Lakers on Tyreke

ZZ-TOP

G-League
Quote:
“He showed a lot of capabilities against a strong defensive player like Ron,” Jackson said of Evans during his postgame comments outside the Lakers’ locker room. “(Artest is) a power player, where Evans is more of a finesse player than a point guard.” (It is red!)

Who is this Phil Jackson fellow? He is clueless.

Sorry if this was already discussed somewhere else.:o

The emphasis was on the fact that Artest is a power player and Evans is a finesse player, which I personally think is a load of what Brandon Jennings claimed to smell.

If this is just going to be a rehash of the old saw about the "point guard" label, let me know and I'll close it now, saving us all a lot of time.

Ummm Tyreke Evans isn't a power player?? So he doesn't bang with the biggest people inside and get very good rebounding numbers for a POINT GUARD?

He isn't a "physical" mismatch for everyone he goes up against. He doesn't "muscle" people around? Kobe didn't say "He's a grown *** man", because of his physique??

Hmm....I think Phil is losing it.

No, I think this is typical Phil Jackson. He's good at choosing his words. He likes to give backhanded compliments. Sort of like slapping you across the face and still trying to make you feel good about it by calling it an affectionite slap.

Yeah, I don't know what Phil was talking about. But what Artest and Kobe said about Tyreke shows that he's left an indelible impression on them.

Well Reke did finesse Artest right out of his power Nikes. I'm sure he still has that impression burned on his corneas. :D

"You see, Red Auerbach was a true hall of fame coach, to where Phil Jackson is more of a coattail riding douchebag."

Ive got a nice thick coupon catalog for anyone that can get me phil jacksons home address. Seriously though, im pretty sure Evans tries to physically punish point guards every game. If anything Evans is a combination of power and finesse.

Phil isn't even really good at these backhanded compliments any more. He admits putting Artest on Evans to guard him. If he is so "finesse", then why wasn't Fisher guarding him?

I actually agree with Phil Jackson (kills self). With the precondition that Tyreke is not a pg, which he states in the quote, then he is a finesse player when matched to other sgs. Dont get me wrong, Tyreke is BOTH (which is the only thing Phil has slighted him on), but power players are traditionally reserved for those who need brute strength to score. Evans scores with his footwork, then his strength. I don't see him bullying other sg's in the post, just getting past them from the top of the key. If I could only choose one attribute it would finesse over power.

ah phil..... is the senility sinking in?:D

Nah, he's always done this. Its got nothing to do with anything other than mindgames/**** talking. People trying to search for meaning in this sort of comment, trying to say oh, he's partially right, or this is what he meant, or anything like that, are just playing into his hands. He's laughing at you right now. Even he doesn't believe it. That's not the point. In a lot of ways its a sign of respect -- he doesn't try to screw with anybody's head who he doesn't see as a threat. How many of this style of Phil quote have we heard in all the down years since the golden era? Not oen I can recall. Why? Because we weren't worthy of notice. Reke is, we might be in the future, so out comes Phil's little knives and digs. Its tiresome, but predictable.

I don’t’ care what people call Tyreke (PG, SG, F, PF, C..lol), I’m just glad we have him on our team :D

here's another question.

why the **** are we analyzing what Phil Jackson says? I don't give a **** about Colonel Sanders

see, if they made be beat writer, my first question would be "Have you figured out how to defend a pick n roll yet? Are you planning to?"

and as follow up

"Andrew Bynum had a real nice game, can you tell me, has Larry Brown returned your credibility yet?"

very true....

I actually love that about him :)

He delights in stirring the pot, and the world is a whole lot more interesting for it :)

And the fact that he is subconciously starting to view the kings worthy of a little pot stirring again... well, the kings are moving in the right direction!

oops! beat me to the punch!

but yeah... same idea, and well put :)

why is everyone so against Finesse players? lol

Tim Duncan = finesse

Tyreke is more of a finesse player , I would agree with that assessment because most of his moves aren't overpowering..they're more technical and well timed like the spin on Artest or his game winning layups v. I believe the clips.

I prefer to call him "star" instead of finesse. :p

He is..but why are playing looking at the term finesse player negatively...if anything else finesse players last longer(body wise), get injured less), and adapt their games more instead of just trying to overpowered/use their athleticism..

Like I said, I think Phil was trying to say he's a star guard (which can play any guard position and capable of more) without saying it.

Well at least that is how my mind processed it. ;)

Tyreke is not a finesse player. He is very overpowering at his position. And it's not that there's any negative connotation to the word, especially after looking it up. It gets misused a lot, I think. It's just incorrect to describe Tyreke Evans as a finesse player.

Stop it!

I mean everybody. Stop trying to agree with Phil. Stop trying to look for kernels of truth from Phil. Stop even vociferously disagreeing with Phil. Its all just B.S. Nothing more, nothing less. A load of intentionally constructed hooey from the hooey master himself. The intention? To cause dissent and twist the debate.

This is how this will go peeps, and if you don't believe me put your money on the table right now -- I need a new car anyway. Next season:

"he's a tough cover for a truer PG with the way the refs allow him to dislodge guys in the post"

"he's got that good dribble drive game, and Ron sometimes has problems with guys like that who carry the ball all the time"

"yeah, you know, when guys like that get all that hype the refs will let them get away with little things"

"he's very clever on defense knowing how to foul guys and get away with it. He hit Kobe on the arm and knocked the ball away four times last game while guarding him, but knew how to do it wihtout getting whistled.

"yeah, even if there's other guys who maybe deserve it more I think its good for Sacramento if the league lets him onto the All Star team. Sometimes those smaller cities don't really have anything else going on, so its good for them."

"what's good for the goose is good for the gander, they say. Sometimes the league just gives these young guys so many advanatges early to let them establish themselves, and you just have to fight through it"

"well, I don't really know if you can call a player without a jumpshot skilled, but he's pretty good with the dribble and understands that the refs are going to give him some leeway with the palming and stuff"
