I dont see why we would want any of those 2009 guys as they are all older players, with price tags we wont want to pay. Plus, their age makes them pointless in our plans to build this team back up with youth.

Some noteable 2009 FA's who could be of use: Mehmet Okur, Hedo Turkoglu, Trevor Ariza, Ben Gordon...although okur and hedo are both 29, so i wouildnt want them for much money.

I honestly dont see us really spending much, if any this offseason. Maybe if we do spend itd be to possibly resign a guy like diogu or maybe mccants depending on how they show for the remainder of the season.

As for 2010, Tyson chandler and tj ford looks to be most appealing due to their age and pretty solid D down low. Plus, I dont see us landing a huge star in 2010 anyways.

Sessions!! 2009

I left him out because I wasnt sure if Iggy was just referring to unrestricted free agents. But if were talking restricted, then yeah throw in sessions, milsap, lee, felton.

Haha also, we have a thread dedicated to sessions, so i didnt want to beat a dead horse by throwing him in. Sessions might be the most popular non-kings player on kingsfan.com haha

The obvious. Save money and tank next season while developing the young picks and go for the class of 2010-11 FA's.

Some other players that might be worth some attention are Mike Conley and Charlie Villenueva... I believe Charlie is restricted but if the Bucks resign Sessions they might dump Charlie. Im not sure about Mike, but i wouldn't be oppossed to picking him up because the guy still has huge potential in my opinion.

With the recent dump, it looks like GP is going for 2009. Of course the 2010 list is better, that is why every other team is shooting for it. The Kings will never be a major player in 2010. The 2009 pool is not all that bad, considering the Kings will most likely take from higher on the list.

2009 - Mike Bibby, Carlos Boozer, Allen Iverson, Ron Artest, Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion, Andre Miller, Lamar Odom and Rasheed Wallace

Wow. Talk about being underwhelmed... NONE of those are franchise-saving players, IMHO. I wouldn't be surprised at all, looking at that list of players, to see Petrie focus on staying high in the lottery stakes for one more year and then going for 2010 with both free agency and draft picks to work with.

The thing is that even though the Kings now have cap space for 09, they probably won't want to use it. They are losing millions of dollars and the economy is only going to get much worse before it gets better. The might just save the $ for the most part period.

If the rumors of the Maloofs losing hundreds of millions in the Madoff ponzi, then I can really see they trying to save every penny possible.

It's a partial list.

Are there better players not shown?

Regardless, Petrie has maintained for like forever that 2010 is the target date. I can see why... And with the kids on the court, we'll be back to an entertaining form of basketball, win or lose.

I believe conley is under contract with memphis until 2011, but I agree, he has shown a lot of promise lately. I think many have been quick to tear him down, but forget this is only his soph year, and he has shown some good potential only being a 2nd yr PG. But memphis just traded kyle lowry, so I wouldnt think conley is going to be dealt anytime soon.

I really think we will probably just draft a PG in the lottery next season, or use K9's contract to trade for a PG this summer. I dont see us going out of our way to sign sessions, and there really arent any other worth while PG's this offseason. Outside of Milsap id say there really arent any young FA's this summer worth handing a decent amount of cash. Maybe ariza, but we'd be just overstacking that position on our team.

I would love to have Hedo back, but other teams are sure to outbid us. Otherwise, from this list and the previous from the first post - I don't see anyone worth giving up the kitchen sink for.

Ariza would be nice off the bench... but not with Martin, Cisco, Greene and Noc already.

Gordon - No thanks.

Decide for yourself. Updated yesterday. I think his list is relatively complete although there could be a couple he excluded that GP could be high on.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=FreeAgents-09-10

I like Boozer. There is also some decent veteran presence on that list that may go for cheap. The Kings will clearly lack any veteran presence for all the youngins.

I just took the time to update Iggy's OP... It doesn't, of course, include any of the trades made today...

I would not mind adding Ben Gordon and Blake Griffin to the roster. Now that could be a day and night change from this season to the next.

5.Hawes/tbd/Thompson
4.Thompson/Griffin (to start with)
3.Nocioni/Greene (to start with)
2.Martin/Garcia
1.Gordon/Beno

Yeah, looking at that complete list, Hedo is the only name that stands out. Okur maybe.

Hakim Warrick is also intriguing.

GP was reported to covet Hedo, but the problem is he just traded for an overpaid SF in Noc, so getting Hedo isn't going to happen unless a sign-and-trade deal can be worked out.

As for the Boozer supporters, he's an aging, injured PF who wants a raise when he's already making over 12 mil a year. With the cap probably lowering soon, making that move and paying him 13+ a year isn't going to send this team into the playoffs. Boozer isn't the answer. I think the way to go is to pursue guys coming off their rookie deals and are on the way up instead of on the way down.

Ben Gordon at PG? Are you serious?

Given the cap situation and huge number of roster spots and barring a S&T or something involving KT's expiring, I think the MO next year is going to have to be "grab a bunch of random young players and see who sticks."

And to that end, aside from McCants, Diogu and Simmons, here are some random young players I wouldn't mind pulling off the scrap heap to see what they've got:

Marcin Gortat - 24 year old 6'11" Polish big man with an intriguing combination of skills and athleticism. Bonus: nicknamed the Polish Hammer
Rodney Carney - really athletic, used to be able to shoot, currently lost in the shuffle in Minnesota
Zaza Pachulia - surprisingly decent center in Atlanta, and would you believe he's only 25?
Shavlik Randolph - Perennially lost in the shuffle, but played decently when he's had time.
Jason Hart - Just kidding.

If we actually have cap room, free agents are not the only possibility. Cap room means a team can actually take back more salary in a trade (including sign and trades) than they send out.

I agree, Iggy, and was actually talking with Kingsgurl about it today... Draft a "Jason Williams," get a "Vlade Divac" to come to us in free agency, and then make a blockbuster trade for a "Chris Webber."

ah, to dream the impossible dream...

;)

Resigning drew gooden might be a good move if its not too expensive. He would be a great back up to JT and Spencer, That would be a lot of energy and rebounding coming off the bench.
