Lottery position thread

I bet we could have pulled it off if KT weren't out injured.

With him gone, our all-star level suckage is limited to things like RonRon's rap. Maybe we should've traded Peja for Snoop Dogg instead.

maybe we should've just let peja walk and not sign anyone last offseason.

Inetesting stat - Of the last 16 games, only 3 are against teams with lower winning %

Atlanta
Minny (barely)
Memphis

I'm guessing we go 2-1 in those games, get 2-3 more upset wins the rest of the year, and end up about 33 - 49. That should put us in th 5-10 pick area. At this point, I don't think it's a matter of tanking. We're just not capable of much more than that

Thanks for posting that, that's good to know. I think we could(and hopefully) go 1-2 in those match ups though. KG might tear us apart and Memphis is decent, their record is just bad because of their inexperience and especially the injury to Gasol that kept him out of like 30 games.

I check ESPN's standings daily now: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/stand...ue&column=winPercent&order=false&seasontype=2

Looks like if things hold up the way they are, we'll end up around the 9th seed. The teams ahead of us are all clustered around 41 losses, so unless we go on another 5 game skid or so we wont move up that much. If we do, however, we could get as high as 4th (currently the Bucks at 25-41, who are getting healthy)--and that's all before ping pong balls are actually picked.

Edit: just played ESPN's lottery simulator and got Kings at #2 ;)

im just worried that geoff might still find his coveted 6'7 shooter who "can" play 3 positions in the heap of big men...

heres to hoping we get a position that forces his hand so he picks yi jianlian :p

I looked at the next 9 games. We might only win 2.

In my nightmares, Geoff picks Marco Belinelli. I'm sure that the guy will be a fine ballplayer, he just does nothing to fill our most dire needs.

Belinelli isn't so bad, but this year we have to draft necessarily a big men.
And the italian guy is a SG, where we almost have a young good guy.:D

I knew there was reason for optimism! Thanks for the info. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I really believe this team is going to be closer to the 5th spot than the 10th. I think the next 9 games against stiff competition is going to put them in a greater funk than they are now.

Don't jinx it ;)

I'm still hoping for a miracly on lottery day, we've been screwed over so much with our luck and with the draft specifically that we have to be due for some draft fortune, right?

Huge Loss

That Mini loss is going to make a big difference in ping pong balls! Count on it! The next 8 games are brutal. Can we please, pretty please, pretty please, now play everybody under 25 for 30+ minutes a game?

We're finally back in sole possession of 9th! This was one of those games that was a real test, and I'm very excited that we have managed to build enough momentum to pull this lin off, despite the Timberwolves being on the 2nd night of a back-to-back, and their not having wost a single one of their last 12 road games. But they sure wost tonight!

Memphis and Boston are hopelessly out of reach, but we are quickly gaining on teams like Portland and Seattle, even most of the dregs of the East are now within possible striking distance! Atlanta, Philly, Charlotte, Milwaukee, watch your backs, here we come!

GO PINGS!!! :D

For a moment there I was REALLY worried that we would get the W against Mini but then I was reminded how much we can suck when we want to so all its good ATM :)

Now all we need to do is sting a few Ls together and we are a silly chance of getting a top 4 pick.

Milwaukee is tanking hard, and announced today that Bogut and Villanueva are likly done for the year.

Portland and Seattle are catchable, but neither has that easy of a schedule left. ATL actually has quite a light batch of teams left, and could slide down to where we are in the lottery ranks relatively easy. Philly and Charlotte have both been playing well lately, and with a bit of luck and major tankage on our part, we could end up somewhere between 5-9.

ok, this means war!!

How will we fight back?

Here is my "plan of attack"

After we (probably) lose these 2 games against Phoenix, take Brad and Kenny out for the season. If anyone else in our rotation gets injured, keep them out for a while also. Give Ron some time off. If we can do that stuff, hopefully our schedule will take care of the rest.

Anyone else with ideas?

Wow... strange thought. For years and years, it has seemed like the Sacramento Kings were under a total curse -- at the worst possible times, one or more key players, inevitably, would be out injured.

2007: Held back by our lack of injuries, we put half of our starters into a month of full-time physical therapy for Athlete's Foot.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but it's hard to get used to.

I doubt that KT will be out long, he's barely injured. Besides, would we lose more games with him out, or in? Brad may be out a while, or play reduced minutes, but that may not change outcomes very often. To completely tank the team, you'd have to take out two of the other three starters. Artest, Martin and Bibby have been (in that order) our most productive players. Remove two of them, and we'll be scaring the bejesus out of Boston and Memphis. But that's really far-fetched, the most we could hope for, I think, would be for Ron to be out a couple of weeks over legal stuff, and even that seems pretty unlikely.

I guess the bright side is that we couldn't suck any worse if we tried. We stunk on the first nights of back-to-backs, and on the second nights. We stunk when rested on the road, we stunk when rested at home. We stunk against good teams, and against lottery teams. We are guaranteed to lin the next game, and the game after that.

I suppose we still have an ace up our sleeves if we need it. If Brad is out, there's always... Potapenko.

They still have Redd! There is always hope!:D

Look on the bright side. The Kings vets know the season is over. In many cases they know their careers with the Kings are over, at least they must seriously consider the possibility. The next few 8 games are brutal. They are going to get smashed. What kind of motivation do you think those vets will have to play all-out down the stretch? Personally, I think some are already starting to think about what fishing lures they need to buy for the offseason. I think Portland, Seattle, Charlotte and Atlanta all can have better records than the Kings. With the exception of Seattle, they are young teams, which typically will not pack it in like the veteran team, down the stretch. Hope springs eternal!

Ray Allen may call this season quits and "get surgery for bone spurs".

Methinks Seattle is trying to out-tank us.
