taking over at the end of the game consistently. Hedo has proven that he can thrive under the pressure. Martin can carry us 3 quarters and then Hedo can clean up.

Most good teams have a 3 players that dominate the offensive end. Hedo and Martin give us two and one of our youngin's should provide the 3rd.

Any takers on this idea?

I think Donte Greene can be a Allstar in this league. and bringing in Hedo will only delay is development. I would rather have Donte at this point. we need a huge pg or pf star wait for 2010.

The problem with your logic is that Hedo is actually a pretty good player, and could fill a need.
I'm not sure what management's opinion is on Donte Greene. I don't know if they see him as the future, or if he's just a throw-in who may work out.I also don't know if Hedo would impede development of other players (since Greene wouldn't get any PT this year anyway.)
It's a valid question posed by the OP. Personally, I'd be for it. He's on the under side of 30, which is OK in the short-term, but I don't know if I'd max contract for 6/7 years, or whatever it may be.

I think this is why geoff did the deal. we worked him out twice. he has his best tryout with Sacramento. i think petrie liked both Thompson and Greene.

Greene is a good player.. He possesses pretty much the same skillset which Hedo possesses. Greene is more athletic, but Hedo has the experience. At this point I would rather have Hedo, but Greene is probably better at his age than Hedo was at the same age. Whether Greene develops into someone

So while I would rather have Hedo as a player ont he Kings at this poinnt I would have to counter that and say I would rather have Greene's upside and potential on the roster this year. So he trumps Hedo imo.

Okay:

1) as a general rule signign a 30 year old vet to $10 million a year is the absolute last thing this franchise should be thinking about doing. Its everything we have been doing wrong, done again.

2) However, your proposed deal to make it happen -- an S&T for Salmons and Moore + whatever...now that's actually an idea that I think you could consider. You do add salary, but not a full $10 mil, and you get back a good guy with Kings connections who also, and this is key, has shown he can thrive off the bench (althoguh at those sorts of salary numbers....). In any case, the difference being that if Green develops you might as well just cut Salmons ratehr than have him slouch around as a bench guy. Wheras Hedo could effectively be pushed aside and jsut become a top 6th man.

That said, I still think there are better things to do -- but the particular trade proposal was solid.

From what I've heard, Thompson and Greene were 1 and 2 on the Kings' board when our pick was being made.

For sure, the Kings will not be competitive with the current roster for the next 2-3 years. Thompson and Greene, as promising as they are and as young as they are now, will take at least 2-3 years to develop as true starters.

As fans, are we willing to wait that long and endure suffering in frustration from losing a lot of games?

Besides, we don't want our young guys develop the losing mentality and we would rather see them develop the winning mentality, do we?

To me, as long as we can keep MARTIN, MILLER, and UDRIH ( which currently are our NBA-legit starters ) and as long as we won't lose any of our promising starter players ( Hawse, Thompson, Greene ) - I'll go for this trade to get Hedo Turkoglu.

Moreover, ( and if possible), I'll TRADE FIRST for a very good POWER FORWARD ( i.e. Al Jefferson, Lamar Odom, Carlos Boozer, or Chris Bosh ) to make the team competitive ASAP, rather than later.

I don't mind losing Salmons, Moore, Garcia, Douby etc., since they already have shown they have talents that are less than legit starters anyways.

What is scaring me is the possibility of having Hawse, Thompson, Greene, ( Udrih and Martin ) developing the losing mentality. I hate to see the Kings suffer the same faith as the Memphis and the Clippers, who seem not to ever go over the hump, even when they did have a lot of good and promising players.

Hedo would be great but the Kings if you haven't noticed are trying to get more athletic, faster and more or a run and gun team. I think the team is just fine and the retirement of SAR just gives the younger guys more playing time. I see the Kings sticking to the roster throught camp and only then will they see if trading a player like Miller away is worth it. I think they should keep him because in the end his still a top 5 center in the west. Yao, Oden, Bynum, Shaq, Duncan... damn, well maybe not, we'll see.

I guess I am not sold on even considering Donte Green as a future starter until he actually plays a game. I don't doubt his potential, but how many potential players come into this league and do nothing (Patrick O'Bryant, Kwame Brown).

For all we know Greene is a player that could take 6-7 years to get anywhere close to being an all-star. I'm sorry but I can't wait that long. I am not suggesting that we sign Hedo to a 6-7 year max contract. That would be insane for any team. But if his contract is similar to say Martin's (5 years averaging 10m), then I think its worth the money to get a player that alongside Martin and some role players could get us to the playoffs. Especially if in turn we clear up Salmons contract. In the meantime players like Hawes, Greene, and Thompson can grow on a team that wins. Playoff experience beats garbage time experience any day.

I don't know how anyone can equate this to wanting to relive old glory. Hedo is 10x better now than he ever was with us. Hedo was a good role player then, but he was hardly a star. It just happens that that little role player is now a beast. Bringing back a fan favorite is just a bonus.

Brad is barely in the top half of the West centers at this point. And he is still somewhat what he always was -- the difference is that real centers have emerged in the NBA again (its always cyclical) and Brad is still the same plodding queer duck who can't play inside. There is not a GM in the league who would trade him for Yao, Kaman, Camby (guess he's a PF this year) Bynum, Oden, Chandler or Shaq, and given their ages, maybe not even for Okur. If they insist on leaving Jeffereson at center, he's obviously far better too. For that matter I doubt the Warriors would trade Biedrins for him. In the entire Western Conference the only teams with clearly weaker centers starting are Oklahoma City, Memphis, San Antonio, Dallas and maybe Denver now (although a healthy Nene probably puts up 15 and 8 with post game and would be better too).

He's aging, and just came off a bounceback year. NOT moving now would be stupid. You sell high, and the odds of there being anymore "high" left in Brad are distinctly declining. If he's as wonderful as some people still argue despite half a decade of evidence to the contrary, he hurts us by denying minutes to our future guys and draft spots that might nab a star. If he's as miserable as he can be, he hurts us by becoming a giant unmoveable contract. Either way -- bye now.

I would have to say no thank you. Hedo did great here and I love the guy but I don't see a reason to bring him back.

Now, if we were able to do a KT + Moore or something like that for him then sure!

If I could get Hedo for Salmons and Moore, I would do it. We would lose a little defense in the deal but gain a more unselfish player ( thats not to imply that Salmons is selfish ) and a player that in my opinion is more versatile. Hedo is more of a true small forward that can at times guard Power forwards.

As for as Greene goes. He's still a couple of years away from reaching the point where he would start, and his playing time wouldn't be affected anymore with Hedo there, than it would with Salmons there. I also think that the trade would help our rebounding, as well as giving Thompson more minutes with the absence of Moore.

I agree to ship out Miller if in exchange we get the likes of Al Jefferson, Boozer, or even just a Lamar Odom, or Okafor - but not in exchange of Shaq and Okur, which I think will be downgrading.

The question is - is there an offer?

What I don't get with this post is seemingly placing Miller outside of those who are decent and legitimate starter centers.

Yes, Miller is not the best Center around, but he is more decent compared to at least half of the centers around. And that is a fact that we fans of Sacramento Kings should at least be happy about.

Miller has proven he could still average a double-double ( 9.5 rpg, 13.4 ppg ), with a decent 1.03 blocks per game.

Assists-wise, isn't he one of the best centers in this category last season with 3.7 per game? What he lacks on the shot-blocking department, I think he had compensated fairly well with his numbers in assists.

I think those in favor of Miller are not over-estimating. We have a decent enough center in Miller ( very much like when we had Divac ), that if paired with a legitimate star quality POWER FORWARD ( the likes of Webber ), will bring this team into the playoffs again. Especially true with Martin around.
