Watching the last game, it sure seemed like the team could have used Clark’s outside shooting and playmaking skills, Ogunbawle’s overall game and Reese’s interior presence.

Taurasi was a token pick, Gray missed a lot of games…….reminded me of the Women’s national team in soccer when they kept Rapinoe and Morgan, etc although hoops still got the Gold.

Completely dislike the coach for the team too.

USA fell behind because they committed, like, 16 turnovers in the first half. Clark definitely wasn't going to help them with that. Ogunbowale is a great player, but she absolutely would have been a poor fit: they already had three ball-dominant iso chuckers on the roster, and all three of them play better defense. And yeah, Reese definitely provides an inside presence, but she wouldn't have been any better than any of the players they already had in that role.

The backup guard they should have taken was Natasha Cloud.

I'm extremely critical of Rapinoe "going out her way" the last cycle but I have to admit the midfield is still an issue for the USWNT and finding her longterm replacement should now be top priority. Rapinoe could not service for crap last year and hurt the team taking free kicks and corners when she was on the pitch but the lack of an ascendant star(s) buys her some grace in hindsight here. Morgan being a poor fit with the other forwards and being a bit more of an off field star than greatest US player at her position ever was a much bigger indictment on Vlatko though. Still as much as I love Rodman and Smith, Mal Swanson was clearly the missing ingredient on that team and she was out due to injury.

Regardless I think both the USWNT and USAWBNT are in pretty good shape moving forward and the ladies who missed the cut this year are going to be great with 4 years of seasoning in 2028. Also like seriously, we'll get home cooking possibly? Hell yeah!
