I thought a win that is really a loss is a WOSS and a loss that is actually a win is a LIN.
W(in) but l(OSS) = WOSS and L(oss) but w(IN) = LIN
Does anyone know what the lowest position was that has ever jumped into the top 3?
Orlando had the 11th-worst record in 1992-93 (which would be the equivalent of the 14th-worst record today, as there were only 27 team in the league at that time), and literally missed the playoffs on a tiebreaker to Indiana... and they won the whole damned thing. Or did I misunderstand the question?Does anyone know what the lowest position was that has ever jumped into the top 3?
The Bulls own NY's pick...
BTW if Darrel Arthur declares I would take him wherever we'll be picking if we're not in the top 7.
This has a list of who will/might/won't declare:http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2007/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=InOut
I am literally praying to God that Arthur declares and we have a shot at him.

Knicks, yes, 9th/10th tie now. And the Timberwolves are only half a game behind, although they play Seattle tomorrow, so will have a really hard time getting anything but a woss out of that.
Bulls?
I was bored tonight since there was no game, so I wasted some time doing a little project. I took the top 20 picks from a number of different mock draft lists and put them together, trying to come up with some sort of consensus. Every list I've seen seems to go out on a limb once in a while, but I figured that an average of several recently updated lists wouldn't suck too badly. As it turned out, they went out on limbs often enough that I ended up with only a top 16 list -- after about #10 there's very little agreement, with most lists including some guys that do not appear in any position on some of the other lists. Anyway, here it is, the number in parenthesis is their average ranking:
#1 (1.25) Greg Oden
#2 (1.75) Kevin Durant -- but he's very close to tied for #1
#3 (3.0) Brandan Wright, the ONLY case where everyone agreed
Honorable mention (probably won't declare this year): Julian Wright (4.5)
#4 (5.0) Al Horford
#5 (5.75) Joakim Noah
#6 (6.75) Yi Jianlian
#7 (8.0) Jeff Green
#8 (8.75) Spencer Hawes
#9 (9.67) Roy Hibbert
#10 (11.33) Al Thornton
Honorable mention: (probably not declaring this year) Mike Conley (12.0)
Honorable mention: (no consensus, reason unknown) Chase Budlinger (13.0)
#11 (13.33) Corey Brewer
Honorable mention: (no consensus) Nick Young (14.0)
Honorable mention: (no consensus) Tywon Lawson (14.0)
#12 (14.33) Acie Law
Honorable mention: (no consensus) Tyler Hansbrough (16.0)
Honorable mention: (no consensus) Thaddeus Young (16.5)
#13 (17.33) Tiago Splitter
Honorable mention: (no consensus) Rudy Fernandez, (17.5)
Honorable mention: (no consensus) Javaris Crittendon (18.0)
#14 (20.33) Marcus Williams
#15 (20.33) Josh McRoberts
Honorable mention: (no consensus) Derrick Byars (21.0)
#16 (22.33) Marco Belinelli
Honorable mention: (no consensus) Hasheem Thabeet (22.5)
Honorable mention: (no consensus) Marc Gasol (24.5)
Honorable mention: (no consensus) Brandon Rush (25.0)
Honorable mention: (no consensus) Jason Smith (25.33)
Maybe we can stop talking so much about guys like Al Horford, Julian Wright and Joakim Noah... If we miraculously get a top 3 pick, surely we would pick Oden, Durant or Brandan Wright. If we don't, we will be picking somewhere between 7 and 13, and the aforementioned guys will be gone, Jianlian and Hawes probably will be too.
So now I'm trying to get psyched about the Roy Hibbert - Tiago Splitter range.
How about that Roy Hibbert?
First, regarding Wright, did you see the USC-North Carolina game? The USC guy (forget his name) dominated Wright. If he comes out, I'd pick him in a heartbeat (assuming that his character is beyond reproach) Also, are we factoring in all the foreign players? Knowing Petrie, he's going to choose someone out of Zambia that we've never heard of.
Darrel Arthur? 6'9" 230lb 10pt 5reb frosh Darrel Arthur?
I mean, he's got potential and all that, but what has he done that is actually droolworthy? He's pretty much a pure PF at that size -- no center work. Managed to score 20pts ina game exatly twice, on back to back nights back at the bginning of the season. Managed to grab double figure boards exactly twice, in back to back games in Feb. What did I miss to have people so excited they would draft him in the lottery?
My purpose in this thread wasn't to try to champion the cause of any player(s). If you think that ESPN, nbadraft.net, draftexpress.com, and so on are all smoking crack, take it up with them. I was only trying to get an idea on what the consensus was as to who would be available or not. Whatever my ideas may be about the merits of various players, I'm sure that GM thoughts are influenced more by ESPN's rankings than by mine.First, regarding Wright, did you see the USC-North Carolina game? Didn't see the game, although Wright's 21 points (9/15 shooting) and 9 rebounds don't seem all that terrible. USC had 2 forwards who scored any points at all in that game, so I'll assume you mean one of them. They were Nick Young, mentioned above (15 points on 6/13, 7 rebounds and 6 TO), and Taj Gibson (16 points on 7/12, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks and 4 TO). The account I read said that Gibson was guarding Hansbrough, not Wright, so maybe you were watching Nick Young? If he comes out, I'd pick him in a heartbeat (assuming that his character is beyond reproach)
Or somebody out of Utah Valley State, Wyoming or Western Carolina. I think that they are trying to take everyone into account, that's probably why there were 30 names given for 20 positions, even though the top 10 were pretty well agreed upon. Also, are we factoring in all the foreign players? Knowing Petrie, he's going to choose someone out of Zambia that we've never heard of.
Oh, man, I bet the management in Seattle are getting ulcers right now. Lewis and Watson just pulled a number like Bibby and Artest did against the Suns, Seattle was down 25, Allen out of the game, then the two Sonics rack up 59 points between them.
No excuses for Minny, you don't get a margin like that at home and then lose it to one of the worst teams in the NBA without trying.
This drops us to 9th/10th/11th. NO/OKC and Indiana both got half a game closer to us today, too.
Brad may be out for a while, time to sign Gary Coleman to a 10-day contract.
Where'd you hear that?
This is the second flare-up this season for Brad's plantar fasciitis. The only real cure, aside from surgery in some cases, is rest. With the Kings going nowhere very quickly, it's quite possible they'll just tell him to rest up and get ready for next year.
I wish we would just do that with everyone and let the team get a good draft pick...
Isn't that just a rehash of the old "tanking" discussion? If we do it, what's to prevent the other crappy teams from doing it? And you still run the risk of NOT getting one of the best draft picks...

Not a rehash -- its precisely how its done, every year, by many many teams. Its hwo the Wolves got Randy Foye this year. All of a sudden KG had to rest after 10 years of being one of the league;s great ironmen. No great secret to it. No scandal. Play the young guys, rest every available vet with any reason to rest. Then let nature take its course. And yes, all the other teams are already hard at it. The question would be are we going to be the fools not joining the party.
