Looks like PDA is staying (split)

Yeah, the reason is that Denver owner is a friggin idiot. Not only did he fire his HOFer coach, he fired his GM who promptly went to Toronto to be GM of the Year.

When Karl walks in a room, he's ego leads the way. That's why he was fired.

And losing in round 1 of the playoffs 9 of 10 years.

To the second point, yeah, he probably should have won more in the playoffs, but I wouldn't say that his recent Denver teams were built for a playoff series. They certainly overachieved in the regular season.

Of course, part of the reason they couldn't get anywhere in the playoffs is because George Karl helped run his star player out of town, leaving him with no go-to-guy in crunch time.

Well, because you don't need a star player to win games.

This suddenly makes the Vlade move and reorganization look pretty worrisome. Vivek likely wants to have two different "teams" within his front office fighting each other, for what reason, I cannot fathom. This is an ongoing pattern:

1. Team Malone (including Shareef) vs Team PDA-Mullin. PDA-Mullin wins, resulting in Malone being fired.

2. Team Mullin vs. Team Pete - Vivek wanted Mullin to coach right away; Mullin wanted to take over in the off-season; Pete wanted Karl right away. Mullin held his ground, apparently pissing off Vivek, who fired him and hired Karl.

3. (Now) Team Vlade vs. Team Pete. Both men wanted Karl, but Karl apparently has a better working relationship with Pete. Vlade (possibly) wanted Pete gone, but Karl stuck up for him. So in a week we go from "Pete is gone" to "New reorganization! Pete is here in a weird undefined position. Also Vlade may or may not want him gone." We are just setting the stage for another big blow-up in 6-12 months.

This has nothing to do with Malone, Pete, Vlade, Mullin, or Karl. This is 100% the result of Vivek Ranadive fostering a culture of in-fighting and bickering, with Vivek acting as the overseer who gets to pick and choose between fighting factions to make himself feel important.

Malone and Pete were doing okay together. If there was a serious personal beef between them, it is Vivek's job to *mend* those conflicts and make everyone play nice. It's natural if you throw a bunch of high-achieving Type A guys, each getting the biggest job of their young careers, to butt heads. The fact that Vivek not only encouraged fighting but rewarded it and now created more opportunities for conflicts is the biggest problem with this organization.

He is, without a doubt, one of the worst owners in the NBA.

Except Mullin wasn't fired. Sure, it's convenient that a position opened up at his alma mater right when he seemed to be falling out of favor in Sacramento, but I don't think Vivek is exactly calling the shots at St Johns

I know nothing about his ability to evaluate talent, but this is one area where I have 100% confidence in Vlade Divac.

as long as that idiot PDA doesn't call the shots, then I'm ok with him staying.

don't need to be calling the shots to poison the well. he just needs to plant seeds in karls head and start factioning again. i cant believe vivek considering keeping him along w the previous staff. smh

Who doesn't have an ego in the NBA? Whether a guy has an ego or not is immaterial. I want excellence. If the price of excellence is ego I'll gladly take another spoonful.
If you think building perennial first round losers is excellence, then we have found the king of kings in that regard.

which is exactly the route we all better hope doesn't happen here...running your star out of town for no apparent reason other than ego.

IF PDA stays, it would only be as the numbers guy, I think.

From all the news, Vlade is the decision maker now.

I am okay with PDA staying, so long as Vlade has the FINAL say in ALL personnel matters.

if Karl thinks he is outsmarting everyone here by being "open" to trading a franchise big man....he is more naive than I thought. These aren't thoughts I want about our brand new head coach who has yet to coach for a full season...but all ready the things he says are irking me and leading me to believe each and every day that this team won't have number 15 for next season.

Be careful what you wish for. You don't want to root for a treadmill team do you?
Treadmill team, huh? Actually, this is kind of what it's like being a Kings fan now.

Trade Boogie, then he'll see what adversity really is.

This Boogie trade thing is over the top, based on weak innuendo at best. We've got a very good coach. We just need a very good GM. Without that, you can put an amalgam of Pat Reilly, Jackson, Sloan, Popovitch and Karl at coach and we get nowhere. The problem is that there is a void at the GM position. That void is going to be filled by one or more people in the organization who vie for influencing the decisions typically made by a strong GM, which is a terrible organizational structure and will produce terrible decisions. We need a strong GM. NOW. Vlade should know the Eastwood maxim: A man's got to know his limitations. Vlade can't be GM. Vlade has to do the research to find a great GM, hire him, and support him, for this organization to have any chance at success going forward.
